New EJ Video - Firam Palace Introduction

comment=25851
Wow! Thanks for all of the feedback edchuy! I'm going to try to reply to some of those:

-By lamps on the floor, do you mean the white vases? Those are just for decoration. They seemed to fit the chipset well. *shrug*

-What would you suggest for the fountain? I tend to try to keep effects (like lighting etc) to a minimum. I've always found stuff like that distracting in rm games.

-In regards to the facesets, the majority have been customized for EJ. I think roco designed that style originally (with blue backgrounds), and there were a lot of generic ones I could use as a base for each new face I wanted, where I simply modified hair colors etc and added clothes to each to match their charsets. With the soldiers I was going for kind of a neutral expression. I'll probably go through some of the facesets at some point and make some tweaks. With Jargon, I don't think roco ever designed faces for the people2 chipset, so I designed that whole faceset via the method I metioned. Sueto is custom as well.

-The hippies Sueto was referring to is actually supposed to be his parents (hence why he grew up with long hair). I rewrote some of that dialogue that kind of explained that originally to trim down the flashback sequence. I'll look at the dialogue again and see if I can slip something about that in there. He also grew up in Flogle.

-Ooh thanks for catching that spelling error. Upmost/utmost is one of those phonetic things that I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Feel free to check out some of my other youtube videos if you haven't already!!

Here's a few clarifications regarding your reply:

I didn't realize those were vases. I thought to myself, since those are lamps, shouldn't they be on a table? I guess since they don't have flowers or something to distinguish them, similar to the pots of plants next to them, you can understand my confusion.

What I seem to have forgotten to type about the fountain was the sound effect of falling water. Although, you would only have it when standing close to the fountain. I don't know if this can be realistically done, but it would make sense.

Yeah, your facesets are somewhat familiar but definite mods of the standard RTP ones in one way or another.

Now that you mention it, Sueto's parents being hippies would explain why he grew up with the flobos in Flogle.

Yeah, English is a tricky language! Don't worry, spelling and sometimes grammar mistakes seem to plague games to some extent, here in RMN. Try to do your best, though.

Regarding text speed, now that it has been mentioned, I don't mind as long as it's not too slow. It helps that you don't have text that produces a sound effect as it appears. I guess your game will have text that you need to press action to move forward to next dialogue ... What's really annoying as well is when dialogue autoscrolls too quickly for one to read.

I'll make sure to take a look at the others videos as well once I'm done with my project.

I posted my feedback in PepsiOtaku's blog for Everlasting Journey after watching it.

New EJ Video - Firam Palace Introduction

I have watched your video. Here is my feedback, mostly comments about what I saw:

- Nice floor tiles for the palace.
- What's the deal with the lamps on the floor?
- Nice fountain animation. Too bad you didn't include a little of effect for it.
- I noticed the guards have slanted mouths.
- Nice detail of adding glasses to King Jargon. Otherwise he would a RTP Rip.
- I find it amazing that Floo is the most fluent speaker of the party. He sticks out his tongue while talking though, doesn't he?
- Nice snout you put on Prince Elium (you must have left out the H from his name on purpose!).
- All the King's people are so nice, not!
- I guess the party was guilty by association.
- Nice background music for the dungeon.
- Having to share the bucket with Floo must be fun!
- You have some nice, expressive facesets for Sparrow, Floo and Phillip.
- Also, the faceset you used for Sueto is unfamiliar to me.
- Why does the evil king often live in a desert?
- I like your miniature part of the city of Hiram kingdom.
- I guess Sueto called the Flobos hippies. Yet somehow his hair is now short at the back ...
- I noticed how he didn't mention how he ended up living in Flogle.
- You have a couple of typing mistakes here and there in your video's dialogue. Also, you seem to have confused utmost with upmost (consider that a freebie!).
- I guess Sueto is suffering from Stockholm syndrome, even though he's not quite a hostage
- You cut the video in the right spot, making me curious what would happen next.

I watched Lance VII's Chrono Echoes video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqlBFV3rA_A&feature=player_embedded ) and posted feedback in the blog where he mentioned it.

I also found out Skie Fortress' video has been taken removed. I PM her to find out whether I should still be considered for this project or not. In the meantime, I'm downloading PepsiOtaku's video for Everlasting Journey (http://www.youtube.com/v/e4nI8PwzTpo ).

In case you are wondering why I say I download videos, it is because that's what I am actually doing. I can then watch the video in an external viewer (VLC). If I find speeds of things occurring are too quickly for me to see the details, I can slow down things. I can also watch it as many times as I need to (my internet connection is kind of slow so reloading the video takes longer than I care for!).

Thanks for the feedback edchuy. It's much appreciated and I'll definitely use it to make ED better.

You're welcome. That is the idea, I hope. I was starting to wonder whether you noticed it. Good luck on getting the game forward!

New video.

I watched your video release for RS! X. Here's my feedback, mostly comments:

- How come you don't have the caterpillar in the Overworld map?
- Overworld map seems to have some interesting details.
- So battles will not involve random encounters.
- The video must be of early in the game, since the damage your characters get is minimal. I would think you need to balance the battles a lit bit better.
- I guess the class of the party members will affect what techs they'll get. I wonder if the titles will change as the game progresses ...
- Good thing you have the option of active or passive ATB.
- The trees seem to conveniently lump in bunches to create the paths to walk on. In the forest, I noticed you have alternate pathways, dead ends, bushes and rocks.
- No treasure chests in the forest?
- Leaving forest leads directly to some kind of building. I thought I saw there was some grass in front of the entrance of the building in the World map. I guess it must be a side entrance your party entered through.

I watched Ephiam's video of Eternal Paradise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7OENi0PR30&feature=player_embedded ) and posted feedback in the corresponding blog of the game.

RS! Day X Video for Eternal Paradise.

I have taken a look at your video. I'm haven't played the demo for the game just yet. Here's my feedback, mostly comments, about what I saw on the video:

- From the beginning of the video, I got the impression the game doesn't have random encounters, right?
- I would guess you made the sprites are a little blurry and the background hard to see on purpose
- The wind seems to make their hair, tails and clothes move.
- That's some nerve-wracking background battle music!
- How come the order in which we see the characters in the screen not the same as in the status screen?
- I do hope you have the choice to have either active or passive ATB.
- Nice, you have magical attacks that also cause multiple status ailments.
- The animation for Flaming Divide seems flawed: it looks as if it requires 2 moves before the hit and the fire, by the time you hit the enemy is nowhere to be seen.
- You seem to have some attacks that target some particular parts of the body.
- When the characters defend, they really shield themselves ... I guess you like to show oversized gear.
- In the video, it doesn't look like you used any items in the battle. Makes sense that the actual battle would be much harder, take longer and actually require the use of items.

I looked at VideoWizard's new map (http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/49/locker/DKBoaL_South_Lakel_Island_map3.png ) and posted feedback in the blog of gamepage where it was shown.

Mar-17-10 Release Something! X progress

If there's a word I can use to characterize what my appreciation of this large map is, it is inconsistency. It does feel as though you tried to put together different maps, so it seems to lack some continuity. This is my feedback based on my appreciation of what I'm seeing (correct me if I'm wrong):

For starters, the things that look most out of place to me are the two gray pieces of rock that are shaped like crab claws, mostly because you gave them, for the most part, a very defined black edge, at least for the top surface and gave their surface some defined details (are those cracks I'm seeing?) by using 3 shades of gray. The water that is running into right piece is the only detail marring the otherwise fine-looking pieces of rock.

In the other pieces of land that are elevated, most of which seem to have grass on top, you did not mark the top edge as clearly. In some cases the colors for those edges were inconsistent, with some black and gray mixed in. In the cases where you used a light color for the visible side edge, you used a slightly darker version of the same color. I suggest that you use darker tones of the same color to provide better contrast. Why, because some of the pieces of land that are above sea level don't feel that way.

Another detail that I agree with is how beaches blend into the sea or lake and the water levels gradually gets deeper as indicated by the darker tone of blue.

The other major detail that seems odd is the presence of an icy/snowy area right next to a beachy area/desert. That extreme would make sense if the icy/snowy where at a quite a high altitude, which doesn't feel to me it's the case.
