Have you ever played SaGa Frontier 2? There's a few chapters based around the character Gustav's apprenticeship as a blacksmith. They're very brief, mostly of his master teaching him how to forge a blade. There's an action chapter in which he goes to try out his new sword fighting slimes in a cave and ends up fighting some smugglers or something. I think that's probably all you need.

If you're going to make this the first 1/4 of your game, I suggest adding more bits than just apprenticeship scenes. Show us the character's life outside of this.

I don't mean to nitpick but you're very quick to turn to the forums with multiple topics about the game you're working on. I suggest putting some hours into the game first, then sticking to one topic and posting when you really hit a stumbling block. I encourage you to try finding a solution or seeing what works on your own and then hitting up the community when you really need help or refinement tips.

All of the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games are available now. I recommend all of them, but speaking objectively, SMT Nocturne and Persona 3 are the ones to play. I like the Raidou duology a lot, but they're both very clunky.

PCEngine (Hu-Card): Makai Hakkenden Shada
This was a short action RPG from Data East that borrowed liberally from Falcom's Ys I & II. Based on the 19th century serial novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden by Takizawa, it's set in the Sengoku period and you play as a samurai. I don't know that much about the game's plot. The game itself isn't very original, borrowing its engine and many of its puzzles from Ys. But it has some very neat bosses, like a giant frog you attack by walking right up into its open mouth. It also has surprisingly good music.

If you continue with the thieves guild quests, you'll get to redeem yourself.
That's great about joining the rebellion, though! I steered clear because I was afraid of what it would affect. I might have to go back and pick a side.

WE EXPECT A FULL REPORT, AGENT. Lucky you, though. That's incredible! I was hoping to get over this year myself, but I've got to attend a wedding in New Zealand which has eaten up my trip funds for the foreseeable future.


I'd like to see another Persona game with adult protagonists, but I think the high school formula is too successful for them to change it now. :\ I'm finding it a little tired, personally, as I have no desire to return to high school time and time again. But nonetheless I am excited to see how P5 turns out.
