I am CashmereCat now.

Twisted baubles replace my brain and I am toxic yet nice. There's a lot to me, but also not a lot going on up there, they say. PM me because I love attention, I do interviews, I do reviews, I do stuff. Here for the long haul. Gotta hustle.
I'm working on whatever I'm working on, and I love RPG Maker games that aren't traditional RPGs. Puzzlers, interactive stories, but nothing too abstract that'll weird me out. Just give me a polished gem and I'll stare at it for days, marveling at the way the light reflects just right, inner inflections, potato top pie.
I want to make games with you.

The 2013 "Official" Misao Predictions and Discussion Thread
Pom Gets Wi-Fi getting a lot of nominations this year. Even though I like that game, it better not sweep the Misaos due to its immense popularity. Tons of other games deserve it more.
Here's to the underdogs!

The 2013 "Official" Misao Predictions and Discussion Thread
Part of the purpose of this thread was to prevent people from voting on the only game they played. Hopefully this thread has opened people's minds. Then it will have achieved its purpose.
Thanks for all of your participation in this thread. I will make another one next year, judging by this thread's success.

Game Chill 2013
Turns out I'm going with the simpler concept of the two and things are turning out great. Should have a fun, attention-diverting game playable by the due date! Woo!

Game Chill 2013
I haven't started even though I planned to by now. Things are going to get pretty simple with my game now.
Heores in a half shell
This sounds really good, kentona. Things are actually looking a lot like Fallout, funnily enough. Postapocalyptic setting, out-of-battle skills, fairly open world... but I imagine it'll have a more lighter feel of humour to it. Bit more random.
Are there going to be mini-games for out-of-battle skills? Kind of like lockpicking in Skyrim/Fallout/Oblivion/Any Bethesda Game? I imagine so, since skills like "persuade" probably will include choosing the right dialogue option or something.
I have only a vague idea of what your story is about, but thinking about mini-quests, here's some random ones I could think of:
Um yeah. And for the arcology thing, is that the TV Tropes definition of Arcology (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Arcology) so it's like a huge mega city thing? Because if that's the case why does the Big Bad live in a huge self-serving machine city?
Thanks :)

- Retrieve grandma's precious metal shard from ancient burial site, which is actually now a thief outpost.
- Rescue friendly campervan community from bully religious radicals and their sacrificial rituals.
- Travel to an abandoned school with unfriendly traders and try to get them to pay their bills. If they don't you call the police for instant reinforcements.

How to add fun to grinding?
Wikipedia says grinding is "a term used to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games". Usually it means a character repeatedly killing AI-controlled monsters using the same strategy over and over to advance their character level and access new content.
Ah fooey, you're one type of player. Other players find grinding fun. Like me, sometimes. Sometimes you want to do the same thing over and over again because it feels nice to have a pattern. It becomes more tolerable when the repetitive action requires skill to get right, and if you do it a little bit wrong, then you get a little punishment. Which means that the more you do it, the better you get at it. That's when I believe grinding is most fun.
It's like lifting weights. You're lifting the same weights over and over again, and it feels like a "grind". But you know that the more weights you lift, the more you get stronger. So even if you don't like lifting weights at the time, you'll endure the short-term pain for the long-term gain. Sometimes players derive pleasure from knowing the fact that most people will not endure the same short-term pain of grinding for long-term gain, and will take satisfaction in that.
To put things short, I don't think grinding should be a source of short-term "fun" but rather a sense of achievement and satisfaction at the end of it. So I believe that the real question you should ask, is not how do I make grinding fun, but how do I make grinding rewarding.
In that case I, as the developer, would make sure that:
In that sense, grinding will become rewarding, and the fun will be in the satisfaction that you have earned after grinding, not whilst it is happening.

You don't add fun to grinding. You remove grinding in order to add fun. The two are mutually exclusive.

In that case I, as the developer, would make sure that:
- The player knows what grinding will achieve before they start grinding
- The player has at least some visual/instinctive idea that while they are grinding they are getting better
- That the grinding will be filled with cycles of hard boring work, and a sense of reward after
In that sense, grinding will become rewarding, and the fun will be in the satisfaction that you have earned after grinding, not whilst it is happening.
Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
My Game Chill 2013 entry is yet to get off the ground, unlike Marrend's. I hope I haven't overshot the mark ambition-wise, otherwise I'm going to go with the non-linear dodgefest idea. For now I'm going with the Motherload/FATE hybrid idea. Which sounds horrible and it probably is.
:Secret Santa Liberty Plays: Calling it - Death Incoming~
Hey, this is a really cool playthrough. I think Jomar told me whilst I was proofreading his game that the reason why the girl isn't ecstatic that school is suspended is because it has to be resumed after a few months, which means classes will eat into their summer holidays or something.
Your voice work is also astounding. But I agree, you should get a better mic.
