Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

Oh, no, gil is pretty well balanced, especially with all the adventurer guild quests giving plenty of it. I just wanted to see how other people deal with it, whether their solution is "only equip a core party of 4/5/6" or "rotate party members" or whatnot. I didn't think to sell elixirs, though, which should alleviate that. I just got to Aquaria.

I'm pretty bad about sticking to one group and maybe swapping one or two people out on pretty much every rpg I play with big parties. If I want to try other characters, I typically play through a game multiple times rather than spending time grinding to level and gear everyone (not that leveling is an issue here either). That being said, I didn't feel like I had a lot of problems with gil when keeping up with sidequests and stuff. Plus, I fully explored every dungeon to get all of the items available before leaving.

My first play through, I mostly used Karina, Elysia, Aeth (me! such vanity etc.), and Dag or Cass, but I'm trying to swap people around a bit more this time. This time I've been using Level and Miko a lot more.
So I came around to this relatively late but registered just to point out a rather gamebreaking problem. I downloaded 1.4 which is listed to be the latest and barely 20 minutes into the game I am met with a game crashing error. I enter the western forest and walk left and up to where I need to save someone. We charge to the enemies and just after I do so the game crashes with the following error:

Script "krosk error" line 89: NameError occurred.

uninitialized constant Audio::UTFSEXT

So how does one go about that?

Edit: Just noticed the news. Apparently this is already known. Don't mind me I had a long day. When I downloaded the game the other day I used 7zip and that apparently left those filenames as gibberish.

Fancy game by the way.
Ack, sorry about that! Thank you for registering to report the bug. Glad you saw the post and got it sorted out.

Thank you, I hope you enjoy the game!
There are some bugs with Genji Glove dual-wielding.
1. When FIRST attack kills enemy sometimes enemy sprite don't disappear. Last Boss don't play his special death animation too.
2. When first attack kills enemy in auto-combat mode, second attack choose new target and attack it. Bug or exploit?

Also in auto-mode when one enemy are petrified (Stoneblade, etc) all characters continue auto-attack it for 0 damage ( Sometimes petrifying enemies freezes combat completly (battle aftermath screen don't appear)

P.S. Thank you for game very much! Lots and lots of joy.
P.P.S. Sorry for my (maybe) poor english. AYBABTU!

The new version should have a description. You can always look up to the Wiki for details about abilities (although the information is extremely minimal).
Thanks Noel. You have really been working on the wiki,i will read it.
Im not sure that i have the latest version.Gonna take a look on it.

There should be a patch up with all the latest stuff except for the return fix. Just download patch 1.4, and extract in the file that has your game.

I suggest adding a script which will display version number somewhere on the title screen. That way people will know which version they have.
@ElZero: The dual wield issues are known, and have proven to be extremely difficult to fix. The current behavior is in place so that characters don't do bizarre things like hit themselves. That said, I have changed the final boss at least so that it will always display its death animation. The same thing applies to the auto-battle thing, since auto battle behaves differently.

Basically, I did not like how RPGMaker did dual wield, so I rewrote it to behave more like Final Fantasy (where you hit with each weapon's stats rather than just combined). Unfortunately the default action system didn't like that, so I had to rewrite some stuff there too. Because of that the odd issue remains like collapse animations not playing sometimes. I will however make sure that all bosses do collapse properly. Thanks for the heads up!

Petrify should have been fixed in one of the recent patches. If it's not, I probably just forgot to include it, so I will in the next patch.

I am glad you enjoyed the game, though! Thanks for the reports!
I loved the quests of the game. I'm picking to address some more therein lies the grace - the challenge! Let's see if I can close this game with 100% success.

Good week to all!

In time, I'm not reading other threads posted here to avoid seeing spoilers of the game.
@JoeFatherBr I am glad you are finding the game fun and challenging! So far everyone has been pretty good about hiding their spoilers, I will be sure that continues so nothing is ruined for you. =)

To everyone else, I am changing how we do patches. Instead of a page full of patch links, there will be a single link that will be continuously updated. I think this will resolve a lot of confusion. The old links will all be phased out over time until there is just the game download and the latest patch download.

That said, the latest patch has been updated to 1.41. This fixes issues with bosses not showing collapse animations, and issues with autobattle. It also adds a autobattle toggle button, so you don't need to go into the pause menu every time you wish to turn it on.

Very grateful for the information.

However, a doubt: by downloading this update I can keep save files I already have the game?

Big hug.

Hello.
Can anyone help me?I dont get the songs in
Squeenix castle right.Sad,happy....
Basically, you want to play them a song that goes with their mood. It's a bit confusing, so here's the answers:

Maid Upstairs - Soothing
Woman by the pot - Happy
Chef - Sad
Girl in the library - Happy
I remember there being one more song you will need to play

Boy in the garden - Soothing

Their moods indicate what you need to play, you need to play the opposite.

Actually, I think that playing Upbeat/Happy song to that garden boy is the correct way since we get a sound effect on that unlike on other options, or is it an eventing error?
Thanks.
I didnĀ“t see the boy in the garden, thats why i got so much trouble.
And i played a soothing but you have right about the soundeffecT Noel_Kreiss
