AEROFUNK80'S PROFILE

There are two things I love: video games and writing. I've enjoyed writing stories since I was very young, and I'm an 80/90's kid, so my childhood was Atari, NES and SNES. I wanted to go to school for video game design, but that's not where life took me. When I discovered RPG Maker, it allowed me to take my two passions and fuse them together. I absolutely love creating fantasy worlds, writing the lore and developing characters. I do lack the artistic creativity and plugin knowledge, but I like to think I make up for that in storytelling. I love the old school RPG's where they gripped us with great stories: Final Fantasy 2&3, Chrono Trigger, Lufia and Secret of Mana to name a few. Tales of Yuria is my way to tell the first chapter of the world I've been creating for years.

An RPG Maker game where your character's look changes?! I'm sold! Just subbed and can't wait to play. Mapping looks great. :-)

Escalia

I'm enjoying this quite a bit so far. :-) Just got to the cave under the church. I found a few spelling errors:

-During the encounter in the forest with Maximillian, he says, "It's a bind spel!" You only have one 'l' in "spell."
-For the description of the Ruby Necklace accessory, you spell "skill" with 3 'l's

Overall, like it a lot so far:

-Love the small details. Like in the menu screen, when you select the character, their mouth's open. Really creative.
-Oh, and about that menu screen. LOVE IT!
-Really like Lumia's Shadow Dance animation.

So far so good :-) Great job on this!

Hi everybody,
I esperienced the same crashes on Windows 7, and have to update to W10 (for french users "https://www.01net.com/astuces/comment-mettre-a-niveau-windows-7-vers-windows-10-gratuitement-1617609.html"). Adjusting game proprieties on Windows 8 compatibility, Reduced Color Mode and Full Screen Optimisation Desctivated reduced the crash problemes to near nil.
I hope that may help...

Thanks Old_Timer for sharing this! Hopefully this helps others experiencing the same problem. Also-thanks for playing :-) Enjoy the game!

I am loving this so far. Interesting story, amazing music and you really set the tone with the mapping and sound effects. Love how you did combat, too. Very creative.

However, I think I may have found a bug. I've pressed every button and cannot seem to get out or go back. Let me know if I'm missing something. Here's what happened:

1) I select item and choose the Pencil.
2) Target the rat and attack.
3) I then have the option for "Help" or "Stall"
4) I select "Help" and Baiulus comes up. Nothing to select.

There's no option to do anything, and ESC won't let me return to the previous window. I'm just stuck under the "Help" window. I put a screenshot below:

Going to restart the game and try again.

GREAT JOB!

Yep. Grugg's Lair. I'm enjoying it greatly so far. Didn't know battles are suppose to be challanging, I was playing like I could go and clean house (dungeon) in 1 run. Not a bad thing, just, the game is so cheery I wasn't expecting Dark Souls. Haha. My new solution was a classic dungeon crawling technique. Fight, Heal, deplete mana, run back to inn. save. repeat. The war of attrition has begun.

Dark Souls? Man... I didn't know my battles were that difficult. You have played Dark Souls before... right? :-P LOL I feel like we get each other here and can joke like this... what? Too soon? :-) But yeah, I can see your point. Really upbeat and cheery game, and then wolves want to bite your face off. Have you murdered a rabbit yet? That's when this game goes REALLY dark........

Real Talk, here's how last night went:
"Before entering into Grug's lair. I'm dead broke, 0 gold and no welfare check til tuesday, Shopkeepers got neat-o armor and weapons, but I'm looking at them like an asthmatic who just dropped his inhaler down a sewer drain. Try to show him my junk... he says he's not a pawn shop, he ain't buying. Tells me to get a job. What, in this economy? So now, I'm like Indian Jones up in this cave, I HATE SNAKES. Snakes looking at me like I owe them child support. These school yard bullies are laughing at my toddler-sized arms. But there ain't no gym I can go to. Can't get on my grind. And I think Tia might be allergic to snake venom, huh. 4 simultaneous bites from one the group of snakes on her face and she's in bed with a case of the deads. Either sexism or RNG gods have forsaken me. Two words a party never wants to hear, "Healer's dead." That's it, you have no idea who your messing with snakes, I am an imortal, toddler-armed snake-genocidist. Wander, treasure, kill 1 snake group, Inn, save. Always save."

I may need to recruit you to help write some dialogue for my characters. This was hilarious :-) And yes... always save. I didn't think that part through, but fear not, I got to the point I started putting campfires in places campfires don't usually go. Immediately regretting I didn't put hotdogs and marshmallows on the vendors, but based on Tyrfall Forest's current economy... probably couldn't afford them anyway.

Also, the long intro was hilarious. Legit enjoyed.
I'll let you know what I think of Grugg. He better not secretly be a giant snake.

No, but now I'm wishing I made him one... that would have been a nice twist :-) Glad you enjoyed the intro!

Hand-holding in games

Depends on how far the "hand-holding" goes for me. I love a challenge when it comes to combat, bosses and puzzles. I can play the hell out of a Souls game. I don't want my hand held in anyway when it comes to those aspects. I love the challenge.

However; I do want my hand held when it comes to traveling an open world. Nothing annoys me more than aimlessly around around searching for where I need to go to complete a quest or reach a destination. I'm OK if the boss is ridiculously difficult at my destination, but I want that glowing, gold path leading me there. LOL

AND NOW... story time with grandpa, kids ;-)

One of the most annoying parts of a game that I can remember (back during the good ol' NES days) was Zelda 2. I can't remember exactly the quest, but I recall needing to meet an old man in his cabin, which was in the forest... however; there was NO indication where it was except some dialogue describing it briefly. You, literally, had to find the exact tile in the center of a massive forest on the world map. And if you ever played Zelda 2... the world map had a LOT of forest. I actually broke that game when I was a kid because that part upset me so much, and I missed the dialogue explaining where it was. I played it again just a few years ago and looked it up online and was like... no wonder I never beat this stupid game as a kid!!

you are stuck in a videogame for 1 week

The Sims. I'd marry a Goth, WooHoo everyone in the neighborhood and then bring back millions of Simoleons. Anyone know what the exchange rate of Simoleon to the American dollar is right now? :-P

Still playing though, but loved some of the humor so far. The battles are good, sometimes kicking my butt. Damn wolves stop howling, I'm about to die and I need to find a save point! Eat fire.

Glad to hear you're playing and enjoying the humor so far. That was one of my main focal points of the game :-) Hopefully the slight challenge in combat is a good thing? I always like a challenge, so I did try for that, but didn't want to make it too difficult. Keep me posted on that and how future combat goes.

Anyways, two thoughts:
•While I would always talk to anyone with a twirling orb above their head, everytime I forgot what each color meant. Pehaphs adding contextual icons or short words to the middle of the spite? Since it's already a hint element, it would just keep the player from having to memorize the colors.

Good point. I created the game, and even I sometimes forget the colors LOL I can always correct that in my next update. Or like you said... maybe even a reminder text or handbook.

•Also, I got gameover-ed failing to disarm a trap after attempting 3 times in a row. I assume its based on complete chance and outside my control (Correct me if I'm wrong. Dunno if leveling up trap disarming is gunna be a thing.) My suggestion is to keep it from giving you a gameover screen, keep you at 1hp minimuim. I know the RNG gods have it out for me, but the gameover was disheartening.

I have a conditional branch with random variables tied to traps. So success is % based. You can eventually upgrade to new tool kits for Kit increasing the success %. Quick hint (doesn't make it any less frustrating tho LOL), but the flame traps (the most damaging) only ever lead to loot (never needed to proceed further), so you can technically pass on those. The acid and poison traps have a higher success rate than the flame traps. When I did play tests, after a couple attempts at the flame traps when my parties HP got too low... I just accepted defeat and ignored them. Of course... probably not the best game mechanic since players are going to want to see what's in the chests haha

Hope you keep playing. Sounds like you're in Grugg's Lair. If you do decide to stop playing, that feedback helps me out a lot too. So def send me that feedback, as well (if you don't mind). Working on my sequel and really want as much feedback as I can so I can grow as a dev and make part 2 a much better experience for everyone :-)

Thanks for playing! If you ever get stuck or need help... feel free to contact me. I'm pretty active on here and should be able to respond pretty quick.

Thanks! Did you get a chance to play this one?
I did. I also left you a great review days ago but the site hasn't posted it yet.

Wow! Thank you! So glad to hear you liked it and can't wait to see your review. Those are extremely helpful for me. Let's me know where I can improve and what to continue doing. Can't wait to share my next Tales of Yuria with you all. Feel free to sub to this page for updates. I'll be posting a blog on here with my new page for Tales of Yuria 2 once it's up on the site :-)

Thanks again!

Amorphous

Hey you! Long time no chat. Saw you have a new game and figured I'd give it a play.

First off--took some getting used to in terms of controls, but I love a challenge. My first few play-throughs were pretty bad LOL I got 1 star. I eventually got 2 stars (and got very excited). I then started to learn the enemies movements and attacks, and that moving nonstop is key. I was able to get all 10 STARS! Took me about 8 tries to get that.

Below are the Scorecard screenshots you requested under a HIDE TAG:

AND NOW... for my proudest moment! :-)

Great job! Looking forward to seeing where this goes and play again.
