Gaming and game design are my hobbies. I've spent the most time with VX Ace and 2k3 (prior to Steam release), but the only thing I've ever finished anything with is 2k.

Psychology was my first degree, but being responsible for depressed kids was too stressful. So I got a Masters in Healthcare Management and now I'm responsible for depressed adults!

Consoles & Favourite Games

NES: Zelda II
My other choice was Final Fantasy III (JP), but I technically never played that on the NES. Zelda II always felt more in depth than some other NES-era action/RPG games, even though in reality it is fairly short.

SNES: Final Fantasy VI
Back when 30 hours of content was large for a game; I never finished the game until the SNES Classic came out.

N64: Zelda: Majora's Mask
I liked the plot and aesthetic more than Ocarina of Time, although mechanically I feel OoT's semi-linear progression flowed better.

GameCube: Animal Crossing
My siblings and I logged hundreds of hours across a few towns; the real-time aspect made checking in every day worthwhile.

Wii: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
The last of the Fire Emblem games with the Classic play style as the default; I have no problem with Casual mode, but ever since it was introduced, the games have been too easy on lower difficulties that the perma-death is irrelevant and simultaneously too hard on the higher difficulties that Casual mode becomes a necessity.

WiiU: Xenoblad Chronicles X
Didn't know what to expect when I bought it on clearance at GameStop, was surprised by how large the game is. It reminded me of Xenosaga from the PS2 in terms of theming and visuals, and I later found out it is technically part of that series.

Switch: Animal Crossing - New Horizons
They removed a lot of the personality from the villagers as some were considered too "mean", and the focus on online has its own issues, but the other games available on Switch haven't held my attention like this one.

GameBoy: Pokemon Yellow
Original GameBoy games with a significant amount of content that weren't ports of NES/Arcade games are few and far between in my memories. You had Pokemon and the Final Fantasy Legend games, and a few other notable titles scattered around.

GameBoy Color: Pokemon Gold
I had to choose between this and the Zelda Oracle games; Pokemon had greater replayability and post-game content, so it wins out.

GameBoy Advance: Fire Emblem 7
Fire Emblem got me into the the Tactical-RPG genre and non-Pokemon RPGs as a whole.

Nintendo DS: Mario Kart DS
The DS was the last console I owned, along with the Wii, before I got a job and could just buy my own games whenever. Mario Kart DS took the console Mario Kart games and didn't compromise, adding missions and online play.

Nintendo 3DS: Mario Kart 7
Mario Kart 7 and the Zelda ports were the games that I feel really solidified the 3DS as a competent piece of hardware, despite being weaker than Sony's handhelds. Full-scale console games with great graphical quality, and as is tradition for Nintendo, Mario Kart is the only game with passable online servers.

PS1: Twisted Metal 2
One of the first PS1 games I had, and it was multiplayer, so my brother and I would play for hours.

PS2: TimeSplitters 2
Basically Goldeneye with more content.

PS3: Fallout New Vegas
I remember liking a lot of PS3 games, but I spent most of my time with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. New Vegas functioned better mechanically, and was a little more vibrant with the environments.

PS4: Persona 5
I have a bad habit of starting RPGs and stopping mid-way, but I finished this one fairly quickly after a slow start. I did the same for Royal later on, but it didn't have the same excitement for me.

PSP: Dissidia Final Fantasy
It came in a bundle with my PSP, so for a few weeks, it was my only PSP game and I spent hundreds of hours on it in the end.

PS Vita: Persona 4 Golden
The reason I bought a Vita, and a prime example of why Sony should have supported the handheld more before quietly delivering the killing blow this year (PS Store for PSP/Vita/PS3 shuts down August).

Sega Genesis: Phantasy Star IV
I'm not big on platformers or beat 'em ups, so the Phantasy Star series was my go-to on the Genesis along with Shining Force.

Sega Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi
I've only played a few Dreamcast Games, and Sonic Adventure was nice but I'm not big on Sonic. I have Jet Set Radio but never played it, so Crazy Taxi it is.
PC: Roller Coaster Tycoon
When I first played this at my cousin's house, I was hooked.

Playing the game felt like a chore, and I didn't like how extensive I did the notes. Basically I would keep a notepad near me during play, jot down things of interest, and immediately turn the notes into a chapter right after.

I guess what I'm asking is this. Would it be fine if I played the game, recorded notes, and stockpiled notes to turn into chapters later on? Also, I'm thinking of skipping (or vaguely mentioning) bits of play that aren't too amazing for writing a story, I guess?

If playing the game feels like a chore and the writing prep is getting tedious, I would stop. The whole thing was a kind-of-relaxing creative writing exercise for you, right? No reason to turn it into a part-time journalism job. Find your flow and do what works for you; that's why I only put out one RPG Maker project every several years. If you have to force yourself to put time into a hobby, it's time for a new hobby. If you choose to keep going and write more, we'll keep reading, if not then you at least have the nine chapters of a personal character-focused narrative.

What does your event look like? Parallel process with a conditional branch to check whether or not the key is being pressed comes to mind when I think of how I would approach it.

Seven Kingdoms (Exploits)

I remember similar strategies in some Starcraft campaign levels and popular fan-made maps. The AI prioritized attacking certain units and structures over others, so with careful positioning you could force enemy units to meander around non-offensive structures while a ranged unit continued to fire on them. Larger units were more susceptible to this as they couldn't squeeze through the minimum space between buildings. While it was difficult to stop tiny and small units in this manner, you could still disrupt swarm formations, seriously compromising the AI's ability to overwhelm your units.

Age of Empires II had AI that was weird about walls. If you completely closed off an area with walls, they would attack the wall and break through. But if you built a series of walls where there were no closed off areas, the AI would often prefer to wander through your maze while taking fire from towers and ranged units rather than try and break down the wall.

I came here for classic RTS exploits and all I found were morally questionable fetishes.

Please turn these into MV generator parts!

If you bought RPG Maker MV via Steam there was free DLC that added modern generator parts to the character generator but had to be manually moved to the correct folder to be used. One included item was a gas mask that bears a passing resemblance to the third image you posted, and with some editing in Photoshop (or Gimp since that's free), could be made to look like at least one of the masks you posted.

There's a thread on RPGMakerWeb: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/lightning-round-questions.103128/

My familiy finances went very bad when my parents separated, but this didn´t mean I stayed without gaming when this happened.

I just couldn´t aquire anymore any videogames more modern than the PS2 or a top of line gaming computer, but I compensated for this by playing older or indie games, that could be played in the computers that I could afford.

I remember growing up with a single mom and two siblings. My brother and I played a lot of 90's PC games that had LAN play and could be run on both our bare-bones Windows XP laptop and the family PC. This was around 06-07. The computers couldn't handle the free MMORPGS available at the time, so those were out of the question.

You never have as much fun with a game as you do when you have no other options.

Even if Niagara County is more conservative, it's still New York. Everyone has obliged the mask policy in any public spaces I've ventured to, and I've yet to really run into an outspoken anti-masker. Though here and there, you'll see someone who wears their mask dumb with their nose sticking out. Defeats the purpose, don't it? Still, at least 80% of the people in Lockport aren't publicly idiots about the plague.

I wish central Massachusetts had that level of common sense. The city of Worcester turned into a nightmare zone rivaling the chaos that Boston had seen at the start of the pandemic, and virtually all towns surrounding Worcester are "red" politically speaking, so you can imagine the disconnect between those who live in the city and those who just pass through for work, medical appointments or commerce. Fun Fact: MA is a blue state and numerically speaking, most people are centrists or left-leaning, but if you look at it on a town-by-town level, most of the state is red, there just aren't a lot of people in those towns.

I had missed after-hours walks to Wally-World (or "Walmart", I guess) and then Denny's, let alone bowling with my cousin here, but I've managed. Helps that I'm very much a hermit, and spent at least 70% of my life at my computer anyway. They've opened some stuff back up, but with enforced distancing and sanitary rules at limited capacity. Closest trouble was my grandmother not showing up for Christmas with my family, but a) I very much can't blame her and b) I'm personally estranged from my folks anyway. No dilemma, no foul.

I thought I was an introvert, but then the pandemic hit. I've spent a lot of time visiting outdoor historical farm exhibits, since that's one of the few things that wasn't significantly impacted by the pandemic that I still feel safe doing.

But my faith in people to... conceive of the reality of other people has been obliterated by observing their actions, even here in New York, which has been great for compliance with mask rules. I said this on another forum, but it's been an express ticket to 10 years of a bad marriage with everyone, and I want a divorce. Instant access to personal beliefs that you just aren't supposed to see. A lot of people unable to even conceptualize a chain of contagion, where, even if you get CoViD-19 in the form of a mild cold, the people to whom it spreads might develop more severe cases. Lack of education, lack of foresight. Really made me want to move out of the United States.

I've got at least three or four family members who I'm not sure I would intentionally go to a gathering with anymore. Elderly relatives who denied the pandemic even as others died from it around them, younger relatives who got swept up in political shenanigans because it was an excuse to get out of the house, etc. Thankfully my degrees and work history qualify me for accelerated immigration into Canada should anything ever get that bad.

I live in Taiwan. So, my life has been almost the same as if the pandemic never existed. There is no "lockdown" for me, and I still don't really know what it is, actually.

I have heard a lot of great things about Taiwan's ability to minimize the impact of the pandemic. I'm sure being an island with only four international airports helped the ability to control spread, but it's interesting how the more densely populated regions of the world seem to have a better grasp on the situation and have been controlling everything better.

Glad to hear a lot of people are doing alright. As somebody who works in healthcare, I want to add that you shouldn't let the mentality of "somebody else might need it more" stop you from seeking or receiving a vaccine. If you are able to get one under your local guidelines, do so. The virus affects everybody differently, and you never know if you have an un-diagnosed pre-exisitng condition that could compromise your ability to fight it off. That being said, some of the side-effects of the vaccine can really knock you down for a few days; after my first dose, I couldn't use my arm for three days, and my second dose had a day of intense symptoms, followed by a delayed allergic reaction two days later that caused a full-body rash. But I'd say it's worth it.

Stay safe out there, everybody.

How Are You All Holding Up?

A few days ago in the U.S. we "celebrated" a year of pandemic-fueled lockdown, though some states (*cough*Florida an its exporting of cases to other states*cough*) have seen tougher times than others. I've worked in mental health for years, and the number of suicides, suicide attempts, overdoses, and repeat hospitalizations I've seen people go through lately has just stayed at a dangerously high level. I mean, we've got a 3-6 month waiting list for therapy at our practice, and even medication management has up to a month wait time.

So the real question is, after a year or more depending on where you live, how are you all holding up?

Rachel Journals Fallout 4

I love it. I remember back before online play and sharing became the standard how people would chronicle their own character in games. The PRIMA GAMES strategy guide for Animal Crossing on the GameCube had a whole section written in this format. I think it adds something that is missing from a lot of newer games, including Fallout 4 since it railroaded you into being a distraught parent story-wise. A bygone-era when you weren't running from cut-scene to dialog sequence, and could enjoy things at your own pace.

Keep it up!
