A Theater Game Idea

author=Isrieri
Here I was thinking you were proposing an entire game to be written and performed as an opera. Now my dreams have been dashed.

I thought that's what the OP meant as well.

Luckily, I already had a similar idea, although I went with Pantomime instead of Opera; close enough?

@Avee:
Sounds fun, actually. Am imagining it starting as some slummy theatre with the pub and street fighting and a big bouncer, back alley murders...

My vote always just goes to the variations of 'Chievoes ...'chievoscore ...'chievementpoints...

The Screenshot Topic Returns

First one does suit the style better. Second one...hmm...

It stands out a bit too much.

Looking for writer/story to collaborate with on "Graphic Novel" idea (either for new game or current)

Right, so it's the art I'm into right now.
On top of Short Games.
And mixed mediums.

Either way, I have this wee idea that I think would be cool to either base a Graphic/Visual Novel around, or even just as an addition into a current game for the sake of livening up cutscenes, theatrically.

Problem is, I have no story ideas and, to be perfectly honest, no interest in coming up with heaps of dialogue or ideas to base this around. Put bluntly, I just wanna draw. I'm happy to come up with storyboards for the scenes for them to get put in, but I don't want to have to worry about deep storytelling and dialogue on top of art that takes pretty damn long to do.

So ideally, someone has a story they want to put together, or a game that they want shinier cutscenes for, and I can draw them up to be added in. Collaboration at it's finest!

Now, to show an example of what I mean:

Everything is drawn comic book style and waits on a button press before moving on. These scenes could just be inserted around about interactive sequences freely without getting in the way of event processes since they're just pictures sitting on top of the screen.

I feel like I'm not explaining myself very well, here...

Anyone has any questions, just let me know! :D

Can't call it gamerscore.

Just can't.

Looking for a short project to help work on~

If it's just random bits of artwork (sprites or w/e) just let me know what you need and I can look into getting something done. Am just trying to focus on graphics at the minute, but totally lacking inspiration; s'much easier to create stuff when you have a goal in mind rather than just blindly drawing stuff :(

Either way though, am doing nothing right now. Waiting on Shoo to get back to me so I can check out his storyboard and see what exactly he wants from me, but if you've got something specific in mind right now, I can start on that~

I've seen you project before actually!
It doesn't necessarily need to be a 20 min game, but as long as it's not going to be some supergame that I'dd have to work forever on, I'm fine; and you already seem to have everything under control anyways, so I doubt I have anything to worry about!

2k3? You'd need to remind me how file transfers work in 2k3 for maps (seriously, that always confused the hell outta me trying to bounce maps between people!) but would be happy enough to work on that.

Could do dialogue, mapping, spriting and monster sprites. Probably ...could work on battlers as well, but I expect that'd take longer; idk why, but I just always had a bit of a mental block with them. Edits would get done faster than fresh redraws, for sure.

Specifically, I'm most interested in non-animated art at the minute (i.e: monsters). Animating sprites, as good as they look, is pretty boring since it's just repeating the same, but sliiightly different art 3~9 times. Monster sprites only need to be drawn once (and thus, buckets more fun), so I'll happily go over your Enemies Tab with sprites ;)

Whichever suits, really. Would like to have a butchers at the storyboard though, then maybe we can discuss specifics.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Having the whole screen covered in menus just doesn't have a good visual appeal. It doesn't matter that the characters stats are being covered because it's a menu you're not currently using anyways, and it leaves you with the monsters as just something visual left on the screen.

The second screeny (above) isn't as bad since it does leave space, and shows everything, but it's up to you whether or not you want that.

Followers Control

As always TDS, cool script. Been thinkin' about this recently and realising that setting up scenes with followers is a lot harder than it need be.

Maybe we don't care if people cheat, though?

I wouldn't say so, tbh. As long as they don't do something stupid like introduce a leaderboard for all users on the site (which certainly will encourage cheating). If the gamerscore (equivelant) just gets plonked, say, underneath makerscore or something, then it'd still let people keep track of their socres while sharing them, without really encouraging folk to cheat and such.

Of course, some people still will, but do we really give a shit about those people? S'not as if they gain anything, and cheaters who are stupid eonugh to make it obvious that they cheat just auto-lose respect anyways.

Although, I'm not saying to just completely abandon all form of security aroud [however you plan on doing it; all that coding jargon lost me), just that I wouldn't say potential cheaters should be a reason to not do it.
