The Screenshot Topic Returns

I don't think there's anything wrong with their size, shape or position. I think the problem is that they're too black. You have a certain colour palette going on there without any outlines or anything; nothing reaches that dark a colour. Then suddenly these cracks are solid black, and it's the only thing the eye can focus on. They'd look better as very dark gray/ground colours, I reckon.

Are Rogue RPGs bad RPGs?

randomisattion does not "equal" replayability, but taht doesn't mean something doesn't get replay value by being random.

Roguelies are considered great for replay value because when you do try again, you get to know that you won't just be trapsing through the exact same levels and maps again, to the point where you just zone out. You get to experience different maps and something scenically new to travel through as you do the next run.
However, replay value can't rely solely on that one fact, but it can't be denied that the game would lose a lot of replay value should the randomisation be removed.

Colour coding alone helps a lot. Everything is blue and gray, with the wholee map centering around a large contrasting colour in the middle. May not be obvious that i's a teleporter, but is pretty obvious that you're gunna wanna action-button it!

What is the perfect encounter rate?

That point's already come up earlier in the thread. As much as people like to think random encounters are "forced", it's really a lot more situational than that. It's not that hard to make random encounters a more flexible encounter type for the playeers, and it's plenty easy to have touch encounters be more forceful and flow-breaking for the players.

Then again, if someone doesn't enjoy your battle system, then they shouldn't be playing the game regardless of whether it's random or touch.

How much can you express on sprites?

I'd say that it's a one-or-the-other thing with facesets andd sprites. People generally only focus on one (at a time), and generally won't notice or care if there's only one to be seen.

My last VN project was a Pantomime and I wanted to spend as little time as humanly possible doing art or edits, so went with (what Solitayre said) the small things. Eyes closed, a wink, laughing, and then after that just relied on the sprites movements, directions, jumping, spinning etc and frequent emotion-bubbles. That's essentially zero artwork involved for a lot of extra characterisation, which is probably the kind of thing you're after with a massive cast.

A lot can be conveyed by simple things like that with the right timing in the event process; start with small edits like that and then just work it up if you want more complex ones afterwards. Although I agree with CharlesMugford: set your sprite style/size in stone and make a template character with emotionsets, then your actual cast can be quickly and easily drawn over it~

In need of a peculiar script for a "game-bombing"

Windows 7 comes default with it's own snipping tool as well. Not to mention that just highlighting another screen (whilst leaving the game still visible) will let you hit print screen an take a shot of the game, without the game registering any buttons being pressed.

Besides, why would you want to punish someone for taking screenies of a game that, by all rights, you should be taking screenies of for display/promotional purposes anyways?

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I don't think they'd look as good coloured, unless the saturation is pretty low.
Could be wrong though; I'm just basis that on a mental image~

And they are (well, at least the two we're shown) pretty different from each other. Reckon it'd be more of a problem if all the icons were too similar in shape.

What is the perfect encounter rate?

See, your very attitude comes off as pretty trollish; can you really blame me for thinking you're just trolling when you're persistently acting like a troll, and have achieved literally nothing other than causing arguments and winding people up?
And not to mention the fact that nothing you've said has actually had any useful bearing or impact on the OP itself; derailing being another key aspiration for trolls.
Although you've dragged me down that insidious path with you as well, so I can hardly talk, can I?

Your points have been directly addressed and refuted; you've just been ignoring them all. Feel free to have a butchers at page 2, where I replied to your point exactly as you said it, and explained why your point is invalid. Just because you can find a common ground or element of truth in two separate things doesn't make it so. Just because something can be implemented badly doesn't mean that very thing is bad in itself. Just because some developers misuse or abuse a feature doesn't mean that feature is bad.

You keep insisting that touch encounters are superior in every way, which is about as correct as saying that books are better than movies. You may feel that way personally, but to say with any kind of authority that that is a fact, is a pretty ignorant, arrogant, stupid and -most importantly- wrong thing to say.

Reality will not bend to your will just because you keep repeating the same things, the same ways, several times when people explain why you're wrong. But hey, feel free to read this then repeat your point exactly yet again.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Nah, s'good to like the icons. They're nice and clean, and they suit the visual look of the rest of the text.

What is the perfect encounter rate?

I have to ask, out of pure curiosity: have you just been trolling this whole thread?

Because, when someone repeats the same stupid/wrong things for a page or two and ignores someone, you just think they're being arrogant or too self-involved to listen to anyone else....but we're four pages in now and you've got a number of posts on each page saying the exact same stupid/wrong things you were on page one, while insisting that no one's listening to you despite the fact that you've basically been clinically proven wrong on each page.

Someone just being arrogant/idiotic usually doesn't bother this long, or just flips their lid and throws a tantrum, but you're still here and haven't changed your attitude at all, which is basically forcing everyone else to waste their time repeating themselves. Which is what trolls strive for.

I wouldn't be so surprised: I mean, a troll on an internet forums? omg right?
But honestly, I just don't see them on RMN...ever. Never even realised it until you came along...

Either way...since we're four pages in now and you've had buckets of attention thrown at you; you've had your fun, can we just go with Craze's idea and have a serious, legitimate discussion about the OP without you shit-stirring anymore?

Tyvm~
