Oh my GOD, I have been bashing my head on the desk ever since I said I would in my edit, but I finally remember! My dad used to play this all the time, and I'd watch because I was too terrified to actually play it.

I can only just about remember gameplay (probably because I was about 3 or 4 years old), but the songs in these games have lodged themselves into my mind permanently.. They probably make me feel most nostalgic out of any game.
Edit: Arghhh, there's this song in my head that makes me quite nostalgic but I can't think of what it's from and it's killing me! *bashes head on desk*

I haven't either, I only make them maybe twice a year for my boyfriend. D: I otherwise don't have them often. Occasionally, I like to use chocolate chips if clotted cream isn't available. Best. Recipe. EVER.

I think you need to try things for yourself. Just go use the trial for a bit and see what you think, or you'll never really get a feel for what it actually is. Telling you the advantages and disadvantages is great and all, but it won't show you which is better. I personally think Ace is better but as Locke said, there are so many more scripts for VX.

As for your issue with the RTP, they could have just not included any graphics at all and made everyone draw everything. It's their choice what graphic style they go for, and the cutesy one seems to work for a lot of people. If you dislike it, you should go find other graphics or make your own. That's just a whole other aspect of game design you have to deal with.

Notable differences between VX and VX Ace
There are scripts for better battle systems, and there's a pretty popular sideview one which is used very, very heavily so should have a big help section for glitches and stuff.
There's a mix and match battle background now, but you can choose to have the blur if you want.
And you can get rid of the cutesy if you hate them that much. Just use your own custom graphics.
