I think if you do swear, it's important to have the other characters react to it above all. It just deepens its effect, like with everyone here giving their own two cents on swearing. Some people are cool with it, but a lot of people seem to think it's quite vulgar and tasteless. After what people have said, I feel bad about swearing now. XD

Like the scene LockeZ quoted from Firefly, the characters are actually setting up the swear before it even happens. If Simon had just gotten off of the ship and yelled "son of A BITCH!", it wouldn't be funny because a) it's not in his character and b) it just doesn't have any taste to it. It's funny because it's set up beforehand, and you could guess at how Kaylee was gonna react after their previous discussion and that sort of deepens their relationship in a way, but also the watcher's relationship with them as characters.

I personally never used to swear up until age 16. My sister swore. A lot. Like, I'm sure she used "fuck" as punctuation at times. When you're around someone for a long time, particularly someone who swears a lot, you don't really consider your language very much. I still don't swear in front of authoritative figures or strangers, and I've been cutting back as of recent, but I'll quite comfortably use some less offensive swears in front of friends.

My point is, I think that if one character swears a lot, people are going to react. Like, "what did you just say?" or "you kiss your mother with that mouth?" or they might even pick up on it themselves. Particularly a love interest might try to mimic certain words to make themself seem more likeable and appealing to the other character, or even just a child/younger character trying to look cool or learn. Also, not everyone swears all of the time. A lot of people don't swear in front of their mothers or grandparents, or like me with strangers. And as has been mentioned, most people will stick to the same set of words so you shouldn't throw in a cuss from out of the blue that hasn't been said before.. unless this person really, really tries to make use of every swear word under the sun.

TLDR; Uhh, show progression in your games when it comes to character personality, and also reactions to the actions and words of other party members. Helps player relate to them.

I've no issues with you using it either, so long as Sana's okay with it. ^^

Cool, cool. I'll see what I can do about the little pinchy-anime-anger-sign-thing if possible.. The laughing won't be difficult, I'll just shut his eyes.

And I'll get cracking on the Angel and Demon faces soon, too.

Testers/People Willing to Do Artwork?

Double post for updatingness!

HERE is my work so far. I made three expressions for each face apart from Demon and Angel. I made a sad face, angry face and surprised face. I figured you could probably use his sad face for worry, his angry face can double up as determination or contemplation, and his starting face is very, very joyful. If you want an even more joyful face or want more in-depth expressions for the faces I cheated on, just say and I'll make them a bit more obvious.

Testers/People Willing to Do Artwork?

Quick question: is Hiron's psychic faceset intentionally without a scar?

EDIT: Also, in some of them, his face is chubbier than others.. Did you make his face once and then try to remake it again from memory? :P

@LockeZ: This must be what going mad feels like..

I forgot secret hidden super obvious option F) censoring. Self-explanatory. Though I think it would really, really detract from being able to take a scene seriously..

Yay, woo! Thanks! But not really. It took too little time to do, and I don't think it fits into VX very well. It stands out a bit..

But yes. Doing this was a lot more important than education. :P (It was either sit around waiting for my next lesson and do nothing or be sensible and do this, so mehhh. I'mma use my time wisely, I think!)

The way I see it, I can think of a few options:

A) Keep the swearing in, screw everyone else and keep making games with the language you want to use regardless of what they think.

B) Take the swearing out. Characters will show no reaction to stubbing their toes or accidentally leaving the oven on.

C) Tone the swearing down. Use different words. Instead of "fuck you" make it "screw you" or "up yours". It doesn't contain such a blatant swear word but still gets the point across. So long as it's not "you spoony bard", all is well.

D) Create your own swear words in the world. I've not read his books, but I'm constantly told how great Terry Pratchett is. I hear he uses a lot of weird, funny alternatives to swearing. I found this list of "swear words" and where they come from. Some of them do contain modern English swears, but I'll let you be the judge of how tacky they sound.

E) Very similar to D: use a different language. The characters in Firefly swear in Chinese. I mean, most of the time you don't know what on Earth they're saying, but you get the jist that they're saying something bad.

Transferring them to the different types of Hiron would be no problem if I saved the expression onto a separate layer which can just get pasted over onto each one.

I'll get started on this after sleep. Those facial expressions don't sound too tricky to handle. ^^

That burger is so adorable..
For some reason, watching that reminded me of this:
