I sympathize with you on the 2x2 thing (from experience). It adds steps you don't get from working with 2k3. It's like having a doorknob that only works when turned one way. Just more shit in the way.
But it's pointless to explain this to people who think their god is the one true god. Just keep doing what you're doing. There will always be people who hate everything you do, particularly on a gamedev forum where elitism shines brightest.
