FAENON'S PROFILE

Thirty something year old long time rpgmaker lurker turned semi active rmn poster in it for the long haul on a game he started as a teen ager. I'm also married, a Dad, a high school Philosophy and Theology teacher with a PhD from the University of Oxford, a committed Christian, and a writer (see my twitter).

The Cerebral Symphony

Ok, got a week off work this week to try to finish TCS Chapter 3 in time for Christmas. Wish me well!

Debug

Hi, I'm leaving this comment here because Chrome has blocked my viewing of the Neo Jado main page for some reason. It says that it has had content from "njmax.com", a malware distributor, inserted into it.

Anyway, I just finished this (Part1) yesterday -good job! I reall really like the cutscenes, the battles where you react by pressing a button and cool stuff happens (LOVE this), the characters and the minigames.

One thing I was thinking all the way through was: Wouldn't this work really well as a non-comedy, more 'serious' fantasy game? I think it would. I don't know if it would be too hard to take out all of the joke characters, joke dialogue and cutscenese, but I think this could go from really good to absolutely amazing in the process. Just my opinion. In the same vein, I think this game could really benefit from some unified facesets -it's just really messy the way it is now.

But on the whole, awesome work! I think this project deserves to have a higher profile on RMN than it does at the moment. Can't wait for Part2, how's it coming?

Pokémon RMN Version

Ok I resubmitted Frissel, now a fire pokemon, and Frazzel. Also submiited Bochoco, a normal type, and Shenwrong, a Dragon/Psychic type. Happy for things to be tweaked/nerfed/edited if it means they make it in!

- I never thought squirrels could be white, but seriously all you gave me as an image is a picture of a white squirrel. That doesn't tell me much other than that your pokemon is a squirrel, obviously. You can do better than that!

- For a base stage Pokemon, it is on par with Nidoking in terms of stats. They really need to be nerfed.

- Hyperbeam is NOT a move for base-stage Pokemon! Put it on fully evolved Pokemon.

- It's manual moves aren't very diverse. Considering it evolves into a flying squirrel, stuff like U-turn wouldn't hurt.

- Lastly, keep your text files consistent. Is its name supposed to be "Rizzel" or "Rissel"?

Razzel-denied
- It's stats are barely different from the pre-evo! But in this case, your pre-evo needs a nerf in stats anyway, so you can honestly leave this one they way it is if you do that.

- Again with the image. At least try to make it look like a Pokemon!

- The transition from Normal to fire/flying just doesn't feel convincing enough for me. I would personally prefer that this was just a Normal/Flying type which evolved from level as oppose to a stone. That's just me.

Bundulation-denied
- Denied because it's name breaks the 10 character limit. It's there for a reason. Pokemon Essentials won't compile the game if it goes over 10 letters, and extending that limit would make it look awkward with the HUD system, since all of the Pokemon resources are built around that limit.

- These dark types are killing me. Maybe at least make it Psychic/Dark instead? At least that type combo hasn't been submitted yet.

Ok so I've now resubmitted based on this feedback.

Sorry, I tried to follow your guidance for stat numbers, but I guess I misinterpreted it.

I have nerfed Rissel now. Feel free to nerf it more if that suits -you can see what kind of relative strengths and weaknesses I'm going for. Also feel free to use this as an early router if you want -I can put in an intermediary/third evolution if requested.

I've swapped my jpgs for more rough sketches from mspaint.

And I've changed Bundulation's name to Bundulate, now making a triple pun on Bunny/adulation/undulate! I like it as Fairy/Dark, but if you really wanted you could change Dark to Psychic and swap the moves accordingly, that wouldn't affect the concept too much.

Pokémon RMN Version

Are we allowed to resubmit based on feedback?

Pokémon RMN Version

Ok, I've submitted my first 3, just in case spaces free up. RIZZEL, a squirrel NORMAL type, which can evolve into RAZZEL, a flying squirrel FIRE/FLYING type, and BUNDULATION, a beserker royal rabbit DARK/FAIRY type. I hope to add some more when I get time. I'm also happy for different evolutions (either the earlier or later ones) to be cut out in order to fit any of them into this game if these get approved and that becomes a possibility.

Pokémon RMN Version

Aw man, I just got some free time to make some contributions to this. But have now seen that the 150 slots have been filled :(

I'm just going to go ahead and create my pokemon anyway, and then if you do decide to limit entries per person in this event or have a final cutting stage, all the better, and if not then I can submit them to the next event (though wouldn't it be better to make an expansion as opposed to a whole new game?)

Thanks Zadok! Yep, still going, though progress is slow, still hoping to hit Christmas release date for Chapter 3 (prob beta).

Thanks for spotting that raikenjenova. I watched your video and saw that, I will fix the bug, thanks. Some other things to mention from the video: Carys's skills change depending on who else is in the party (and also what personality they are), as her summoning moves are animals that she imagines embody the personalities of her teammates. Also, the reason that you fought so many 'Sprite' enemies in the Fire Temple is because if you walk near the lava or get knocked into it then the random encounter switch is activated and is set really high, so you encounter enemies. But I think I made the top encounter box too big, as shown in your video, so I need to fix that too. Oh, and good point about the battle BGM in the Temple -reminded me that I need to change that too as it gets stuck on the one from the play at the Carnival.

Anyway, great video, thanks! If anyone wants to watch it, raikenjenova has now finished his youtube Let's Play of TCS Chapter 2, you can check it out on the media page.

Chapter 3 will be out by this Christmas at the earliest. It's probably going to be called "The Experiment", though that's a working title. Screenshots and previews to appear over the next few months -Master's thesis and exams are now over!

Lastly, if anyone out there wants to make a map or two for me, let me know here, see my recent topic on the Help and Requests forum, or look at the blog for this game dated Feb 2013.

Looking to recruit mapper(s) -will review/test/write in return!

Howdy. I really suck at making maps so I’m looking to recruit some map-making help: either some one-off creations of single maps or an official map-maker to be credited as a developer of my main project http://rpgmaker.net/games/2693 This is in rpgmaker 2003.

I know that everyone says that you have to practice to learn mapmaking better, but I am REALLY challenged in this area and I don’t have much free time to work on my game so it’s pretty demoralising.

Also, to sweeten the deal, I’m willing to do something in return: review your game, playtest your game, or write some dialogue for you (writing I like to think I am slightly better at than the visual stuff, check my main project to judge for yourself). Also, if you make more than one map for me then as I say I will credit you as developer of my game and you will get RMN reputation and makerscore from that too! Yaaaay!

The specific maps I am looking for at the moment (using particular chipsets I have in mind, but open to suggestions of others) are three:

1. An airship deck, blank background (FF6 style or similar).

2. A big jungle map.

3. An Aztec temple-style building and battle arena.

If you don’t want to do this, could you at least point me in the direction of a rm2000/2k3 game that has any good maps like these in, so I can try and emulate them?

If you are interested, reply here and I will PM you with details about the suggested chipests I am trying to use. As soon as you send me the map, name your choice of review, bugtest or dialogue and I will return the favour!
