SD Interface Demo 2014 (Linux Version)

Haha no worries then, kinda my fault here for just forgetting about it entirely for an eternity.

Set Discrepancy

Haha okay, sorry, rereading my message I did kinda overreact! (well, it was late at night)
's just, you know, I'm more afraid of the "billions of years to do all the work" than the one-year wait to start :P And I've been reading far too much indie dev advice screaming at your face that you should always finish your games no matter what because artistic ambition is transitory but Gam is eternal or something.

But since the job part is not a problem anymore, it does remove a huge incentive to hurry and get your games out there in the world. Lots of congrats!

2014 Misaos - The VOTENING

Every game that gets finished is an insult to the spirit of true RPG Making.

Hell, every game that even releases a demo after more than one month of screenshot hype is blasphemy. In proper RM contests, we used to have a category for the Best Screenshots and Best Title Screen.

SD Interface Demo 2014 (Linux Version)

Halpz!

First I had to slap a couple of "# encoding: utf-8" at the start of some files because you have some Russian and Japanese and stuff in there, but that's no biggie. However, when I enter the login and password to the computer I crash like this:

/var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/glib2-2.2.4/lib/glib2/deprecatable.rb:96:in `const_missing': uninitialized constant Gdk::Event::BUTTON_PRESS_MASK
from /media/neve/nout/Games-LINUX/sd_interface_demo_linux/gui/ShellOSIcons.rb:299:in `refresh_session'
from /media/neve/nout/Games-LINUX/sd_interface_demo_linux/gui/ShellOSIcons.rb:423:in `block (2 levels) in show_login'
from main.rb:72:in `call'
from main.rb:72:in `main'
from main.rb:72:in `<main>'

Do you have an idea what I should change? (don't work on fixing it, seeing as I'm four months late to the party, just let me know if you have a clue, or which version of glib you used when building this)

Edit: also there ain't no such thing as a sdk3 gem, but I figured you meant gdk3 ;)

SD Interface Demo 2014 v2

Oh wait, did I actually, honest-to-Gawd, never get back to you on this?
I am a terrible, terrible human being. Imma try this right now. Sry.

"Hiatus" lol. This game is basically cancelled. :(
Oh naos!

I am sure you've gone through those thoughts a billion times, but couln't you cut short and slap on a final chapter, as soon as you find some clever Borgesian reveal or something? This game is already extremely impressive, and I do believe that having a finished game of that caliber under your belt would really count toward your prospects of gam mak for monies, as a portfolio piece both for employers and for potential players/clients if you go the indie way*.

(*Edit: I may be wrong, but IMHO while your other projects with Fidchell may be a better programming portfolio, they feel less striking from a player's perspective)
(Reedit because that sounded a lot like me being a jerk: I haven't seen much of those projects obviously, but I feel like the technical display is less visible to the player)

There's always time for a HD remake ten years later on a handheld console, as Squaresoft proves every year.

Hell, if what you need is a good conclusion to the story, I know one hell of a short story writer (professional and all) who would surely have a boatload of ideas to throw at you until one sticks.

Exeunt Omnes Review

Again, all my thanks Zeuzio! :)

I have defintely been working on the underlying engine to improve the UI and the planning possibilities for the player. Mostly for future projects, but who knows, I might do an Exeunt Omnes HD some day :P

2014 Misaos - The VOTENING

At least, some of this year's loveliest games are nominated, so I'll just vote for them and not take the whole thing too seriously. Like Liberty said, go play Last Word and Fleuret Blanc, and also Unraveled and Linus which is definitely the demo of the year ;)

To avoid outrage next time though (or even possibly right now with the votes too), you might want to do like a lot of rating systems and weigh the votes by relevance. Like, what matters is not only the total number of votes for a game, but how strongly those votes go toward a specific category*.

I can provide an algorithm if that helps.

(* sure that might be "unfair" for a game that's perfect all around, but that's not really our main problem here)

No Gold for Brigands Review

Edited to put the more personal note below as a comment rather than in the review:

On a side note, I also have to commend the author, who I think has come a long way since Demonic Tutor (which I tried just before this, for one hour). Perhaps the switch to a lighter tone, and away from overdone RPG mechanics and tropes was for the best, but there is also a constant stream of ingenious little touches here that redeem a lot of the game's faults, and that was lacking in previous works.

And to conclude, really if you'd take a little time to reread and correct what you write, and worked a bit more on everything, you'd make something really cool ;)

RMN Secret Santa 2014

Oh the secret has been unveiled!
@Zeuzio, we never interacted but that was a cool review, and thanks for putting up with the UI (it's in that shape because I didn't have time to retouch it before the contest's end, I will definitely improve on it.)

@kory, I'm glad you liked it, I will submit it right now with a couple of corrections. We can discuss more once it is posted if you'd like.

@Pizza, my appreciation for the Ratigan avatar. That brings back memories.
