This makes me happy.

Set Discrepancy

And now I feel bad that I never got to the end of the chapter with all the locked doors. I'm no good with locked doors. Aniwai, this is and shall probably remain in the top 3 of the best games to ever grace this site, even incomplete and with so many locked doors. So no need for guilt and sorrow, except as midbosses in a Kojima game.

I'm a week or so away from putting up a game page for a project which was supposed to be "quick" and "simple" since it would use mostly default systems, but somehow it's taken 16 months to make the first chapter. There's no winning at this.

A strange gam. The only winning move is not to mak.

All the congrats, that was well deserved ! :) Plus it got me to play the game, so it was a good thing. Gotta love the Koz'.

PSA: The Gender Stuff

Most aspects of this theme in this game were pretty graceful (by which I do not necessarily mean subtle ;) ) so three thumbs up for that. There's saying something that matters, and there's saying it well, and thankfully you do both.

Concerning some of the comments, I'm a little sad that anyone should be scared of talking about anything, especially when they're trying to be positive. But of course, the "rules" are okay as a provisional thing - if they finally get us to the point where few enough people have been hurt intentionally that we stop needing protection from blunders, then incalculable good will have been achieved :)

Anyway, I just wanted to say to charblar and unity: even if you 'know' nothing, what you feel can always help someone somewhere who doesn't quite fit in other pictures, so don't suppress it altogether (as long as you're willing to apologize and adapt if, or hopefully before, offense happens).
Just like I'm thankful to emmych and pentagon, I'd be thankful for what you could have to say. At the core, no one is uniquely cis or trans or anything else, and no experience is irrelevant. We're just human and trying to make sense of it all.

McBacon Jam (2?) post mortem

Well I think you can be either more lax or less. Well defined boundaries are helpful too, and it seems it's what most people here are asking for. It could also be helpful to first put people into pools depending on their expectations/commitment level.

Unity> I hear you, 90% of my team experiences have reminded me that I work better alone, sometimes it really burns.

I enjoyed taking part in the first jam though! We had some setbacks but it still feels like a net positive, if only because compromising with others implies going out of one's comfort zone, hopefully in interesting ways. bp and I will finish that game someday.

Using OODA to write battler AI

It's cute on paper but it is remarkably unsatisfying to play against

I wonder. That's definitely true if you also make enemies stronger and/or more numerous. I could see the appeal of a game where you are the guy with 5-digit HP fighting four puny humans who happen to be clever. Though of course they have to be able to fail in predictable ways.

Haha thanks! I realized I would never have time to draw enough stuff for a whole game in a semi-realistic style, so I've been looking toward something more like illuminated manuscripts, russian illustrations, persian miniatures... Still, nothing set in stone. I wanted to go the Eyvind Earle way but Banner Saga did it better than I could :P

Thank you so so much :)

To be fair, given the UI and everything, you cannot really suck or be good at the game right now, since a lot is out of your hands (especially on the first playthrough). Next game will be much better on that front, hopefully!

Sadly, it has been months since I've been able to work on it, I am at a pretty decisive juncture in my RL career and all other plans have been overriden for the moment. (Can you believe I hoped to get a first draft of the new game done by August? Ha ha silly me.) But your comment really helps restore my motivation.

As a thank you, here's a very modest teaser: one of my early researches on the art style for the next game. The end result will be quite different but it is still very much in flux so I dare not show more ;)
