My name's Kasey Ozymy. I'm a game designer from Texas. I made Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass and am currently working on Hymn to the Earless God.

Actually, the horned lizard is a real-life thing, haha. You might know them as horned toads or "horny toads" (that's how we referred to them growing up). I think they may be endangered now; I've never actually seen one and they're supposed to be indigenous here.
As for Jimmy, all the enemy designs are done, and there are only two palette swaps that I can remember, both of which are robots (and their upgraded forms). I wanted there to be a lot of novelty to the enemies, so I avoided palette swaps for the most part.

Nice to hear more from Information Guy. I like the way he speaks a lot ^_^
Good, because he won't shut up!

Status effects don't persist after battle in this game. So, once you get it, you're dead in three turns, and you have to come up with a plan of action on the spot. It's a pretty nasty one, so it only shows up in a few battles.

Characters
Haha, I actually have something special in mind with Lars that I'll start doing probably within the month. Stay tuned!
Characters
I actually haven't seen The Tree of Life yet; Terrence Mallick makes visually stunning films, but I wasn't a big fan of his storytelling in The Thin Red Line, Days of Heaven, and Badlands, so I haven't seen The Tree of Life yet. Anyway, Helga doesn't really have far less text than the others--Jimmy has just a tad bit more, and he's the main character. I just made each of these character bios at different times so there might be a bit of inconsistency.
Regardless, all the characters will be fleshed out, so no worries there. I wanted Helga to be a good mother (otherwise it would take away the focus from the central narrative), but she's not totally idealized; I think I made it pretty clear in her first paragraph that she has a tendency to really get into things to the point that she neglects everything else. Like, she's someone who constantly falls in love with things. I also hinted in Andrew's bio that she's the kind of person who would rather everyone be happy than responsible.

McBacon Jam (2?) post mortem

After being in two of these, I'm feeling really defeated when it comes to team games. I'm really happy to see that others have had good results with the jams, but I really haven't enjoyed these. This isn't a complaint, as there's really no one at fault, but I don't think I'd enter a third one of these, as it's extremely frustrating to put in a lot of effort and have things still not work out.
Just sit a few of these out, unity; you're probably stretching yourself too thin. I kind of doubt I'll enter another one of these until I finish Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, but it's a great way to get a feel for other developers, what they value in game dev, and what their work ethic is like. Plus, like Red_Nova said, you learn things here and there.
I'm not in everyone else's heads, but I imagine that scope was the major issue for people not finishing their games on time. Maybe put a strict game length into effect for the next jam. The old hour rule is a good standard, but it might be cool (and more easily obtainable) to see something like an "under ten minute" game, for example.
Born Under the Rain Review
Thanks so much for the review! I'm super flattered that the writing stood out for you. I don't know if this is my best script, but I think that it's probably my tightest, and that's how I think about this game in general; I was just really proud of how polished it turned out (thanks largely in part to my teammates). I'll make sure to reference your naming scheme for future updates.
A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky
@Xenos: Yeah, those weapons are in those two dungeons. The last two rounds of the expert arena are pretty tough, so it might be worth going through at least some of the end-game dungeons first.
And, yeah, Ivy can become a monster now. Leif and Yvette also have way higher damage ceilings because of berserk and meditate.
@Furipu: Thanks! I had fun with that. I'm going to have a lot more storytelling through battles in Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, actually--both in direct ways like some of the arena battles and less direct ways.
