DAY 65

Very similar concept, but I wanted to focus on the ghost lady, Zylverhia. Thus far, althogh I am generally on point when I draw her on pencil, I always seem to flop in some way when I draw her digitally, especially in the face. Well it seems I may have broken that curse as I'm rather happy with this one, as it does look at least on par with traditional versions of her and I'm rather happy about how the face turned out. These last two paintings have definitely highlight my need to practice drawing people much more.

Also, the sword fire effect was me experimenting with a fancy brush. Doesn't quite look as good perhaps, but I'll just have to keep fooling with it or using other artists' work as references. That thing is of course based on the sprite animation I made of the same character as seen below:

....And then I made a pixel version using existing sprites because why the hell not.

Man, these paintings make me wanna paint something myself and thats a good thing.

...I guess.

You should. Then I can be inspired by it and paint more things!

DAY 64

This was SUPPOSED to be a quick painting where I would explore some shading for these characters as some nice practice but it ended up taking like 2 hours because I don't even know. I had a composition that jumped in my head and felt like drawing it but I guess these two are not so simple to quickly paint. Heh.

I think the shading for the knight is on track, but I'm still struggling with the ghost lady. I may just decide to have her glowing or being lit up on her own without casting light on anything, as this seems to be the common way ghosts are depicted visually in other stories. Moreover, since many of these stories take place in dark places, she'd light up entire rooms just by being there, so it's probably better for mood purposes to have her not cast light.

Also no refs were used here which was a bad idea. I may decide to come back later and redo this at a far better level with better-drawn anatomy (specifically on the knight's handling of the sword).

DAY 63

I got a set of prismacolor markers and decided to try them out. As it turns out these are pretty amazing and make for great character sketches. Until I get some skin tones I'll probably continue to paint fully armored characters such as these Blanzhardia women, but otherwise I think I've discovered something really cool to do at work now. I need to clean these sketches up a bit though, there are rough ink spots everywhere some glaring anatomical problems on these, such as on the hands, but at least now I've gotten the hang of using them.

DAY 62

Here's one of my fully armored medusa-themed warriors featuring a slightly different way of shading the gold armor (and a throwaway background). This was an older rough digital sketch that I ended up really cleaning up and repainting and I think the new gold armor turned out well, though this would probably be more for darker environments.

DAY 61

This this a painted version of a sketch I did earlier this year showing a bunch of dudes slacking off on just another day on one of the orbital rings of Convergence. I wanted to try painting a different time of day I'm not used to, this time of day being "that time around 5 PM where the sun is right in your face and you can't drive properly". It turned out okay I suppose, but the guy in the middle must be really bored if he's golfing with the sun in his face.

DAY 60

...And then this happened. It took about 4 hours so I guess that makes it a speedpaint? Still probably the best digital painting I've done yet, though there are still many improvements I could make with my painting techniques.

I also tried a version of the tower without lights. I think it ended up looking better overall than the lit version. I may have to do my lights better...

DAY 59

You've probably seen this tower looming ominously in the background in a lot of my sci fi scenery pictures, and now here it is in all its glory. This "tower" is called Convergence, and it is an arcology (self-sustaining man made colony) of immense size. The tower itself has artificial gravity everywhere and tons of advanced technology used to improve the quality of life overall, making it look like the paradise of the frontier. This can be considered, in essence, a cylindrical hollowed-out planet with the way it works. Cities are built both inside and outside the tower on its surfaces, and the spiraling clouds climbing up the side of the colony are there for the sake of simulated weather. I could go on and on about this thing, but it's probably better to draw more pictures in the future. Instead, you can have this silly diagram of the measurements of this colossal feat of futuristic engineering, because in typical HAUS fashion, I'm not satisfied with anything I draw until I've plotted out how it works.

DAY 58

Here's more paintings like the one I posted on the previous day.

I'm kind of cheating here, these weren't all done in one day. They were done over the course of about 3 months here and there during down time at work. This was a fun project started by my coworker as an effort to decorate otherwise boring desks, and while they started off as a fun blow off project, they ended up becoming real popular with the coworkers so we made more.

These are done on either 3x5 inch white canvases or 8x10 inch black canvases, and are done with a variety of cheap paint pens. For most of these we only had 5 colors to work with though they blended pretty well in some cases (especially the orange and red). This has actually turned out to be good practice in general.

Your patience and tenacity continues to be inspiring

also holy shit the sideburns in day 54...yes...good...

Yes. He is most definitely rocking some super robot side burns there.

DAY 57

I tried another ink and pencil city sketch thing, this time showing the inside of a floating city-state and randomly involving characters I recently drew. This was more me trying to realize an idea that came to my head and I think it worked out pretty well.

I didn't paint this one at the same time but recently got a chance to take a picture of it. Me and a coworker have been decorating desks at work with small paintings like these, and we usually only have 5 colors to work with. This was painted on a black canvas for added effect, but the light reflecting on the canvas kinda ruins the sky. Regardless, these are fun little projects and I'll post more of them if I get a chance to take more photos.

Welp it got busy...

DAY 56

This character is a sorcerer, which in this setting are veteran knights who use magic and wear crazy magic-enhanced armor. This one in particular has a very draconic theme to him to the point that large parts of his armor consists of monster parts. The individuality of these knights, especially as sorcerers, really shows in the armor they wear, and this is something I try to convey whenever I draw one of them.
