For over 12 years, I have been creating my own video games and art. I started out by creating games on Microsoft Powerpoint believe it or not and then graduated to Rpg Maker and eventually to more advanced engines such as Construct, Unreal Dev Kit, and Game Maker. I have mastered Adobe Photoshop over the last several years and have become proficient in using Blender. I have a passion for creating, learning, and now teaching =]

@Chana: It's not bad good job making this. I have a few suggestions for you:
1. Use the shift key to add water next to the bridges, that way the grass bit you see on the right won't appear.
2. The 2 blue roofed houses on the bottom are missing a tip at the top of the roof. This may be difficult at first as I'm guessing the chipset only has that tip attached to sides that continue to the left and right however you can easily create your own character set using the tip from the orange houses and re-coloring them light blueish-gray to match the rest of the blue roofed house.
3. The orange roof is cut off on the bottom screenshot with the base of the tree. Create an event and have it set to above hero using the image of that piece of the roof and you should be good to go.
Nice job again.

Yeah so I may have an option somewhere to turn off Hints or the messages you are referring to just to give the player an option. But yeah the song names can be turned off.
Actually I think it'd be a good idea. I'll have an options menu when you load up the game "Eden Gate" within the game itself where you can turn these things on or off.. Great idea, thanks man.
As for the icons over head that won't be changing, it's the best way I can think of for a player to see an npc is say a shop clerk if the NPC is placed on a field map for example rather than inside a shop. But thanks your interest and feedback alterego!

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games
Excellent post Max. The way I look at it personally is that every critic gives their opinions from their own viewpoint as a game designer for amature games and not necessarily as a player just trying to enjoy the game. When we give and receive critiques we do so in terms of how we personally would have made a game. This can lead a lot of times to unnecessary and un-needed feedback. I'm not saying this happens all the time, there are times when the feedback is genuine and would greatly help the game but I can't tell you how many times I have gotten feedback the likes of "I don't like that this way, change it to this and It'd be better" ...yeah it be better for you is what I think in my mind lol. For me I appreciate feedback if I can agree with it and if it is given in a positive way (No need to be an ass about it)So when I get personal opinions I just reply thanking them and explaining my viewpoint but in my head I'm also thinking if you want it done this or that way than make your own damn game lol. The game I am making is my own and ultimate decision rests on my hands you know? That applies for everyone else.

@Essence: Oh wow those look very slick. Where did you get those character sets with the instruments? Did you make them yourself?

This will be the final screen shot for a while / until a demo is close to being released. This is how the magic of Eden Gate happens. What you see here in the Zoomed in version of the World Map. It goes Star System to Planet to Continent. This map is a section from the continent of Ismene. Look for it in the demo version of Eden Gate!

@Alter: Hey thanks for the feedback, that's not the name of the area you see it's actually a song which you can play from your song selection. You have the option in game to turn it off with just one button so it doesn't need to appear continuously. Also not everyone is labeled, all non-npcs in the game including the hero and his summoned events are not labeled.
@Ashley: Thanks again brother!
