Cosplay Crisis
The dialogue is being revised, also. The fairgrounds was written a really long time ago, but that duel was only just implemented.
Plus, as Squall develops through the actual Final Fantasy VIII game, doesn't he BECOME a well-spoken leader? In fact, he makes a very inspiring speech to the entire Garden during Disc 2.
In order to make the character set up work, Levi needs to intervene when Kumo is being stupid. Levi is the 'secondary' leader, the one who goes 'No, this is a bad idea. How about we do this?'
Shadz acts as the informant, while Lulu behaves as 'comic relief'. Miri and Kyer are both the 'love interests' and the moral support, the both of them being members of LANDSLIDE.
Levi, unlike Squall, has been a 'SeeD' (Sapling) for about 7 months. He's older than Squall and has more battle experience. Despite Levi's life, actions and behavior being influenced by Squall, he has his own separate personality and behavior developed through this.

There is an intentional difference between Levi and Squall. He has some of Squall's traits yet some are his own.
As the plot develops and they get an 'enhanced' version of the 'Character Virus', Levi AND the rest of the party gradually become more like their characters. Levi's turning point character-wise occurs at the Fairgrounds, when he gets challenged to a duel with his arch-rival, Aio (and loses).

A sequel? Do you have an idea how effed up the story would be?
A sequel is currently off the cards unless there becomes a demand for it. Which there probably won't. I would like to work on some original games after completing this, I've been doing a lot of fangame work and a break would be nice 'w'

This is -earlier-. This is the reason they end up going to cosplay in Japan, because they're trying (in futility) to escape the fact their lives are like Final Fantasy. This is the catalyst.
This is the final demo I'm releasing, so it doesn't give away much of the storyline.
In the game, you're still woken up by Miri and you have to go meet up with Levi, but it's this mission that makes them decide "We're going to Tokyo goddammit."
