Whatchu reading?

Having since finished Caliban's war, I'm now on the third book in the series Abaddon's Gate, as it stands I am hooked on the Expanse series, and as soon as I finish one book, I go out and by the next one in the series (all other reading material is currently on hold.)

Discrimination within the narrative

One of the main themes in Steel Spirit SaGa is discrimination. In a world of magic users, one of the main characters, Zach is unable to use magic and he is frowned upon by the majority of people. While it's not racial hatred, it's still a form of discrimination that I'd like to tackle. Discrimination against people who are just different. It's based on my own experience of growing up with mental illness, people looking down on you, or treating you differently just because you don't behave like everyone else. Of course I try to look at both sides of discrimination, those who act negatively, and look down on you, or insult you, or avoid you because of who you are, and those who try to mollycoddle you. No matter which way you slice it, you're still treated differently, and for someone like me. I'd rather folk just act like I was an average, normal person.

And that's represented in Zach, who just wants to live his life in peace, accepted by his peers.

(Sorry if I've just talked a load of bollocks, it's not very often I get to open up about something I kinda feel strongly about.)

What are you jamming to?

Probably shared this before, but this is one of those tracks I listen to frequently, and it never gets old.

I love the dissonance between the main lead and the rest of the track. To me it sounds almost so out of tune it wraps back around to being in tune.

And when that deep synth kicks in, my ears melt into heaven.

What Do You Think About Text Pauses in Game Dialog?

I spent the past week removing text pauses from my game after reading this topic.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

I spent last week adding new characters into my game, and this week going through all the dialogue, cleaning it up, and removing all the text pauses and breaks, allowing the player to read at their own pace. Soon enough I should be able to put out the next update...

A new game in the classic Ys series

Ys 3 was IMO the weakest, Oath of Felghana makes it that bit better but it's still 'meh', Ys 1 and 2 are pretty good, and Ys 5 is awesome.

Looks like Adol is the main star again, that guy must be pushing 40 now.

Perhaps you could have a little arrow or something above the head of the character you're controlling on the HUD? Or a flashing circle around their icon?

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Let me know how it goes, and how you go about making it in 2K3, as I'm curious to see how it'd work.

When you're designing characters, and you can't think of a name, do you recycle names you've used in the past?

Hunh, that's all really cool. I like to mix up unique and common names, and if I can't think of a unique name. I reuse a name that I used in a project that never took off.
One name I tend to use a lot is Illain (Illvain if it's a badguy.)

What I want to know is will there be a chance to break the damage barrier? Like in FFX. I normally shy away from FF fan games, but I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
