Just a game dev who primarily uses RPG Maker VX Ace and enjoys writing and composing the most. I love horror games, adventure games, JRPGs, and practically any game with a compelling story.
A brief description of my projects:
Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story (Complete)
A high school dating sim with a dark twist. While you begin the game as a normal teenage boy looking for a date for prom, you'll quickly find yourself in the midst of a bloody, horrific mystery. Gameplay is primarily story and exploration driven, with numerous surprises for those who take their time to explore, with a touch of macabre adventure-style puzzles.
Turovero: The Celestial Tower (Completed)
A traditional JRPG that slowly unfolds into a deeper, darker mystery (I think this is going to become a theme with my games...). Play as four archetypal heroes ascending a mysterious tower to defeat an ancient evil, only for them to find that things aren't quite as they seem. Gameplay is a mixture of dungeon crawling and turn-based battles with plenty of environmental puzzles to solve, as well as a choice-driven narrative with multiple routes and endings.

[RMVX ACE] Custom battle transition help?
author=djbeardo
This discussion may help.
Thanks, it did help me a little bit :D I also figured out how to change the transition "animation" but I'd also like to find a way to make it transition directly to the new battleback rather than fade to black and THEN the new battleback. I'm trying to find the default script that directly controls battle transitions and see if I can mess around with it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the scripts :D;;
[RMVX ACE] Custom battle transition help?
Hey all, so I'm fiddle farting around with the battles for my next game and Google isn't being very detailed in its results when it comes to custom battle transitions for VX Ace. I found a few scripts (particularly for using the map as a battleback) but I'm still not sure how I can get them to do what I want it to do. See below for a concept I made of what I want the screen to do before a battle begins:
I'll also settle for a simple screen darken rather than a wipe if I need to. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story Review
author=Miremiraauthor=QZProductionsI personally loved all the spooky scenes so much.
Oh yeah speaking of the scares, did you have a favorite "haunting event" or just a favorite scary scene? I don't get a lot of feedback about those specifically so I'm curious :o (sorry if this is too many questions, I'm just curious!! orz)I loved the one with the mirror in that one bathroom, that gave me a good jump. I also loved the haunting even with Neela in the hallway, and how she followed you in another hallway. I was just like "oh come on, you just gotta mess with my heart, dontcha!!" And every scene with Selena was heartbreaking as well as terrifying. Like, imagine being in Kyles shoes there! Seeing someone you love in such a terrifying state, and then having them chase after you? That alone would be enough to traumatized me!
But yeah, I put it all behind spoilers just in case. But yeah I can't express how great I enjoyed everything in this game honestly!
Ahhh thanks!! I'm glad those scenes got to you huehue >:3
Did you know you can hear similar noises for when Brooke and Maggie die too, in the courtyard and the second floor of the library? :o

Neela does seem to be a fan favorite, haha! I wanted her to be the "nice girl" of the group so I'm glad she resonated so well with everyone ^^

Though I'm actually really surprised at the amount of people who wanted Claire or even Dolores to be dateable options, like... y'all have a death wish, doncha? lmao

Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story Review
Ah!! Another review!! Thanks so much, I'm super glad you enjoyed the game so much *A*
I was hoping that people would like the relative lack of jumpscares, though I was STILL worried I was incorporating too many (there's about... 6, maybe? And they're all optional I believe) lol. Good to know you appreciated it :D
Sorry about the piano music, but there WAS a hint hidden around somewhere; though you're not the first person to have (possibly) missed it. ;) Thankfully that puzzle can be solved with a bit of trial and error as well.
As for the character bit...
Thanks again for the glowing review! Also, I gotta ask - who's your Best Girl? :3c

If you meant Claire, then yeah, it was kind of intentional, and I accept full responsibility for that. In the end, she did kind of have to be shoved aside since the focus was now on Dolores - not to mention the nature of what she is makes it difficult to make her a "rounded" character. If I ever remake the game, maybe I'll find more to do with her? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Awesome game. I hope more people play it, it's so good.
Aaaah, thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :'D
What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
I just started spriting the first member of The Squad for my next game.
He's a mage. He's kind of a smart-ass but I love him anyway. <3

I guess I stopped just before scare. Didn't know I was so close, should go on then. I think your game has the potential to be long because of the freedom of exploration you give players. When I first played I talked to like every single person, and that took quite a while. For game length I used to think longer is better too, cause aren't players getting more bang for their buck? But then I read this critic saying how movies like The Hobbit(s) or Mockingjay(s) could be better if they'd condensed it into just one. Tighter storytelling. Just food for thought.
I hope you enjoy it, I can assure you you'll be surprised by SOMETHING at least ;) Thanks for giving it another chance!
I think it depends on whether the story in question has a lot of padding in it; for Prom Dreams, I tried to make sure that the structure allowed for in depth storytelling without too much padding, and that every scene either a) advanced the plot, b) developed something about the plot, or c) gave players a direction in which to go (such as the times you're supposed to talk to Randy). Whether I succeeded or not is gonna be up to you but I did try, at least. :V;;;
It also probably has a lot to do with medium; you can get away with longer, drawn out stories in video games, novels, and TV shows because they don't have that 2 hour-ish constraint that films have. In video games especially, you can hide extra details around the game for the player to find or ignore at their leisure, so that also brings up all new possibilities for telling your story.

author=watermarkauthor=QZProductionsIt's interesting to note I never got to the horror part of your game. Yet.
Hey now, in my game you're stuck in a high school ;DDDDAnd there's like one real chase scene that lasts like 3 seconds haha
See, I think I was an hour in, and except for a strange girl showing up, it's still mostly sweet date sim mode. Which is fine, but I thought I was gonna play a horror game based on the marketing info. Then I read a review that said the game takes about 20 hours to complete, and that daunted me. I'm not sure when the horror will begin. Do I need to play 10 hours of date sim before I get to the horror?
I understand your game is a hybrid but I think it brings up the question of pacing in a horror game. How much background building is needed? How much setup to make the player care about the characters before the first scare?
The horror comes at the end of the first 3-day cycle, about 1-2 hours in depending on how fast you choose to do it. After that you unlock a bunch of the optional scares that can be accessed by revisiting and re-checking things.
And 20 hours? Really? That's a gross exaggeration lol. 9-13 hours is the range I've gotten from players. I added that time estimate to the description after some people complained that it was taking longer than they expected (which I would have thought would be a good thing, but, hey...). I did plan on it being structured this way from the very beginning; make the game "safe" for long enough to get to know everyone and to lull players into a false sense of security before dropping the scary bomb. So I guess if you're not a very patient person and want your scares from the get go you're just not going to enjoy Prom Dreams. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
