QZPRODUCTIONS'S PROFILE

Just a game dev who primarily uses RPG Maker VX Ace and enjoys writing and composing the most. I love horror games, adventure games, JRPGs, and practically any game with a compelling story.

A brief description of my projects:

Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story (Complete)

A high school dating sim with a dark twist. While you begin the game as a normal teenage boy looking for a date for prom, you'll quickly find yourself in the midst of a bloody, horrific mystery. Gameplay is primarily story and exploration driven, with numerous surprises for those who take their time to explore, with a touch of macabre adventure-style puzzles.

Turovero: The Celestial Tower (Completed)

A traditional JRPG that slowly unfolds into a deeper, darker mystery (I think this is going to become a theme with my games...). Play as four archetypal heroes ascending a mysterious tower to defeat an ancient evil, only for them to find that things aren't quite as they seem. Gameplay is a mixture of dungeon crawling and turn-based battles with plenty of environmental puzzles to solve, as well as a choice-driven narrative with multiple routes and endings.
Turovero: The Celestial ...
A dark fantasy RPG where truth and lies collide and nothing is as it seems.

Oh cool, you started on Turovero?

That was a REAL fun game. :P

Yes, nothing but a pleasant, fun fantasy romp where nothing bad happens whatsoever...

[RMMV] Using Yanfly's Move Route Core - Softlock when using MOVE TO: EVENT X

Hey all, so I'm trying to make an event where when an item is used, the player runs up automatically to the enemy event chasing them. For this I'm using Yanfly's Move Route Core plugin and using a "MOVE TO: EVENT X" script, however when testing this, the game softlocks upon collision with the enemy event. Checking the "skip if cannot move" box does not help either, and neither does making it "AVOID MOVE TO" or "CRASH MOVE TO". I'm assuming that the game is trying to get the player on the same tile as the enemy event rather than having them stop right next to the enemy event and that's what's causing the softlock. Am I just an idiot and don't know how to use the plugin correctly lol? Thanks!

You guys ok with the Corona Virus/covid19?

IDK if this would be considered self-promotion or anything, but since people seemed to like my newest game's music (still don't know how it won that Misao!), I made a small remix single available for a $3 minimum donation to Direct Relief, which is getting PPE to healthcare workers in need of it. If anyone wants some tunes in exchange for their charity, you can check out a preview and see how to donate here!

The site doesn't accept donations larger than $10, which is why the instructions are a little convoluted. Sorry about that!

MISAO 2019 Results!

Hey, 1 award and 3 runners up, not bad! I'm extra happy to get the Summmoner of Sounds award because I worked super hard on the OST and had a blast with it. :D Thanks a bunch!!

Congrats to Lollo for taking the sweep, I'm glad your hard work paid off! <3

An itch.io user keeps wanting to convert my games, kinda weird

I got someone asking me about converting Prom Dreams to MV, though it was on Gamejolt rather than itch.io. They were pretty persistent too. Same person? :/

Yet another music composer taking commissions!!

So I've been considering opening up music commissions for a while now and I just now finally scrounged up the confidence to do it. Yay I guess? :D;;

See the YouTube videos below for samples of my work; I have two full game OSTs under my belt already and I'm ready to get back into composing!

For inquiries, contact me through PM or through my Twitter, Tumblr, or email. Thanks!!

internet's very much a visual medium these days.
This is one of several reasons I've resigned myself to never winning a Misao. XD

I'm not an artist in the slightest, and rely on the RTP or basic common resources very heavily. My work doesn't visually pop at all.

And while I AM totally going to commission a title screen for Mayhem Maiden when I (eventually...eventually) finish making it, that's not something I feel I can/should afford to do for every project. Especially since most of my work is for events.

I hired artists for Turovero for this exact reason. Prom Dreams (my first game) was kind of a drab to look at and that's why I don't think it got much attention its first year. It's gotten more since it's been translated into Spanish and featured on more LPs, but yeah, I'm a writing/music person, not an artist, and if you saw the concept art in Turovero's bonus room you'd know that XD

This echoes my feelings as well. I've tried my best not to beg for votes or shove it in peoples faces. The only Misao I'm actively hoping for is Summoner of Sounds since my game has a fully original soundtrack created by a friend of mine - I'd love to tell him other people loved his work as much as I do!

I wouldn't mind the honor for Turovero either, since the soundtrack is probably what I'm the most proud of for the game. Composing for it was so much fun that I'm actually going to start taking music commissions in the near future :D Good luck to you and your game my dude!

I think an event that is all about promoting YOUR misao candidate for the year is a great idea. Others can participate by doing reviews, let's plays, even a tiny MS reward of commenting on the game page could work.

-permit self promoting during this event because, the main objective of the event should be to round up a list of games to review for the year end misao awards.

...The harsh reality is that, yes, promoting your game for the misaos, is just as important as the game itself and we should be using these events as a way for others to constructively learn those skills required to do that. Sometimes, writing a simple blog post just to let people know that your game exists is enough. But there are also other, more constructive ways, to promote your game and people really should be using these events to figure out those strategies as well.

I think it would do devs a lot of good if they were told they COULD self-promote, because I've avoided doing so due to 1) self-promotion efforts on other platforms being largely a failure (Turovero has been out for 6 months and has only a few hundred downloads total) and 2) the feeling I would be seen as arrogant or conceited by doing so. The "if my game is really good, it should speak for itself, trying to speak for it would be arrogant" mindset, so to speak.
