QZPRODUCTIONS'S PROFILE

Just a game dev who primarily uses RPG Maker VX Ace and enjoys writing and composing the most. I love horror games, adventure games, JRPGs, and practically any game with a compelling story.

A brief description of my projects:

Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story (Complete)

A high school dating sim with a dark twist. While you begin the game as a normal teenage boy looking for a date for prom, you'll quickly find yourself in the midst of a bloody, horrific mystery. Gameplay is primarily story and exploration driven, with numerous surprises for those who take their time to explore, with a touch of macabre adventure-style puzzles.

Turovero: The Celestial Tower (Completed)

A traditional JRPG that slowly unfolds into a deeper, darker mystery (I think this is going to become a theme with my games...). Play as four archetypal heroes ascending a mysterious tower to defeat an ancient evil, only for them to find that things aren't quite as they seem. Gameplay is a mixture of dungeon crawling and turn-based battles with plenty of environmental puzzles to solve, as well as a choice-driven narrative with multiple routes and endings.
Turovero: The Celestial ...
A dark fantasy RPG where truth and lies collide and nothing is as it seems.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

I've been using a "fake it til you make it" approach regarding promoting my game (e.g. posting it on various sites, reaching out to LPers, posting in the official blog, creating side-content as though it was already noteworthy), which seems to be somewhat effective (I just surpassed 1000 downloads after a month of being released), but sometimes I wonder if I'm coming across as being too conceited since it's my first project and all. >_>;;

eplipswich Streams/Records Games! Open to Suggestions

Well, do you do horror games? And would you do a slow-build, exploration focused horror game that takes about 1-2 hours to get to the horror (out of about 9-13 hours total playtime)?

If so, you might enjoy streaming my game, Prom Dreams. You don't have to obviously, but I'll put it up for your consideration. :V Thanks!!

This game is really unique. I must admit, I -almost- didn't play through the second part of it, I thought it was a glorified New Game +. But then I decided "Ah heck" and when I found out it was so much more, I was surprised.
Not to mention the title screen changing as you go through the game? Epic. xD
Took me about 11 Hours to complete, myself, and I felt so smart figuring out the puzzles at the end.

Thank you for the awesome game! :D I've been suggesting this to a few friends, even.

Thank YOU for playing and leaving feedback!! Lol, you're the second person to nearly be fooled by the false flag endings. Perhaps I made them a little too subtle? idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks again; I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I hope your friends do as well!

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Just finished my first game but I have ideas for a few more (once my life gets less chaotic; a have a professional exam to study for and an upcoming move haha). These are the two most likely ideas I'd start on next:

  • A story-based puzzle horror game with a similar structure to Fatal Frame 3; the majority of the gameplay takes place in the MC's dreams while clue-finding and the like takes place within her house.

  • A short dungeon crawler starring four amnesiac RPG archetypes that quickly turns into a darker, more psychological story, which would change depending on your gameplay style.

Thank you again for the lovely review! In response to yours and some others' feedback, I'm actually making all of the game over dialogue skippable for version 1.1. :) I hope this helps dying not seem as cumbersome, lol.

It kinda sucks that you can't spoil the game in the reviews, because I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the spoilery aspects... >:)
Well, hey! I can provide that via PM! Believe me, when I penned this up, I tried slipping in a word or two to be clever hints, and I hope I did well enough on that front. :P

I'll swing ya a PM sometime this week and we'll gush over the game!

Awesome!! Thanks :D

I've the honor of saying that this was the first horror/thriller indie title I've EVER completed, and I'll state that in my review coming out sometime this week. :D

Wow, that's fantastic!! I'm honored!! :D

Thanks a bunch, and go play the other good horror games out there for God's sake! :P

Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story Review

Thank you for the wonderful review!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the game! :D

Regarding some of your concerns (Spoilers):

With regards to the one-dimensional characters, I feel like you may be talking about Claire, who was from the beginning intended to be one-dimensional (Unless you're not, in which case ignore me, haha). She is, after all, literally soulless. I realize this risked making her a tad boring, so I'm glad the other characters helped make up for it somewhat. :)

The objects you can't stand behind, specifically the counters, were made that way because objects on top of the counters would get cut off and using layering would have effected their interactivity. I'll be looking into fixing these issues for an update since I'm not a fan of not being able to walk behind things either. I still have some things to learn about VXAce it seems, so thank you for your patience about this!

As for the game overs, I would love to add an option that could skip them, although I have no idea how I could implement that. I'll look into it for an update; I definitely understand how it could get frustrating seeing the same scene over and over again!

Again, thank you for the review, and thank you for playing Prom Dreams! <3

[RMVX ACE] Music changing event tiles not working properly

I've gotten it to work a lot more smoothly with using two separate player touch events as well as spreading out the events a bit; I think the issue was the player reaching the "off" trigger events before the fadeout completed. It still messes up when you pass over the tiles and come right back but not when you pass through the area completely.

I'll also try shortening the fade times to 1 second to see if that helps.

EDIT: Shortening the fade makes it harder for the event to mess up but it's still technically possible. I'm thinking this is an issue with the way VXAce processes the BGM fadeout and not something I can fix myself, but the issue is a lot less likely to occur at least.

Thanks for the help!

I don't know why sprinting is causing a problem.
But I may suggest creating two separate events for player touch, instead of the condition a player needs to face a certain direction (I believe this could be a huge issue.)
Another way to approach this would be to have a common event always tracking the player. And when the player's X/Y is above a certain amount or below a certain amount you can put in the conditions.

I'll try these, thanks!
