Dunlop Cavern: Curse of the Eggnog

The method I used to make escape possible with touch encounters was to grant the player temporary immunity. In the If Escape clause of battle processing, set a variable (immunity) to the number of frames you want the player to have. Then set a self switch on. On a new page of the event, have the page conditions be that self switch being on and the immunity variable being greater than 1. This page is basically a parallel process that removes one from the immunity variable and turns off the self switch if the variable is equal to 0. You can also set the event to through if you want the player to be able to walk through them. Just an option for you.

I will definitely be giving it another go after you update it. :) I probably would have kept going with the previous game but for the fact it was well passed time for me to sleep and the save glitch. Let me know if you need help figuring it out.

Edit: While I'm on the topic of suggestions, the hardest / potentially most frustrating part about the game was getting started. Something to help the player out at the beginning might be nice. Maybe don't have them spawn until the player has opened a red room? At least then the player might have had the chance to save.

I actually didn't clue into the changing rewards from the shrines, though that makes sense. I pretty much used each boss item in the shrine of that area. I don't remember the names of what I got, but they were
*a healing spell that continuously heals you for five turns,
*a uniform that raised just my defense and allowed me to escape battles (it said something about being good against steel I think?),
*and an accessory that allowed me to save anywhere and I think raised my mp significantly, but it didn't mention it in the description.

There were a couple minor nitpicky issues with the first two. The healing spell didn't mention anywhere it takes MP. I mean, it's magic, so it's not shocking, but it got my hopes up when that text was green. And running away was actually pretty useless because it was hard to get away from the mob once you were on the map. I only tried once though because I was sick of fighting gumdrops that couldn't even damage me anymore. XD

As far as Red rooms, I think I opened all but one in the end. The steel hockey stick room was actually the first one I opened. I didn't have enough money at the time, but I went back there the second I had over 550. I found the hp/mp blessing room next, and that became my save hub for a loooong time. Even after I could save anywhere, I still kept going back for the free healing <3.

I'm rather surprised I never got a skill token. I beat up a lot of mobs. I think I probably spent around three to four thousand throughout the game, so that gives you an idea of how much I was fighting. I pretty much was perma using candles near the end looking for the bosses/gingermen.

Speaking of candles, were there any upgraded ones at all? I never came across one, but one that lasts longer or has a bigger range might have been nice, kind of like the 550 step cocoa.

I think I might have encountered a bug. When I went to face the deerman boss, I instead ended up fighting a regular deerman and did not get the special drop. As a result, I never got the warrior powerup : (

But despite that, I still managed this:

I also took out the psychic one. It seemed like as soon as I was tough enough to take these guys on, I couldn't find them anymore. I'm also not sure where you get the tokens for the skill guy.

Due to the save bug, I don't think I'll be picking it back up again until after it is updated. I think I saw most of the current content though? I spent about two to three hours on it tonight. The map really helped so that I had a general idea of where to go. Also that reference, hehe

Game Chill 2013

I think I shall start the stream in about an hour. So Noon MST / 2 pm EST / 7 pm GMT. I'll edit this post with a link once I'm about ready. I've never LP'd or even streamed before, so don't expect much quality. I also make no promises about harsh I will or won't be.

A little late, but starting in 5 minutes (quarter after the hour)

Well, stream is definitely a go for either tomorrow night or Sunday. I did some testing with Maki, and I was able to get a sampling of games (one Ace, one 2k3, one unity) running decent while streaming.

I work in the morning tomorrow and I don't know how tired I will be afterwards, so that will probably determine whether I stream Saturday or Sunday. I'll announce in here half an hour or something before I start.

I will say in my 10 minutes or something of having the games open, I've already "died." :\ I also did not bring my mouse with me and am very much regretting it. I might have to see if there is one I can borrow before the stream. I am trying to go into the stream mostly blind. I have not really looked at any of the game pages.

@Link: I've also made the change now, though I have not tested it. I'm glad you were one of the Ace users though, because otherwise I would have had to wait for the update.

Anyone know if Racheal's still planning that stream?
I work at 6 am tomorrow and I wasn't planning to stream until Saturday evening or some time Sunday. That is, assuming I can get it to run well. I did a test earlier in the week, and it didn't go so great.

Edit: Looks like 8 entries total? The 6 that got submitted to the page and then Link and Craze's in the comments?

edit: haha wow code tags look horrible on this event's CSS

That would be why I ditched the code tags.

Game Chill 2013

Well, some scripts give you the options in configuration. But if you're not using one of those:
Font.default_name = "fontname"
pasted in Main above rgss_main { SceneManager.run }
You need to surround "fontname" in square brackets, but I couldn't in my example :\

You can set other options for the font as well.
Font.default_size = 18
Font.default_outline = false

Stuff like depending on your needs.
Check the Font section of the Ace Help Contents for a full list.

With the fonts, do I make a folder called Fonts and put it along side Audio and Graphics? I seem to remember playing some games that had it like that. Or do I put it next to the .exe and they have to right click/install?

Yes, the font goes in a folder named Font alongside Audio/Graphics/etc. If it's in that folder, the user doesn't even need to install the font to view the text in game.
