I've...been working on my non-contest project. Whoops. XD Only need a solid two to three days to finish up my entry though, and I have some time off work coming up.

This game shows its age in a couple areas, but it still amazes me how the original came together in two weeks. I don't know that I'll be able to make such a non-linear story again. As for female leads, that's just a thing we end up doing largely subconsciously :3

Ethereal Dreams
The shop screen shows the status change compared to what that character currently has equipped, not the stats of the item. Darin starts with the Dragon Crown which gives 1 Defense, 3 Resistance, and 1 Strength, so helms that the first town offer are largely inferior. Basically armour is terribly designed in this game.

Drie - Party Skill Sets
I can't say how similar or dissimilar it is to Romancing SaGa because I've never played it.
The faces do change based on certain conditions. They flinch when hit, look hurt when in critical health, and are unconscious when HP is zero. They might also change for certain status effects like sleep. The previous blog had an image where Hansel was at full health. He's just easy to pick on for screenshot purposes because of cover and provoke.

We Need A New Anime To Watch. Suggestions?
I'll start by seconding everything on Sailerius' list. I've seen and enjoyed a lot of the same shows as you, so I'm going to suggest some of the shows I've enjoyed in the last few years. Terrible descriptions ahead.
I could probably think of some more, but I'll leave it at that for now.
- Tiger & Bunny - The premise is basically superheroes meets reality TV. It's a lot more than that though.
- The Devil is a Part-Timer - A funny show where the devil gets stuck in the real world and has to get a job to pay rent.
- Blast of Tempest - This is by BONES, the same studio as FMA, Soul Eater, and Wolf's Rain. It's not their best work, but despite a lull in the middle, I enjoyed it. Two boys on a quest for revenge, and they might just save the world in the process.
- Blue Exorcist - The devil's son becomes an exorcist.
- From the New World - This is a bit different from everything else on the list. It's kind of a mystery series with a little bit of a horror element? The inconsistent art style is probably not for everyone. This is probably my best friend's favorite show that's aired recently.
I could probably think of some more, but I'll leave it at that for now.

I'm also in the not making a horror game camp. I don't really know the first thing about that genre because I'm just not a fan.
Based on the work yesterday, I'd say the scope of our game is actually closer to a two-week project than a month project. It means could be more impressive than it's going to be, but at least we should have no problem finishing. Plus lots of time for testing and polishing.

Super duper productive day today~ Couple more like that and we'll be done a week early.
Let's see...
-Designed and databased every enemy/troop. <3 Still need to design the specific skills for said enemies though. </3
-Made/edited tiles for the opening map.
-Wrote a first draft of all but the very end.
-Evented the first scene.
-Gathered some possible music.
Still no closer to that elusive title though.
