Release Something! Day IX: something about cats: Discussion Thread

@GRS: The intention for the full game is that any main story event can be triggered with any character, it's more a, you can choose who you'd rather walk around as and learn more about. (Also later, each character with have a unique map skill, but that's not implemented yet)

The battle test is accessed by talking to Joi (green hair) with Kettill (brown hair, purple poncho.) Talking to her with any other character produces helpful tid bits about the battle system.

Maybe it's because I don't play these types of games very often, but it took me a few minutes to figure out I had to "Use" the door to enter buildings in tAoMG. Sounds silly when I type it like that.

Edit: I managed to finish the game. It was short, but enjoyable. One thing I have to wonder though, and I might go back to test, was there multiple endings?

@Cray: I do agree. That will get fixed up when they get shaded, eventually, ie the pot.

For your screen, the text and solid black outlines on the text and bars looks out of place compared to the soft outlined tileset, but otherwise I like.

Edit: Oh, top of the page. Obligatory quoted repost time.

This is what happens when you replace the party with characters with questionable moral standards for the tech demo.

@Ocean: That links pretty neat. I enjoyed reading through it.

@Rei-: Overall I like the map. The sunbeam is a nice subtle effect and not in your face like some. I wonder if the stairs should extend one tile further down, but I could just be interrupting the map wrong.

Ethereal Dreams Early Tech Demo
Game Page: Link
Download: Link
Download is a stand alone VX game, no further downloads are required.

Please note, all graphics, sounds, and systems are very much WIP. For example, while the enemy is fully animated in battle, none of the players are. All RTP animations, icons and sounds are placeholders.

What are you working on now?

Testing my RS release to death, after finishing up all the events and such today. Next step is to make the file size as small as possible. Sitting just under 12 MBs right now, but I'd like to see if I can shave off one or two.

I've always meant to sign up for one of these, but I get distracted for one reason or another. I suppose this is my last chance, so sign me up for an early tech demo build for the overhaul of Ethereal Dreams.

"Selling Feature" of your game

Ideally, I'd love for the characters to be the main selling point, but I know in reality it's the original graphics.

But that also includes games with no downloads. Unless you go completed games, and then you miss out on demos.
