Unreal Engine and CryEngine are now cheaper than RPG Maker
author=Liberty
Ah, but do you get fully licensed, royalty-free resources with the engines? That's at least half the cost of Ace right there, so...
Personally, I wouldn't mind cheaper, but resource-less version of Ace for which I can buy RTP later on if I really want it. I tend to use custom resources anyway (yes, my current project is RTP-based but all other will use custom resources), so RTP is pretty much dead weight for me.
Followers Control
I have troubles using this script. I have event set up like this:
<>Script: control_follower(2) #ctrl third follower
<>Balloon icon Player, Exclamation, wait
<>Script: control_follower(3) #ctrl fourth follower
<>Balloon icon Player, Tear, wait
However it shows wrong icon, for wrong event. It works like I'd put:
<>Script: control_follower(2) #ctrl third follower
<>Balloon icon Player, Tear, wait
Instead of showing exclamation on 3rd follower, then showing tear for 4th follower, it shows tear for 3rd follower. My party has four members at that point of game.
I even tried to put little wait between the two because who knows, maybe it needs a frame or two to "update", so it now looks like this:
<>Script: control_follower(2) #ctrl third follower
<>Balloon icon Player, Exclamation, wait
<>Wait 2
<>Script: control_follower(3) #ctrl fourth follower
<>Balloon icon Player, Tear, wait
but it had no effect. I suspect a bug in the script.

Yeah, delay in ms doesn't mean that game will run at 1000fps. It just mean more precise timing for your game. As a developer myself, having experience with various engines I should know.

Perhaps he want to make it stand-alone? Because gmRPG requires rather costly GM Studio (okay, I snagged GM Standard when it was free, but normally is very costly).
Anyway, IMO most important "RM Killer" project you should have your eyes on is Open RPG Maker. While only half of work is done (editor is basically complete aside few rough spots in database, no engine though), engine is way on its way towards completion and developer always deliver what he promises.
Unfortunately development moves on slow pace (which is understandable given complexity of such software) to the point I once thought it is dead, but developer delivers updates sooner or later (ETA for basic engine - no battle system - is May or June, something like that don't know exactly).
OpenRM is much more than Enterbrain's product and in fact all features listed here are either planned for it, already implemented in editor or something better is offered.

Just kidding. IMO best NES game of all time is Mr. Gimmick by SunSoft. This is the only NES game that I know of that has Box2D-like physics. Though like with most Sunsoft games it is hard as hell. But it is so cute!
//edit: And I also like Pyramid by Sachen (but only first one). IMO cool spin on Tetris formula.
