Video- On Worldbuilding: Place Names

Good stuff. Though it's pretty apparent that naming places is the final step in a long list of tasks that need doing to build your world.

This guy has a lot of vids that cover some interesting subtopics in worldbulding and writing. I'm definitely gonna sub and check out a few more. Thanks for sharing!

A Fond Farewell to Yanfly

None of my games would be the way they were without Yanfly's script.

Fun fact: Playing around with RPG Maker and Yanfly's scripts was actually my introduction to programming. Yanfly's scripts were so well organized that it was easy for me to understand how exactly each script worked and what my little changes here and there would do to the function. I had so much fun messing around with scripts that I was inspired to pursue an education in game dev, and I now code for a living.

I owe Yanfly a lot, and I wish him nothing but the best in whatever he decides to do moving forward.

[PODCAST] RPG Maker Cola

Neat! I'll give it a listen when I get the chance.

The first RPG Maker Cola podcast episode is dropping midnight EST. A spooooooky October 31st podcast, discussing horror gams with JosephSeraph & Frogge. Future episodes will drop weekly from there!

Spooooooky!

Like design of this heroine?

Since I know nothing about the character in question or what a "Combat Coder" is supposed to be or even what aspects of her you're on the fence about, here are my impressions of her based solely on her design:

- red hair I usually attribute to someone with a more fiery, active personality, but having it tied in a ponytail indicates some level of sophistication.
- Combine this with her calm smile, pose, and DBZ scouter and she projects an aura of self-confidence and intelligence.
- Her armor isn't bulky or all encompassing, so I don't get the impression that she is a shock trooper. More like a scout, field commander, or software specialist.
- Her outfit is very clean with no visible rank emblems or personal effects, which tells me she's either a fresh recruit or a loyal, by the books soldier type. This same outfit looks like to could be put on any other person and not look out of place.

So those are my thoughts. If what I said is mostly true, then her design is fine. If I'm way off the mark, then I'd recommend taking her back to the drawing board.

The Story is Complete

Thanks Cash!

Optional Alternatives - A Different Substitute

The only structures I can think of are various unholy amalgamations of the structures already listed out. Final Fantasy XV, for example, was structured something like this:

You can move between the open world and hallway section after a certain amount of time in the hallway, but once you start to go down that hallway, that becomes the new forward progress for the rest of the game. If you're feeling dangerous, then you could open it up by giving players several hallways to choose from:

If you're feeling particularly mean, feel free to replace one of the ending green dots with a red one.

Radiant Historia attempted a structure akin to this:

Here, you have two hallways that you could swap between at will. It's not exactly a branching path because these hallways are two very distinct storylines that have their own beginnings, middles, and conclusions, and you must complete both of them to finish the game. Moments in each storyline required you to either make choices that could result in progress or a bad end, or slam you against a wall and require you to jump to the other hallway and make progress there.

So glad to hear that things are progressing so well, and getting the main story locked down is HUGE! :DDD I am so exicted!!!

Sounds like you still have a lot of work to do, but getting something so big out of the way will hopefully be a huge motivator!

*: Christ, I actually went back and reread my January blog and am cringing so hard at how I let all this time go by. Let me reiterate my earlier statement that I'm more critical of myself than anyone else could be and, anxiety or no, I am frankly embarrassed at the promises I make and consistently botch. Someone slam a pie in my face, because I feel like such a clown.

If I've learned anything about game dev, it's never to hold devs that do this as their side hobby to deadlines (myself included). Life's just too random, unpredictable and messy, and planning these things out is a shot-in-the-dark guess at best.

What I'm trying to say is not to be too hard on yourself ^_^ It happens to the best of us.

Thanks, unity! It's funny: I always tell people not to be too hard on themselves whenever they get like this. I'm really bad at taking my own advice.

Congrats my friend!

PS Jan until now is nothing. It took me from like Nov to May to finish my thing and it was like 99.7 percent done in Nov.

Thanks. That final .3% is often the longest percent to get through, huh?

Whooo! Congrats on getting to another milestone!

Thanks!

Inching ever closer to being complete. I'll promise rainbow text when it actually is!

Motivation has now increased by 120%!

This is big news! And now's the perfect time for refinement. It's all easygoing from here!

Here's hoping!

Congrats! Game done is an important milestone, and seriously don't feel bad over not wrapping up the whole entire project by 2019. Unless game design is your full-time job or you've promised a crowdfunding audience a completed product by X date, game design deadlines are goals, not requirements.

Y'know, there was a time when I seriously considered attempting a Kickstarter for this game. After everything I've been through, I can't be more glad that that I decided against it. The pressure to deliver something would have been too much to handle.

Don't worry Liberty! You're still #1 in our hearts!

Too bad my heart was banned.
