STORMCROW'S PROFILE

>look StormCrow

You see not a bird but an American lady who likes other ladies. Oscillates between shy as a mouse and babbling violently, seemingly at random.

I like badasses. I like babes. I like badass babes the best. Okay...actually I like doggoes the very best, but I aspire to make games about badass babes is my point.

I use music from bands and artists in the free games I make: the frustrated filmmaker in me is very enamored of scoring scenes with rock'n'roll soundtracks Scorcese or Tarantino style. In addition to being a time honored tradition in cinema, this has a history in AAA videoogames as well (for a really great use of it, see Bioshock: Infinite). If I was a millionaire, I'd totally license these songs so I could actually use them legally.

I think the only thing I haven’t encountered is bestiality, and that may yet get patched into the final release.

I really must insist this get included.

Ohhhhhhh random quote generator RMN tagline list, I think we've got a winner here!

I think if the content was massively cleaned up to remove any form of 'rape' or 'gross orgies' feces

I crave to forcibly introduce Lefttongue to the entire cinematic ouevre of Mr. John Waters in order that they might gain a sense of the history of the grotesque in cinema--and by extension art, literature, media, and videogames.

IOW: people these days can take their collective squirmishness (you meant squeamishness Lefttongue but I can tell English isn't your first language) and cram it up their butts sideways.

By the way, this shouldn't be seen as a fan of the game defending the game. I played a much earlier build and was very impressed by it but I held off judgement and I am very much holding off judgement still. What I'm defending is the legitimacy of the grotesque in art in general, which is being called into question.

Besides the general edginess of the game, which I have played, I am not not sure what cued in Mr. Wombats or anyone playing the game that "Show Love" was a euphemism for rape. I'm still v. unclear on that point.

i want you RIGHT NOW to think for JUST A SECOND about the number of times in your life you've heard some variation of Darkness1.wav

I have probably heard Darkness1.wav at least 5,000 times in my life. The basic structure of the sound effect hasn't been altered since 2000 if I'm not mistaken. It might be even older. It's really fair to say that for two decades of gammak now now I've been listening to Darkness1 while considering it for hundreds of animations or a sound effect in dozens of different cutscenes for dozens of different games. It just struck me as very surreal how big a part of my life that sound (and other RPG Maker staple sounds) touches and how much nostalgia juice is involved

I'm musing about changing one of my game's title's into a different one that's in Spanish. Ya gotta ask nowadays: is that cultural appropriation bad no no etc? And on the other hand, am I being overly self-conscious or is it just pretentious af?

In hindsight, I felt kinda stupid even worrying about this. That's a big honking precedent, even if that series was first booted before the world got quite so sensitive as it is now about these matters.

I mean, as much as it can be for a game set in a dark fantasy world mostly modeled after the Balkans during the middle ages, Under A Killing Moon/La Curandera is "about" the Spanish Inquisition, and considering how that hooks into related topics like the treatment of women and indigenous peoples in the Northern Americas during the era of the Salem Witch Trials, I mean, arguably it's sort of wedged into a place where it contacts the tension between Spanish (as in Spaniards) culture and language and indigenous cultures (Curandera for instance is a specifically Mexican word; the European Spanish equivalent, Bruja, has slightly different connotations as well as a different ring) and that stuff gets into some sticky wickets, but hopefully it's clear that my motive here is not to caricature, mock, or attack Spanish speaking people.

EDIT: TL;DR: are you using spanish to make spanish people sound/look stupid? no? then it's fine.

Cultures take from other cultures all the time, all throughout history. Are you mad that the Japanese use English all the time to make things sound cool and foreign? I'm not. It's funny when they get it like HECKA WRONG, but I'm never offended, why would I be? I think it's a made-up concern, basically.

If ideas and concepts were locked in the place they came from, and unable to change, the world would be dead and boring. For that matter, Nothing is original, just remixed versions of something from before. In Short, it's all good.

The only time you would need to be concerned is if you are using something culturally and boiling it down into a negative caricature of some sort. But honestly, you wouldn't do that, or you wouldn't be asking this question.

TBC, I'm on the same page as you.

However, I've seen stories of Japanese-Americans and other Asian-Americans getting very angry over stuff that seemed perfectly innocent and harmless to me, like people wearing Kimonos or costuming as Geisha on Halloween or whatever. I don't love the fact that we live in a time where if you're a reasonably kind of sort of culturally sensitive person you feel the need to ask this stuff...but we do live in just such a time. And nothing can ruin your day faster than a pack of outraged culture warriors.

Okay so smoked a bowl right before engaging with this post, fair warning.

So, this is essentially a thread about branding. If I didn't need to turn creativity into cash with a fast-turnaround Here's how I perceive some people's branding, but you need to understand, all of this is skewed by over a decade of inside baseball You can't unknow how the sausage is made. I think the sausage is games in this analogy? fuck I'm high.

I'm really going to date myself here because like most of these people are retired or semi-retired. This information is like way out of date probably.

The Kentona brand to me says two things: a)retro and b)vast. Huge comforting nostalgia sandbox classic 16 Bit RPG Gameplay + Expanded Freedom Of Choice.
fucking brickroad: asshole. extremely good at designing Legend of Zelda style dungeons. kinetic cypher is a masterclass. prick.
Craze: only cares about numbers.
BlindMind: perfect beautiful screenshots of which it looks like a game has finally at long last been created as an accidental byproduct of ;)
I kid I kid!
that guy who made ara fellBadluck: gorgeous mapping invoking sky vistas of genuine beauty
Anaryu: technical genius groundbreaking genre bender animu leanings pretty people pretty things bullet hell shooter/rpg dating sim hybrids or whatever
unity: full-throated sapphic lust I mean character driven dramedies in mostly conventional form, except when they aren't. cute art, cute characters, cute everything.
Liberty: I can't make a statement on her game design because she's made way too many games but her personal brand is "don't take no shit from nobody"

I am ashamed how unfamiliar I am with the collective oeuvre of the people posting here. I don't think I've played more than a couple hours of Hero's Realm even but I don't doubt it's a classic.

I Natter On About My "Brand"
I haven't established my brand correctly, and I don't know who's played which or any of or how much of my games. One of the idk is it five games I've released in one form or another is totally unrepresentative of my brand, and it also happens to be my least played game by far. By FAR. Like, my other completed game on RMN came out two months earlier and has more than 10x the downloads. So I guess I should be glad that one is slightly more representative of my brand, simply in that it's darker.

Here's how I want my brand to be perceived. UNCOMPROMISING PUNK ROCK is half of the brand I want to establish, just super anti-authoritarian rage and what I've seen referred to as "fuck my parents" anarchism LET'S FIX SOCIETY BY BLOWING SHIT UP. The other half of my brand is DARK AND MORALLY COMPLICATED. Which has been my default mode of drama since before artists like George R.R. Martn THE default mode of drama.

Now, crucially, the third half of my brand is PLAYING WITH PERSPECTIVE AND SYMPATHIES. Wait a second.

Did I mention I'm bad at this?

Road To Paradise has the second and third halves but not the first.

Live Free Or Die has all three aspects of my brand. If I were whispering at the shoulder of an imaginary

My current project definitely has the second and third halves. It remains to be seen how much it has the first half.

it also has a fourth...half...? (wow did I say i suck at this)a witch is unchecked sapphic lust muahahaha. rampant lesbianism in a time of burning witches. shit, that should be the short description on my game page when I making one.

[IG Maker] Ten years later, what is the community's verdict on IG Maker?

*literally hasn't gotten around to trying it*

*hides*

Edit: actually I also tend to forget IG Maker is a thing for long stretches of time, much like OP.

Yeah, icbruisers comes up for me from time to time and Chrome won't let me go there. That's definitely a virus.
wait. isn't icbruisers.com ankylo's personal site also hosted on this server, for his hockey team and/or hockey fantasy draft?
o.O
You're asking me?
it was more of a rhetorical question, to myself. Do you know what rhetorical means?
Rhetorical, relating to or concerned with the art of rhetoric.

Rhetoric, the art of effective or persuasive speaking. Language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience.

It's better to be a smart-ass than a dumb-ass.
The proper response to this query is "Do I know what rhetorical means?"

ed: oops double post.
