Umbral Soul

Not in this game, but it needed to be there in preparation for the sequel. It's a pretty important part of the story.

And I tried so many times to get a reaction out of that Manor - or their daughter that the bandits kidnapped. Nope. Figured there might be a ransom to collect, was really hoping for at least a cutscene taunting her or her parents.

Nope. Guess she's just a low-level quest and/or party member for Team Good.

... I liked Azrielle. Poor guy. Partly because I'm partial to mages, especially in RPGs where mana is effectively infinite. And partly because I actually found him the most interesting of Pandora's four human(-ish) allies:
What with him being a demon, literally made of evil and bound to Ragnarok, showing up even in Jeremy's flashbacks; but the few times we saw past his bluster, it looked like all he REALLY wanted was to be a good king to his people...
.

Unreasonably excited to see where the sequel is going; while the actual gameplay mechanics aren't that strong (everything very easy; did not even come close to the stated goal of making us want to use a bunch of summons, let alone rotate them in and out mid-fight...), the tone, atmosphere, storytelling, and ESPECIALLY the characters are at the very least among the best I've seen in RPGMaker; and like others have said, up there with a lot of cherished professional works.

Which members of Team Evil are going to be redeemed? Which, while still being puppy-kickers, will eventually turn on Lord Ragnarok? Which will be The Best Boss Fight(s) Ever?
My speculation: Marcus turns good after getting a little understanding from Team Good. Damien and Gryger both get taken out - Damien's death causing some angst in Our Heroes when they learn his backstory, Gryger not so much, as he's the only totally non-sympathetic ally in my book. An uneasy peace with Azrielle and the demons; probably after fighting him and Lanith, possibly the Maids, Rozalin, etc as earlier fights. And no freaking clue what's going to happen with Pandora ... I'd swear that several times, especially after sidequests, her talk of revenge *included* revenge against Ragnarok...
... but anyway, it's a testament to their characterization that I'm still wondering "what's going to happen to them?" And my faith that, unlike say Square-Enix, I won't be sorry I asked.

... well, that's good to hear about Talon. Seeing as he captured Miss Sullivan, and Sullivan Manor is right there on the map, unenterable ... you have no idea how many times I went back to that dungeon to see him, to see if I could trigger anything. Collect a ransom for her. Taunt her parents/husband. 'Rescue' her, show them, then spirit her off to MY dungeon. Nope.

Chronicles of Tsufanubra

Replying a bit late:
I did find the optional bosses challenging. My only legitimate total-party-kills in the game, when I hadn't made an obvious mistake, were against the Meadowmite party and Olivia's Shadow. The rest I managed to nab on the first try, though the very last was painful.
Figuring out that the warrior meadowmite both did the most damage and was extremely vulnerable to gravity helped; Olivia I just barely scraped by the second time, before she buffed herself too much. And if I hadn't managed to land a Corrosion on Genocidia in the first round, and have it stick, I'd have died with her still at 75% or so.

And I know you've asked others what they thought of the Big Reveal right before the final dungeon:
I was in fact suspicious of the Elder for much of the game; and was absolutely certain once I got the Point of No Return message. He and Veryl were the only two NPCs that ever encouraged Celes to find the relics; often using similar words. His name was Evan - if Breath of Fire has taught me anything, it's that my actual real name always goes to the villain in 16-bit RPGs. He seemed to be the only human in the setting old enough to remember the Holocaust; which initially made me think he might at least be sympathetic to the kjrn. Once we saw that Veryl looked completely human but was a kjrn, I even half-suspected Evan of being one as well. This would imply he also wasn't Celes's grandfather - or more interestingly, even though it didn't play out that way, the possibility that Celes wasn't human herself. I hadn't gotten as far as assuming the Elder murdered her real family though; and the whole one-soul-two-bodies thing came out of left field...

Chronicles of Tsufanubra

Almost makes me want to poke a whole bunch of other random things now :)

But I finished last night, super-mega-boss and all; almost wish there was something worth using that Eradicator on, though I suppose its fitting Celes got to keep it...

Very enjoyable! I ... probably wouldn't grind out all the 100% clear items again (especially the one in the final dungeon, far after hitting the level cap, for 'only' 3 more divine tears). The story was very interesting; especially after I realized I must have played the original DF at some time.

(One criticsm - some of the cutscene animations REALLY drug on, and detracted from things. Especially all those times Yoor would say "...", there'd be a 5 second pause, Lifa would say "...", 5 second pause ... then Sando ... then pause ... then Celes ... then another pause ... then "!" from Celes ... then a longer pause ... then "<3" from at least one person ... well, you get the idea. REALLY galling the few times I lost to a boss and had to sit through again...)

Chronicles of Tsufanubra

Hmm. You're ... probably going to regret that. Turns out the bonus boss, Hades, is on the same tile as that 'reward'. (Though he only drops a scythe I never bothered using, and if the spoiler page is to believed, isn't necessary to slay to unlock the mega-boss)

Chronicles of Tsufanubra

I found something I don't think I was supposed to.
I went back to Cerberus's Cage, where I had just fought Vlad and Veryl. (What can I say; other games have conditioned me to return to the boss room to look for loot, even if the heroes are scripted to leave immediately.)
There wasn't anything there ... but when I poked at the altar ... the third stone from the left ...
Everyone suddenly gained about 6 levels, and got unceremoniously teleported to the next town. Some remnant of testing?
I didn't save afterwards; who knows what that might break ... but still...

Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

Thanks for the recent mention of taking Ramona around to open all the locked doors once you get her back. I managed to stumble on the Thunder Sword doing so ... talk about a Disc One Nuke, it's almost one-shotting everything in the dungeon I was supposed to go to next, and making exploration of other places I shouldn't be possible...

Umbral Soul

Yeah, I found the Sacred Sanctuary. It's good I didn't miss anything major. Though I'm sure I missed a LOT of funny lines; going around Azrielle's castle with different party members was always good for a laugh.

About that last battle:

Yeah, I saw the snippet saying: "Go ahead and give up now" - thing is, it came right after I found the combination that would probably work. Pandora WAS grossly overleveled - 42 I think? I gave her every single Dharc Draught in the game, and she was present all those times I tried levelling up summons. If I replay this someday, I might just treat Lanith as a permanent party member, and neglect all the other summons as much as possible ... certainly wouldn't try to level them all up to 20 or so to see what they learned.

Umbral Soul

Just finished playing the game, wanted to drop a line and say it was amazing. Very glad to hear there will be a sequel.

Two questions (well, 3, but you JUST answered that I can't get into Sullivan Manor no matter what; you have no idea how many times I tried to talk to Miss Sullivan...)

First - if I filled out the full list of scenarios/cutscenes, does that mean I found all the major content? I went through constantly worried I had missed something, seeing how I almost missed several quests along the way, and a number of cities wound up *cough* sort-of destroyed.

Second - and a bit of a spoiler:

I actually beat Athena in the end-game, in the fight with just Pandora and a level 15 Abomination. It turned out Pandy's group healing spell is just enough to (eventually) pull it off, and the not-levelled monster did just enough to out-damage her healing. I did get a nice chunk of XP, but the text afterward made it sound like I lost the fight. Was that intended? Any thought of adding some variant text?
