WIP'S PROFILE
I made this site and it's awesome. But I don't run it anymore. Now I'm just a plebe like you.

Okay I am leaving
I am pretty sure the time has come for me to relinquish my dictator reins of RMN. My personal interests have shifted over the years and this site really doesn't do much for me these days. I am not really active and mostly just make sure things aren't horribly broken.
I am going to leave Karsuman in charge of things. He's a purist asshole like me so it should work out okay.
I am going to hang around and fix bugs and generally just make sure that the site doesn't crumble away. But as far as being part of the community and running it, my ship has since sailed. I still have the keys to the kingdom in case it goes horrific directions, but I don't have any plans to use said keys.
I would like to give a personal thanks to a few people:
kentona: Thanks for putting up with me for so long. You have good ideas that just never meshed with mine! Perhaps some of them can be put in place.
Magi: For having the resolve to somehow keep going through the submission queue. It's awful in there.
Solitayre: Oh the delightful drama you have caused. I love it.
SFLaValle: Thanks for always alerting me to things going on with the forum.
Others: Try harder so you can be on Karsuman's personal thanks list when he bails. :D
No, I am not bailing to go build a new site. I will be keeping my admin status for a few days and then will revert myself into a normal, podunk user. Ah, the free life.

Update Notes (9/11/2010)
The site got updated today! Hoo-rah. Here's a few tidbits.
Good
-The comments and forum systems were integrated together into a general "posts" system. You can see every user's post in their profile now.
-The user profiles were significantly altered and should be much more pleasant to use.
-Game profiles now support custom logos. See example here: http://rpgmaker.net/games/2/
-Game tag interface was significantly updated. It should make sense now!
-Frontpage is prettier!
-You can delete PMs now!
-Bunch of internal optimizations for submissions.
Not as Good
-A lot of user notices got wiped out. Due to the way comments sent notices and some general wonkery, I had to delete a good amount of notices. I didn't like it either.
-You actually can't set a custom logo for your game yet. It's coming soon, though!
-You will need to rework the CSS on your game profiles for the comment section. The IDs were changed to "posts" instead of "comments".
-The links for "Latest Image" and "Latest Posts" on the frontpage don't work yet. The latest images are also not really optimized yet.
-Posting new topics gives an error but still posts the topic.
-Breadcrumb gobblegook on the forum. Showing breadcrumb on the bottom in a bad spot, and doesn't work properly anyway.
-Hosted downloads are broken.
-Locker is busted in numerous ways.
-Locker files cannot be set to private or deleted.
-Mailbox problems: sending messages, opening messages.
-Broken image uploader for games.
-Pagination has some weird URLs, but still works.
-Notices are not being sent properly and can't be accessed either.
-Articles can't be edited.

Upcoming RMN Update
Hey guys! It's time for another RMN update! What do we have today...?
1) Numerous places of the site have been touched and tweaked to improve performance. Some of you may have noticed some server outages lately and I am hoping to constantly bring down the performance hits on the server. I don't like them either.
2) In my ever expanding crusade to ruin everything you love about the internet, the site will internally work with comments and forum posts as the same thing. This will help me AND you. You'll finally get to see comments in a user profile.
3) Speaking of user profiles, they have also been reworked to be less ugly and have more information. There are also perks for moderators in here that is none of your damn business!
4) This merges the "user" pages and "account" pages together. It all works much better.
5) Frontpage tweaks. I am removing the Game Tag area on the frontpage since it's kind of dumb. But I am also removing random images because it is somewhat more taxing than it needs to be. Instead of these elements, it will instead show the latest blog posts, downloads, and images added to the site. These will hook into a kind of blog post/download/image "news feed" thing that lets you view all that junk together. Basically the replacement for Screenshot Topics.
6) Other stuff I can't really remember.
When will this occur? Most likely this week. I can't say for sure, but definitely this week!

Why aren't there more tutorials on the basics?
Well? I was just messaged by a "noob" who was trying to get started with RPG Maker VX. And we don't have a single damn tutorial for them to learn from. Nothing explaining switches, tutorials, events, etc. Things that people would need to know to make a game.
And you guys wonder why we have people making such incompetent garbage.

Samus Art!
I didn't have anywhere else to post these, but they are amazing.
http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=samus&order=9&offset=72#/d2dw1ng
A few liberties with suit design but very very well done. I like the angularness added to the suit.
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=samus#/d2sn0ey
More traditional suit design. Colors remind me of Chozo locations, which I guess is very fitting. Pose is great.

Nintendo 3DS?! (March 2011)
Nintendo announced their next-gen handheld today. Backwards compatible with DS/DSi software. Will do 3D without special glasses. PR follows:
My take: probably involves the rumors of Nintendo going with NVidia's Tegra platform. They will need considerably tougher hardware to do anykind of stereoscopic display. Rumors have been floating around about devs having new DS hardware for a bit, with game dev cycles estimating to done at the end of this year.
I'll totally buy one. I have felt miffed by my DSi since the day I got it due to some physical defects.
Updated Info
Nikkei
- control stick instead of dpad
- rumble
- improved wireless speed and battery life
- screen that is smaller than 4 inches
- timing on the announcement could be related to decreased software releases
- Nikkei expects release in second half of 2010
Yomiuri Shimbun
- "it is believed that the system will use a Sharp 3D LCD panel."
- this 3d tech is acheived by placing a small film on the screen, which is separated by a small space. The slight differences in the image creates the 3d effect
Mainichi Shimbun
- software developers have been briefed on the system
- third party software at launch
Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch "Nintendo 3DS"(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.
"Nintendo 3DS"(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series", whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.
We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

Updated Podcasts
I updated the site's podcast system so it supports multiple podcasts, such as RMNCast and Shinan's Interview Series.
I also made some significant changes to the RSS feeds for podcasts. The main feed has been relocated and now each specific podcast has a feed. Links to these feeds are on their respective pages.

Game Tags
I have went ahead and replaced the old Game Genre system with Game Tags.
You can specify up to five tags for your game. The first batch of Game Tags you see are genre tags, which are more broad than the other tags. Most of the old genres were converted to genre tags.
Besides the genre tags, there are also things such as MULTI(multiplayer), DARK(dark), and thanks to geodude's pestering (thanks dude), multiple tags for sci-fi, futuristic, and so forth.
Post here if you run into any problems. Also yes the interface for them is crap right now. Use Ctrl + click to select multiple tags.

Frontpage Tweaks
Most will immediately notice the disappearance of random images. I figured showing a feed of game updates would be far handier and a better use of space.
The Latest Games section was also changed to be more of a "these are the latest games you can play RIGHT NOW". It is created from the latest downloads on the site.
I am still not entirely happy with this yet. Please leave your thoughts and feedback on it!
