How did your first game turn out?

I've been making demos and system tests for over a decade. I found an old CD of my first games and they're pretty shit. "Your first 10 games will suck" is actually true. I recommend practicing with demos. Don't focus on trying to finish a game, but to understand and test concepts. You'll have more fun that way too. Technically, LandTraveller will end up being my first completed game, although RPG20XX is my first "complete" project (game engines and toolkits are never complete).

The official English 2k3 version is out!

whenever someone mentions extensive cherry patches or dynRPG i just imagine a sega CD and a 32x stacked on top of the genesis.

Perfect analogy. Just buy a fucking Saturn or a Playstation. The remakes of both Lunar games were actually enjoyable.

Does anyone here uses Novelty?

You don't need an engine to make visual novels, you can write your own easily. There's a ton of silly flash games that are all just pictures and click targets with branching effects. Almost all the work is in the illustrations and writing anyways.

RPG Maker 2000 Value! Is now out in English!

These are generally for the nostalgia. They're outclassed by pretty much all the modern engines existing today. They're for you having fun making a silly RPG, but for higher caliber RPGs intended to be enjoyed by many, there's a lot of modern options that aren't ancient and full of duct tape (it has a ton of patches, hacks, etc.) that generally reduce performance and stability just to get it working on your machine.

Instat Out

I've submitted that much content? RPG20XX's going to end up being most of the website even though little have heard of it.

What is Tactical RPG Editor?

What is a "Tactical RPG Maker" supposed to do, exactly?

RPG Maker 2000 Value! Is now out in English!

Because it's got an ! mark after "Value". Oh and a + too.

On a more serious note, some people like the turn based first person view because it requires less resources to make for. When 2003 came out, some people stuck with 2000 because it was hard to find good sideview battler characters.

This is the collision debug view. I said "test rays" because there's an actual Ray command, but I'm doing an arbitrary test ray to test the command. There's an invisible parallel event offscreen calling Ray constantly.

This view will be helpful if you're going to use any of the collision commands so you can see where they're actually winding up. It would probably drive you mad otherwise. It will be set to F9 in the next release.

Windows 8 and RM2K3

I remember API calls that handled movie playing for you and a demo that came with an old version of DirectX that showed off playing a movie file as a texture to a cylinder. You generally don't ever want to decode movie files yourself.

Weapon Editor

ARPG option sounds like something totally bombastic to add.

That and I get asked about pixel movement all the time. So its gotta go in.
