I use RPG Maker 2003 because if I'm going to make a game using RPG Maker it might as well be the one I have fond memories of. If I want to do anything more grand I can just program it myself in C.

With every game...

You need to start your game and then you'll get people that might say "I want to help you with this and that"... if your game looks promising...

Voice acting in games

post=90270
I heard of an app that takes a voice clip and "16-bit"-itizes it so that it sounds like it'd be from an SNES game. I wish I knew what it was because something like THAT would work great for these SNES-era games we pump out. At least better than straight-up voice acting.

It's just a reduced sampling rate. You can do that with Sound Recorder even, just open the WAV, save as, and change the format. Typically you would use some low KHz and 8-bit resolution. Perhaps even 4-bit, I don't know what the SNES did for waves. I know the GBA used 8bit if I can even remember. Been forever since I programmed a GBA.

Please reserve voice acting for games that are high enough resolution for sprites to have facial movement, thank you.

You've never played the Lunar games for SegaCD or the first Grandia have you? It's easy to tell who's talking from that big box with the speaker's face, expression, and dialog. The old Lunar games had terrible English dubs, but you only had to hear it during a few scenes.

The 9 things that I have learned from the RMNCasts

3. I kind of disagree with the pauses thing. A little, I mean. Occasionally I use the \| command. It's short, and I barely notice it. Most of the time the characters are just talking and you can assume they're hesitating or whatever from the use of ... and in their actions.

8. As for long intros, I like a long intro myself. But I don't just have the player watch a huge opening, I like those kinds of intros where you immediately have to start playing. Look at FF7, there's only a short movie that ends with people jumping out of the train. The whole background to what you are and what you're doing is revealed through the fight across the first reactor.

You've got story and dialog, but you also get to play.
