New Policies for 2014: A Public Service Announcement
That was the other saying my mom always preached to me, and I thought about applying that as well. But really, it's not so much silencing the other person so much as getting them to at least respect the other person's opinion, no matter how much you disagree.
Either way, though, both sayings really apply. We don't have to like somebody or their opinion, but we don't have to call them names, either.
Yeah, no. Please no. I think the forum has really progressed over the past couple of years and shouldn't be judged by a couple of bad examples.

maybe I should just delete the forums

Final Fantasy XV
author=LockeZ
I am legitimately looking forward to Final Fantasy Type-0 though. All the videos of Type-0 show meaningful and relevant political intrigue, dramatic depictions of war, and characters being sent on important combat missions. This paints a stark contrast to all the videos of FF15 which show wandering directionlessly through vast expanses, camping in the wilderness, and running past wild animals hoping they won't randomly attack you.
So it's not just me. It's way too early to dismiss FF15, but from what I've seen so far Type 0 will make up for gameplay what FF15 makes up for in looks. That's not to say Type 0 will look bad by any means, just that so far it seems the hype around FF15 has mainly been about the look and style.
Hopefully both games do well for SE, and I wish them the best of luck. If it's successful, Final Fantasy could branch into 3 separate styles - Bravely Default for the traditional turn-based, Type 0 for the action rogue / mission style, and FF15 for the more Western action style.
Unfortunately, Bravely Default may soon be forgotten and Type 0 hasn't received enough attention outside of being "the game that included the FF15 demo", to the point that the success of the franchise relies heavily on FF15's success. If FF15 tanks, I've a feeling people aren't going to say "Well at least SE gave us Type 0 and that proves their competenance". Most likely, they're going to shrug and say SE is a terrible company with no sense of direction and will steer clear away from them, while at the same time forgetting the current classics they have produced.

It could all be summed up into a single rule that my mom always told me:
"Play nice with each other and remember, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
If people would just rememeber this and practice it, we wouldn't be having these problems. But too often people think difference of opinions means resulting to insults and mud slinging.
Leave the insults out, no matter how minuscule they may seem. You'll probably have better, meaningful discussions that way when you're not constantly worrying about being on the defensive or offensive, or having to reply to posts that want to derail everything.

Let's all just remove gender-specific insults from our vocab when posting and instead use non-geder specific terms.
So instead of words like:
"cunt, whore, dick, prick"
We use:
"asshole, asswipe, bastard and so forth"
Or maybe better yet, perhaps we can just try to avoid insults all together. Mayhap we'll have some meaningful conversations that way and may actually learn something about each other.

Good Excuses to Get Out of Doing Homework

To teacher: I would have done my homework, but I was busy arguing with some kid who said you weren't the best teacher in school.
Or even better. I was gonna do it, but I was busy coming up with excuses to get out of doing it.
Final Fantasy XV
I don't doubt it will be a phenomenal game in its own right, although calling it a Final Fantasy game while looking at the past may have some people in an uproar.
However, I do wonder if it's being over-hyped for what the final outcome will be, and whether or not it can live up to the hype. Most importantly, I have concerns over the demo that will go out, allegedly months or years in advance of the final game, considering the full game is only 60% done.
If the demo comes and goes, that hype will die over time, especially if the length of time between the demo and final game get pushed into years instead of months.
That said, a demo should be there to build hype and showcase the final game, but comments seem to indicate otherwise:

1. You will only be able to walk and run. One of the main attractions in this game is the use of cars and potentially airships. You won't be able to demo the car mechanic, and airships are still undecided.
2. Progress of the demo won't import into the final product, and story elements will be at the end. So you play a 3 hour demo that won't be transported to the final game. Does that mean the demo is a prologue, or does it mean the player has to redo 3 hours worth of game play in the final version? Also, if story elements will be revealed at the end, what's to keep the player's attention for the first 3 hours of running around?
3. You won't be able to experiment with weapons in the demo. Since story seems to be vague, and it's not clear what the focus on the demo will be, and you can't play around with cars, and it's not known whether or not there will yet be airships, that really leaves combat. And considering this is promising to be a unique experience in the action rpg genre, you'd expect to have a bit more to play around with and experience in a demo. I can see limiting the amount of weapons, but not allowing any kind of experimentation at all seems folly.
4. The graphics and other technical elements will be even better in the final game. That's the exact quote on the article.
I realize a demo is not the final polish, but it should showcase the primary aspects that will encourage a player to buy the product and at least include some o the main themes its promising. Hopefully people go into the demo with an open mind and realize its a taste of things to come, but I fear the demo will only generate more hate.

A new way to Review

If anything about the site's scoring system were to change, I'd just want to get rid of the half-stars. Damn pedants and wishy-washy fence sitters!
I'd be fine with getting rid of the 1/2 stars if we went to a 10-star rating. To me, there is a big difference between a 2.5, a 3, and a 3.5 star rating.
2.5 to me means subpar, not extremely terrible but not all that good.
3 to me means average. It's okay, not great, could have been much better.
3.5 means above average, far from bad, but there are things that could make it better.

My point is that when the rules are specifically written in an exclusionary way, it implies that protection is only afforded to specifically enumerated groups and that anyone not mentioned isn't deemed worthy of protection. Why not instead say that degrading gendered language isn't acceptable?
^This^
Let's leave anything degrading out regardless of the person or situation. I think the rules could be simplified as such to say that anything degrading regardless of race, sex, politics, or religion will not be allowed. Make it bold font so it stands out. We don't need a multiple set of rules for different genders...
Edit:
In regards to concerns of Free Speech, I'm surprised this still comes up. Freedom of Speech generally applies to government persecution. But it still doesn't guard you from consequences, and there are still restrictions in place.
You can't shout bomb on a plane or fire in a crowded theater. Going on to social media and making terroristic threats will probably get you arrested.
Privately owned sites like RMW can still ban you for certain lines of speech, you can still be fired from your job, etc.
