Perfection & Secroma Review

No problem. I hope the review was more encouraging than it probably seems, so that you make more mystery-themed games. I also think this could have a broader appreciation if you ever decide to expand on this game.

Noble Quest

After I defeat the Warden, I can't leave. It says the door has been opened and for my party to get out of there, and that's it, and my way back is blocked.

I'm assuming then that's where the current demo ends. Which is too bad, because I was really getting into it. Hopefully you are still working on this, because we need more games like it.

Fuck Christmas

I hate all the sentimental shit with Christmas. Every Christmas movie is terrible. The music is even worse.

But I get to hug my dad :_(

Except for A Christmas Story. That's so classic, it's "fragile".

After trashing my 11th RPG attempt, it finally hit me: I suck at balancing.

Better too easy than too hard. Keep that in mind.

Yep, it seems it's always easier to increase the difficulty than to scale it back.

I don't care for extreme difficult games. I just don't have the time or the patience. But I do like challenging games that require a bit of thought and strategy to get around obstacles.

Hell, an RPG doesn't necessarily need battles~ As long as there's some kind of conflict to overcome and gameplay mechanic to provide a challenge. ^.^

One of the best RPG Makers I've played was Dawn's Light: A Christmas Tale. All puzzles, no combat whatsoever, but was still a load of fun.

Commercial or Not Commercial?

Some games have started as free and then the dev changed their mind later on. In those rare cases not much you can do. But the earlier you decide the better since your fans and potential customers will develop expectations based on what they see. If they are led to believe it is free but then find out later there is a cost you could lose more than had you been upfront to begin with.

So, it's finally happened.

"RPGMakerVX.net is undergoing repairs. We will update you when more information becomes available."

Bah. That's just a euphemism for stating that the site has finally died. What a shame. I started to make a name for myself there.

Oh well.
Could it have migrated to this, though? http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/

Not necessarily. Ace and VX.net have been running side by side for awhile, but iEntry has never owned Ace. Whether the members of VX decide to migrate there or not is up to them. We do support VX over there, but I think most preferred the separation because it gave people a place to go if they wanted VX and another if they wanted to learn about Ace.

In any case, the "down for repair message" has been there for awhile, so I'm sure the site is gone. The only comforting thought is it's the last RM site (that I'm aware of) that iEntry owned, and I hope all of iEntry's sites go belly-up and they go bankrupt.

What is a Challenging RPG?

I usually find puzzle rpg's (like Wild Arms) to grant a bit more challenge. These come, of course, in the form of puzzles, even if the combat is easy enough.

And now I fear we can add VX.net to the list. Everything iEntry touches gets ruined.

FF1 now on 3DS. With mode-7 all over.

Man, Mystic Quest had some sweet music.

Final Fantasy 1 was great for its time, but it's not that good of a game. It didn't warrant one remake, let alone two (or is it more than that now?). I'll join the updated Final Fantasy 7 crowd: current gen graphics, faster combat, and a proofread script. Yes. Give it to me.

I almost agree with you... almost. I personally think the PSX version was warranted, since it allowed us to revisit the game we grew up with, but in a style that was reminiscent of the SNES era. But each release after that hasn't offered much.

Now we get it in 3D. I admit, at one point in life I wondered what it would look like in 3D, but I can't help but think this is a wasted effort, because no matter what, the story (or rather the lack of it) will probably remain the same. I'm big on both stories and game play in rpg's; even Final Fantasy II (NES) featured a much more epic plot).

It might have been better had they created a game from scratch using the first game as a sort of base for an idea, but how often does SE create games from scratch these days?

Favourite classical FF tracks?

A lot of the old classic Square and Enix games had outstanding music, so it's near impossible to find favorites. But Terra's Theme stands out amongst them all, especially the remixes you find.
