You're able to relay complex concepts one at a time if you play your cards effectively.
I agree also the player feels more reward when figuring something out(even if its obvious and the only thing they can do) rather than being told exactly what to do.

Next time edit the new image into your previous post when there haven't been any posts afterwards. Double and multi posting are against site rules.
No problems ;)

I needed a few days off from the Grimoire so I whipped this together.
A crap 2D minecraft clone.
Mining works and you can place blocks of stone.
Made using the RPGToolkit

Just got simple combat working in the Grimoire of Worlds.
no real stats involved yet just 1 hp attacks(enemies have 3 hp at the moment)
Still have to work on the enemy model as well(I'm just using a white cube at the moment)

It partly depends upon what you are making.
If you are going commercial then you need to listen to what testers say quite a lot(you cant please everybody all the time, so if a majority likes something it could probably stay) but if you are making a game because you want to make YOUR dream game then why change it to fit other peoples dream game?
This is the dilemma I have with the Grimoire of worlds. It is my idea of my perfect game but it is also going to be commercial so I have decided that I will make it how I want(its my dream game after all) If I lose sales because of that then so be it. I have accepted that possibility.

Is it possible to make a good game with only one player and a turn based battle system?
I guess the point is that its just easier to make a battle system with multiple characters because the tactics and choices to offer the player is obvious but that does not mean its impossible or even overly difficult to make a good single character battle system. You just need to think and work on it a little more.

@Glasses I love the way the level unfolds like that but maybe a slightly larger field of vision would be better.
Looks awesome though :)

not read all the comments so sorry if this has already been mentioned.
In a way pokemon is a single character battle system. I know you can switch pokemon in battle but you still only fight with one.
That system could be taken to a single character battle. The character could switch abilities mid battle giving new strengths and weaknesses
For instance changing sword during battle from an ice sword to a fire sword would change your stats from
Attack element - Ice
Defense element - Ice
weakness - Fire
to
Attack element - Fire
Defense element - Fire
weakness - Ice
this is of course a very obvious view of changing abilities you could have skills that have split abilities.
this whole system gives a little more strategy to an overwise very boring battle system. Especially when facing multiple enemies with different strengths/weakness
Imagine facing the dragon with one fire head and one ice head.
Another idea is a second turn per round I used that in the wizards tower as that is a single character game.
