Has anyone figured out how to doa Tactics game in RPG Maker?
Apart from the fact that PS1 FF Tactics is a 3D area and so rotatable everything is possible in RPGToolkit, I would be very surprised if VXAce couldn't achieve this as well. But I am unfamiliar with how VXAce works so I can't say for sure

I don't know about RPGMaker but classes/switching jobs would be easy in RPGToolkit(with a little bit of programming)
Tactical battle system would be hard but not impossible, somebodys doing a TBS at the moment with the toolkit

Im sure the same can be done in RPGmakerVX ACE I hear ruby is pretty good

Need help finding a good RPG Engine for ths type of game.
Although its not an rpg engine I think Unity would be your best bet, but you would need to learn some programming with that.
Which RPG Maker should I use?
I know this is a little late and you've probably already decided but f you have no money to spend the RPGToolkit is a good choice.
The default battle system and graphics are pretty bad so you would need to replace them. but it has a very functional easy to learn language built in for making custom menus, battle systems, ect

@Grindalf: A few things to keep in mind: For the shadows, try to avoid using a darker color of that one you're using as a base. It makes things look a bit dull if not dirty. If you're using blue, for example, instead of a dark blue try a purple-ish color. Likewise, don't use white for the lights. Notice how the light around the torches is white, when it should be a yellow-ish, red-ish hue... Also, yeah, try to give the same shading to everything. The character and the carpet don't look too well with just flat colors like that.
Thanks for the tips, especially the torchlight color. Its so obvious I almost feel stupid :P
I'm new here but pretty experienced with RM2K3

I was going for a slightly megamanish style(hence the huge feet) I wasnt going to shade the knight I know that sounds strange as he stands out as a different style but when its playing somehow it feels right(maybe its just me :P)
you dont like the gradient on the floors :( I really liked the floor and pillars(apart from the top of the pillars) do you mean the circuler gradiant on all floor tiles or the gradiant on the edge floor tiles?
torches are animated, the light flickers slightly :)
