Rhythos RPG Builder - a Free and Open Source Dev Tool

I like this. Definitely going to donate as soon as I get paid :)

Seyken

I don't know if you guys notice this or not but the funding mode is 'Flexible Funding', meaning it's pretty much like putting a Paypal donation button with some goal. Whether they reach the goal or not, they will still be taking the money.

For those who don't know, Indiegogo operates a bit differently from Kickstarter. They allow you to choose two types of funding, which are flexible and fixed. Fixed funding would be the same as Kickstarter, which is if you don't reach the goal, you get nothing. For flexible one, Indiegogo take some percentage of the money, and the rest of whatever you raise from the campaign goes to you.

To me, this looks like someone wanting to make an online version of SD3, which would explain why the name is Seyken (I mean, who would be stupid enough to pick this name without thinking that people would be reminded of SD3, while making EVERYTHING looks like SD3?) This makes me think that the reason why everything looks so much like SD3 is because it's intentional and the only way they don't just use SD3 directly is because of copyrights bs.

And I'm all for making new variations of the old stuffs. It's still creating something new. Someone might have always wanted to play MMORPG version of SD3. And regardless of whether they use similar graphics or edits or whatever, they still have to spend time on the game. And if someone value what they are doing or want to play what they are making, I don't see why they can't be asking for money.

Anyway, seeing as the game is available for playing, I'll try the game if I have time and see if I like it or not. Too bad it's an MMORPG though. When I first saw this from twitter, I thought it was a standalone game :-/

Seyken

It's an MMORPG though. Story is not usually a strong point of an MMORPG game.

Seyken

Reminds me of Seiken Densetsu 3 and I think that's probably intentional, considering the name is also similar. Looks really awesome. Added to my watch list so I'll support it in the future :)

RPG Creation Without the Price Tag - some restrictions apply

No script editor is a turn off for me though :/

Where do you get original materials for your project? Post about it here!

Since I got the art part cover so I don't usually look for art resources on the web.
Audio, on the other hand, is what I'm lacking. So here are some links for music resources that I use.

Affordable Audio for Everyone
- Not free but it's pay whatever you want. The quality is really good, and there are many files in one pack. It's worth it, I'd say.

Oh! Thank You!
- So many free awesome music in so many styles. They are all free with an option to pay them to say thank you. Otherwise, allt hey ask for is the name oo39.com in your credits.

The Match Makers
- The home of Japanese doujinsoft's sound effect. So many doujin games use sound effects from this website. It's free, and you dont' even have to give him credit. Though, I'd suggest you do anyway!

Going in Blind and Preparing for Combat

I think you already answered the question yourself. Just don't do it every fight. Also, making the player learn something from getting a game over is good too. A great example of this is Soul Shepherd.

In Soul Shepherd, you can become the enemy, thus whatever you see the enemy's using, you can use it too once you defeat them. Hence, getting a game over mean not only you learn what the enemy does, but also what you will get from that enemy.

Also, while enemies are deadly in that game (the game is really really difficult), for random encounter, it's possible to survive without getting wipe out. There is also a save point before you enter a new area, warning you that you are about to enter an area where new enemies will appear, and might require different setup.

Death of child too much for a game? How dark/mature can I go?

It isn't that problematic, considering any sane person know that murdering anyone is bad. There is no murder apologist, at least not to the extent that it becomes problematic to murder's victim or people associated with the victim.

@alterego
Would you please stop it with the straw man arguments? Just because someone can take something out of context doesn't mean you can invalidate every comment. You should analyze it first and see whether it does hold any water or not.

Nobody said the game represent all transexuals in the world. But it contribute to damaging their image. Same goes with Mario. It doesn't represent that all women are helpless and are rewards for men, but it contributes to that idea. Now that we know which side of the scale the game has added the weight in, we have to look at the scale in the world today. Like I said, making fun of people who are wearing glasses is fine, because they are being treated equally. But it isn't the same case with transgender.

This is not about freedom of speech at all. Calunio is free to make a game however he wants. Nobody said he can't. The comments are meant to point out what the game lacks and could be improved.

Anyway, I'm out. I think I've explained everything already. Don't feel like repeating it anymore :-/

I agree. Too bad for a game with a theme with so much potential though :/ I thought the battle system was creative, though it could use some tweaks.
