Are any of you guys in a bad financial situation?

I've been living in a very tight spot for the past year or so, because I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

You're probably already doing this, but I've found keeping an excel spreadsheet of monthly outgoings, splitting up necessities (bills, rent food), against money left over and other outgoings, makes a world of difference. Things are still tight, but I'm able to put £200 into my savings each month this way.

What makes a game worth making?

Ultimately, because you want to. Even if you don't do what you set out to, or even if you outright fail, it's experience under your belt.

It Moves

I really look forward to seeing how this develops. Graphics and sound design are both excellent, you've really succeeded at creating an unsettling atmosphere. You've quite a way with words, as well!

I do agree with badperson's critique, examining some of the objects only to be told 'it's just stuff' feels a bit too vague in my opinion--but that's just a niggling thing. The writing for the main narrative is really enjoyable.

Legality of easter eggs

Sega famously got in trouble for including a lengthy boss battle with Spiderman and Batman in Revenge of Shinobi.

So yeah, be more subtle than that and you'll be fine. LockeZ's example is what to go for.

Video game tunes that get stuck in your head often?

This has been in my head almost constantly lately, and it makes me laugh a lot. What a rendition!

Opinion on Fangames

This is just a little aside but it's an amusing tale nonetheless:

I used to be in the ZZT (MS-DOS object oriented game engine) community and this dude made a Final Fantasy fangame...that plagiarized the entire first two hours of Suikoden 1, line-for-line, character for character. The guy didn't even change any names.

The game ended pretty abruptly once you free the bandits from the corrupt government official. It was meant to be continued (probably for the rest of the entire plot of Suikoden), but the guy went to jail for murder before he could make any more.

And that's why you don't make fangames.

Moon: Remix RPG Adventure (or Moon)

the only game that matters in my life right now

Nice one! Have you played any of the other Love de Lic games? UFO and Lack of Love are fantastic.

Opinion on Fangames

I dunno. I just think leave somebody else's IP alone.

Buuuut look at something like Kentona's Generica or Hero's Realm, or Ocean's Paradise Blue. Those are unabashed love-letters to Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, but they are each original in their own way and excellent to boot. "Fan's games", certainly, but not "fan games". Dig?

That said, I think UPRC's FF Blackmoon Prophecy titles are pretty solid, for the reasons he's mentioned above.

Making a game that's purposely "bad"(YMMV)

Kuso-Ge has its place. Follow your heart.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

By the way Atlus, where the hell is SMT4 for Europe? Are you waiting until I play through Persona 3 Portable, Soul Hackers AND Devil Survivor OC first? That is a lot of SMT games, sure(actually, that is quite a lot of quality gaming right there, but I WILL get through them eventually, especially P3P), but some release date would be nice.

I think Nintendo are publishing, and are currently localizing it into various languages. I feel for you--I'm in London but I bought a US 3DS when the game was announced in Japan, anticipating a long delay. It's totally worth waiting for though, easily one of the 3DS's best games and one of the best SMT games too.
