Beginnings and Endings: How to Write the Hardest Parts of your Story.
I always thought that coming up with the beginning and the ending of a story is one of the easiest things to do because it’s one of the main factors that you first often think of when first coming up for writing your story. It’s always the filler parts and everything else that’s in the middle that always seems to take a bit longer to flesh out for me, because I’m not sure if all said plotpoints are either unnecessary or considered too much to be of any significant importance to the story or the characters as a whole…but I guess some writers are different than others. But, yeah like Sooz’s said - it really depends on the narrative.
I remember when I first wrote the storyline for one game that I have that it initially started off as something that I just put together rather loosely just for the sake to see if a story mode could possibly work for a game like that. When I reached the end of the story on my first draft, I remember enjoying it so much and that there was so much more that I wanted to add, change and alter after spending some more time with it that I went back to the beginning again and started touching it up and added a lot more to the story to flesh it out and make sure that it made more complete sense from all points. I ended up going through four drafts in total before finally settling on what I thought was acceptable for it. And I like to think that all of those rewrites of the story was totally worth the effort that I put into it. It also helped by bouncing different ideas off of others and constantly thinking of new situations and things for the storyline that I could add or fix during all those boring, slow days at work when I had nothing else to do or think of, lol.
But, yeah, it’s generally a good idea - and wise - to come in with basically a rough plan of what you going to tell in your story. You should have a basic idea about who your main characters are, roughly about what’s going to happen throughout the course of their journey, and their end goal or whatever happens to them at the end. Taking your time and brainstorming different ideas – and even coming back later down the road after some time has passed to fix up and clean up some of your plotpoints, which you can do at any time – is greatly appreciated and will make your story stand out way more.
Sometimes making the story up as you go along can sometimes be a good thing if it works rather well for you. You may write yourself eventually into a bit of a corner at times, but a good imagination and sense of direction can get you out of any mess. And, of course, you can always go back and change some things throughout the course of the story once you’ve fleshed it out more yourself and have some more ideas to add in.

Some of these guys sure look awfully plump. I thought that you have to be at least in somewhat adequate shape to become a hero?
- But these battle sprites sure do look nice. Good job, Avee! :)

Note to self: Never go in the sauna for an hour and then right afterwards take a ninety minute walk when it’s just as hot and smokey outside
Yeaaahhhh…that wasn’t a very smart idea on my part. I nearly collapsed, lol.
Thankfully, though, I was at least smart enough to bring a water bottle and a towel with me. Without those, I’d probably be knocking on some random people's doors like a lunatic asking if they have any water to spare or running through other people’s lawns that have their sprinklers still on.
Either way...next time, I’ll go in the sauna AFTER I finish a walk. That was just beyond way too stupid. :/

BIG BIG changes coming soon! In the meantime, here's a slime.
You tease. You should just tell us all this news already instead of trying to butter us up like that by showing this magnificent slime creature...
…which looks totally great, BTW. Good job, JosephSeraph. :)

Statsman: The Golden Circle
I wonder if there’s ever a chance that Hero’s Realm can one day ever take back the crown as the most top viewed game on here sometime in the future? I mean, Pom has pretty much died off by this point…(unless it gets a sequel announcement or something) but Hero’s Realm will continue to be on the rise thanks to the upcoming remake that's going to be done sometime down the road… Oh, and I can’t forget about Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy as well, as that also has a chance of taking it someday thanks to its own remake coming soon.
And I guess CashmereCat and Ocean are getting pretty close to the illustrious 10k club themselves, as they’re both pretty close to reaching that incredible feat soon. (Only a couple more submissions to go, you guys!)
As for me, I REALLY gotta get off my ass and get to the bloody 6k mark, already. It’s been months and months since I’ve been stuck there in 5k limbo land, and all I really need to do now is just submit one stinkin’ review to finally get there. So my mission for this month is to submit a review and finally get to that goal in September, as I gotta stop being so lazy and stop putting it off.

Umbral Soul Review
I can’t believe that this game now has seven different reviews with a perfect five out of five score for each one. It’s an amazing accomplishment, that’s for sure. And I can understand why you’re absolutely jumping over the moon there, bud - I would too if I had this many good scores and feedback!
- And I didn’t know that you reviewed any games on here, Sphere! Does this mean that you’re gonna be reviewing more games in the future???
EDIT: Lol, I didn’t mean to post THIS many times on here but I guess RMN must have crapped out somewhere along the line and I got four extra posts that I really only initially attended to be just one. *sigh* Oh well, we'll see if Liberty or Kentona can fix this mess up later...

So…What’s Happening To The What’s Written Section On The Front Page, Anyway?
Ah…so it was YOU who was slacking! For shame.
But it sounds like from what you’ve told me that you have a pretty good valid excuse for doing so, so I forgive ya.
And, hey – would you look at that! Everything’s just got a sudden makerover the next time I managed to login after posting this thread up. Yay!!! :D
Hey, we've had a few new articles submitted in the last couple of months. Hell, even Kentona wrote one, so I'm not sure what you're smoking (but can I have it?)

That said, we don't get many articles so that's a thing.

Townlore Review
Well, at least the revision of Townlore that GreyInvidia posted up a few years ago (that you can find here) is a bit marginally better than this version, as there are a few more additional things that you can do in it compared to this one. But, yeah, either way, I just didn’t enjoy the idea of having to change my internal clock settings every few minutes in order to progress through it, and there’s really not much here other than some trippy visuals and that one jump scare that you get later on.
For creepypasta standards, the game isn’t too bad, but for a game as a whole, well…there are just so many other better options out there available...like Dreaming Mary, for instance.

Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy II
“50 hours minimum!?” Jesus… The last time I played an RPG that was that long was Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time, and that game took me even longer to finish on my first try!
This is gonna take a little while, indeed.

So…What’s Happening To The What’s Written Section On The Front Page, Anyway?
So, yeah, it’s been an awfully long time since our last writing feature had been announced on the front page now…almost four whole months since the last time it changed! (Jesus, f**k, you guys...) And not only that, but the latest pic of the moment and RMN TV sections haven’t been updated in more than a month for each one! (Someone’s been slacking it off, it seems.)
Now, traditionally for the site, the writing feature, along with the pic of the moment and video sections usually change every week to two weeks or so depending on submissions and such. Since I’ve come back to the site regularly since 2013, these sections have been changed and altered pretty frequently around here, with usually no longer than maybe three weeks tops before any of them happen to change. The staff here have been pretty regular in the past when it comes to dealing with that, so I’m a little bit surprised that it’s taken so long for any of these to change lately.
Is it because there aren’t enough quality submissions that are worthy enough of being featured? Is it because of whoever’s in charge of doing it is being lazy and / or taking a break in the meantime from doing it? I mean, I usually don’t complain about these types of things too much if it takes a little bit of additional time around here because some of the site staff here can get pretty busy with things and such - but four whole months to change at least the writing feature is a bit unusual…and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.
I mean, it can’t be because we don’t have enough quality submissions. It can’t be.
So what’s the real story behind all this sudden backlog? I’m sure it’s nothing too serious, and I may be overexaggerating things a little bit here, but it would be nice to know what’s going on with it, at least.
