NHL 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs / Pool Prediction Thread

Yeah…it’s bit of a shame that the Senators couldn’t manage to pull it off in overtime and make it to the finals this year, as I definitely would have preferred a Senators and Predators series for sure - but, *sigh*, oh well, at least the Predators made it in…and that’s still pretty good, I guess.

Also, I’m not sure why the first game is going to be on a Monday instead of a Sunday instead. Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense to have the first game of a Stanley Cup Final start on a Sunday where there’s going to be a much larger audience be able to watch it? The NBA’s Finals are like that too this year as well, where the first game is on a Thursday and not a Friday or a Saturday instead. Stupid schedule, ugh.

I’m hoping Nashville takes it just so we can have a new cup champion this year, but my brain and gut is telling that Pittsburgh will probably repeat as champions again (...lame).

The easy solution for this is to submit your brackets in private to whoever is running it (aka you). Once you get all the brackets you can post them for public viewing. Don't allow changing a bracket after you made them public for the reason you posted above, even if it costs points it can be worth it to keep a lead. Repeat for each round.

It's true that this year it was a nailbiter to the end but after Pittsburgh won that was the end of it. The Edmonton/Anaheim game didn't matter and neither do the last three series. I don't mind the format but I do think it'd be more interesting if every round was something new and fresh. Poor first round choices removes a player entirely, new picks each round means they can at least keep playing and even have a chance at a comeback.

Yeah, we should probably do something like for next year to try it out for a change and see if it spices the game up a bit. Maybe even get rid of the double points multiplier for cup picks as well?

Either way, for next year, before we begin the next pool, we can discuss any possible format changes when the time comes, alright? In the meantime, let's just enjoy the slaughter. :)

While the overall package wasn't a heavy hitter, Breath of Fire IV had some pretty rad ideas that I think are worth revisiting.

Geeze, I feel like such a minority person by not entirely hating really liking Dragon Quarter.

Don’t let Liberty hear you say that, Marrend, or she’ll cut you.

You better run for the hills, now.

buzzing *-*

Hey, no problem, it’s natural to get a little excited when you see your game on the front page like this.

Just soak in the moment, my friend...soak it in as long as you can.

Man, I’m so disappointed; I really thought that this was going to be the Capitals year this year, but I guess not... I’m guessing the owner of the Capitals must be hitting the booze real hard right now, lol.

But congratulations, GreatRedSpirit, you did it again...despite the Flames and Blue Jackets being long gone before the end of the first round.

And, hey, I managed to get the same number points that I did last year with 14, but at least I came in third place this time around compared to fourth place last year. Progress!

As long as I beat Kenton, I'm good.

Hey, you did. Congrats!

Kentona had the worst drop off in points this year out of everybody: he had 22 in 2016, which was good enough for 2nd place overall, and went all the way down to 6 points total this year for last place. If Edmonton had managed to win tonight, there then would have been a small chance that he could have gotten more than 10 points to finish off the pool and maybe even passed Hexatona and Shinan for 5th place overall - but alas...that was not meant to be.

Although maybe next year we should change up how we do it to do each round as it comes instead of the whole thing all at once. That way it isn't over before it's halfway done.

The only problem that I see with doing that, with picking teams before and after each round and not just picking them all at once like we’ve been doing this whole time, is that the player or players in the lead coming into the conference finals or finals might just pick the same teams and number of games as the player or players below them in the standings that are still mathematically in it to reassure them the win. At least with picking them all at once, there’s a greater chance that type of stuff won’t happen, so I like how things are currently going right now. Besides, this year came down to the wire in the second round between half the players in the pool, compared to last year were it just came down to just two, so I think this type of format is still working pretty good.

I have been thinking of a possible addition we could do for next year where before the start of a game 3 you get two last minute changes that each player can use to switch out the outcome of your picks or use one of them to change the number of games a series will go to. The only downsides are that each last minute change you use will cost you a full point off your total, and you only get two of them for the entire pool to use, so there’s a bit of strategy of when or where to use them. Do you save them for the second round or beyond when they’re hardly any teams left, or maybe try to earn a ton of points off your Stanley Cup pick in a particular round by changing the correct number of games to something else? Either way, it's still a work in progress idea that I have, but it’s something that I was thinking about maybe implementing for next year. But I'm open to any ideas or possible suggestions.

Game 7
Pittsburgh 2 @ Washington 0 - FINAL

Playoff Pool Update:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have managed to avoid the collapse of being up three games to one and hold on by defeating their arch-nemesis, the Washington Capitals, in 7 Games, and now move on to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Addit is the only one here to receive any points in this matchup, as he receives a Bonus Point for predicting that Washington would at least make it to 7 games in this round. And since Washington was his Stanley Cup Pick – The Points Here Are Doubled For 2!

Along with the Penguins moving on, the Anaheim Ducks manage to just get by the Edmonton Oilers in a hard fought 7 Game victory to move on to the Western Conference Finals.

Ankylo & Shinan both receive 2 Points each for predicting that the Ducks would win that series. Cap_H also picks up a Bonus Point for predicting that the series would at least go to 7.

And with all that being said - congratulations, GreatRedSpirit, for the second year in a row, you are the Pool Predictor Champion for 2017! Despite a shaky start with both your Stanley Cup Pick being eliminated in the first round, along with your other finalist being eliminated as well early on, you managed to claw your way back and pick up some valuable points towards the end of the second round to pass Cap_H for the victory. Well done! You’ll be receiving your Brent Burns Beard Award achievement as soon as possible.

- The full bracket and standings have now been updated!

NHL 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs / Pool Prediction Thread

I’m a bit late on this, but whatevers:

Player Pool Update:

The Ottawa Senators have just punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals by defeating the New York Rangers in 6 Games.

GreatRedSpirit is the only one who predicted a Senators win, and receives 2 Points for his prediction. GreatRedSpirit also picks up 2 Additional Points for 4 Points Total for correctly predicting that not only would the Senators win that series in 6 but that they would also move on, too.

GreatRedSpirit is now currently in the driver seat with a grand total of 20 points coming into what may be the final group of games to determine a possible winner of the pool.

- The full bracket and standings have now been updated!

All right…so here’s how it goes for tomorrow:

  • If the Penguins somehow avoid the collapse and beat the Capitals tomorrow in Game 7, Addit, Ankylo and Cap_H would all then be officially eliminated from contention, and GreatRedSpirit would win the pool flat out right there, regardless of what happens in the Oilers and Ducks game.

  • However, a Capitals win combined with an Oilers win would then officially eliminate both Ankylo and GreatRedSpirit from contention, setting up a final showdown between Cap_H and Addit for the title in the next round.

  • And, finally, a Capitals win combined with a Ducks win would then officially eliminate Cap_H from contention, and it would then setup a three man race between Addit, Ankylo and GreatRedSpirit, with the next round determining the winner (or winners) of the pool.

Gentlemen…I wish you the best of luck tomorrow. :)

The good news is I should have time to work on RMN and games again

But that’s right after he finishes making Hero’s Realm 0.2: A Hero’s Tale – The Pendulating Passage.

I should know ‘cause my uncle works for kentendo.

HI, what rpg maker games are your favorites?

@ Tuomo_L - Oh yeah, I remember a bit of Dooms 5 and played the original demo back then and actually thought it wasn’t all that bad from what I remember. I mean, the game was still very early in development from the build I played back then - but I thought it had some promise to it.

And, yeah, good idea about possibly just combining the first three games of the original series and just remaking it into one sweet little package, because the first three games, at least to me, were not very particularly that great or have aged very well, IMO. It was the 4th entry in the series that just really smashed the door open and made this series into what it is and what could have been if it had continued.

Well, whenever you do decide to bring the series back and plan on diving into it again after you finish up your current projects, I hope you plan on making announcements and showcasing your work for it on RMN as well, ‘cause that would be great.

[Poll] Girl Guide Cookies, Which Is Your Favorite: Chocolate, Vanilla Or Mint?

author=LockeZ
This poll is absurd.

- Absurdly-delicious, that is! :D

(I’m not sorry.)

Girl scout cookies kinda suck and they are not cheap

While they don’t necessarily suck, I agree they are pretty expensive. We used to pay around $2 or $3 a box back then, but the one I bought from yesterday was for $5, and that’s starting to get a little too pricy for my tastes... Another buck or more increase in the future and I may have to say “no thanks" to them the next time around and just get some plain ol' vanilla oreos and snack of them instead.

And, yeah, I kind of miss when they used to go door-to-door to my house and sell ‘em that way. The last time they did that was quite a long time ago, and that makes me quite sad… Maybe all the gangs and recent shootings in the area scared them all away?

"Your daughter's in girl scouts, right?"
"Yeah."
"When she get cookies, I'll take five boxes."

Well - I can certainly see what types of cookies YOU like to buy there, lol.

The good news is I should have time to work on RMN and games again

Well…guess it’s time to finally start commercialising Hero’s Realm now and making a decent living off that, lol.

But in all seriousness, I’m sad to hear about you losing your job, man. It always sucks when these types of things happen, especially out of the blue and seemingly out of nowhere. Hopefully you’ll find yourself some decent employment soon.
