Cast Aside

Hmm, that's a really odd error, I believe someone else mentioned it as well.

I've worked on repeating this but haven't had any luck. I do NOT think it's something you're doing wrong.

Since I can't repeat this myself, maybe it's a bug that I've accidentally fixed along with other changes in the newer versions, I'm working hard on Episode 3 so maybe that will help with the bug...

Thanks for playing and let me know if you see any method to what's causing the crashing!

Avarice Review

To be fair I missed the spoiler notice too. :D

Also, what's this "tile-based" stuff?! That's all pixel-perfect movement.
Many brain cells... died... to bring us this, er, create that (I should build a memorial or something.)

The rest of your issues are really my fault for presentation; I hoped to lead the player into better understanding of how some attacks worked better against some enemies through experimentation and how they were grouped, for example:

You mention "Gust" as a very solid power; that's because it's an area collision, so it hits anything within it's 'range' - this makes it ideal for small enemies that are hard to hit with bullets/projectiles. That's it's advantage over it's weaker attack power (melee also works like this.)

Some of the very fast enemies that hit hard and move faster than you are very weak against traps and wards.

Larger enemies are most easily dealt with by Lexi's concentrated firepower if you have the ammo, or clever use of Van's spells (which pack an equal wallop, Bolt was a personal favorite.)

The bosses could have used some extra difficulty added in there, but the difficulty levels unlock a lot of their more powerful attacks too, I didn't want them to make the game inaccessible on lower difficulty levels.

I'm a bit surprised you found normal enemies harder in some cases, again I attribute this mostly to fighting them with the wrong tactic (trying to gun down or use Fireball on tiny enemies, since their collision is pixel-perfect versus area, or trying to melee or hit fast enemies versus traps and sniping) which comes back to me needing to make it more clear.

Maybe make some additional tutorials as I introduced weapon types, and explain what rubric for enemy types more clearly. Maybe a tip system people can turn on/off? It's certainly things to think about since I do want to use this system again. :)

Cast Aside

@Yomic: A difficulty setting is one of the things I'm finishing up now, the key to that battle is using the right attack types versus the right enemies (scorpions are nigh invulnerable to physical strikes, and the bats aren't easily hurt by aura.)

@dgfurman: Do you have the XP RTP installed? That error is usually because the RTP isn't installed, the game needs it to run. (Just download RPG Maker XP by searching google for RPG Maker XP, it's one of the install options when you run it.)

Criticism, Angst, and You

It's important to note that even if just mechanics was your goal, people wanted the character development when the characters were so interesting.

What I'd take from the character bit feedback is that if your throwing out names and strong personalities you should polish them up; if you don't want to, use a format like FF1 or other games that are purely mechanics.

Criticism, Angst, and You

To cover the original post question:

Anything a player/reviewer says is valid criticism; ANYTHING.

Honestly you should be HONORED that he wanted to know more about the characters so badly, that means you caught his interest with your characters and that's one of the most difficult things to do.

Your players are your customers, and your reviewers are the most important ones since they're giving you something back. To discard anything they say for any reason is folly, and being rude about it is an affront to other developers and reviewers (not that you did, but others...)

Even if it's a total jerk review by someone who hates you, that means it stood out in their minds as the weakest areas, that's still information you can use.

The character from this series (depicted above) has huge eyes and a chest too!
Oh coincidences do you never cease~

Yikes. Do you mean the very first fight with Inan?

All I can suggest is staying out of melee range with him, maybe use the V key or right-click to switch to your Fireball to help keep him back.

I'm also uploaded a new version (just now) with him being weaker; download either the of the new versions (not the ones labeled GC) and I think you'll find him a lot easier to deal with.
