Release Something Weekend

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Added in a wee cutscene after the intro comic, just as you get control for the first choice.
Also finally picked a font and got dialogue sorted for the first "chapter". Pretty happy with the way the font looks on top of the cartoon tilesets~

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but when exactly does it count as midnight? We're all over the world, so do we use our individual midnights, or the midnights of RMN and rpgmakerweb?

The information tells you near the top. It's GMT Midnight-Midnight (exactly 3 hours from the time of this post)
:)

I loved that movie! Mind you, I'm totally into mixing mediums together...I mean why should we only get to hear a noise? Why can't we SEE it too!?

Overindulgence is the way forward! :D

Release Something Weekend

It doesn't end one day earlier; it still runs till midnight the 5th, which gives it 48 hours.

It only "ends a day early" if you're behind the GMT timezone, but then you also start early as well, so you still get 48 hours to submit. Although none of it starts anyways for another 5.5 hours.

@slashphoenix:
The animated ground looks great, nice and jumpy. Suits the vibrant colouring. Would be good to see that across the whole game, make it really feel alive.

@alterego:
Some of the character images are templated from photos etc, but really just for body proportions; the armour/clothing/everything else is drawn from scratch on top of the skeleton trace.
If you follow me o_o
The game itself is fairly animated. A lot of static images, but we're doing what we can to keep them as lively as possible. without...stopping them from being comic panels.
Kinda hard to explain without just balls-out giving every detail. We're releasing the first 5 mins Intro scene for the RSW weekend, since neither of us can really explain to anyone the theme we're goin' for.
Think Scott Pilgrim vs The World, but in comic format instead of movie! ^^?

Release Something Weekend

Fantastic; just wanted to clarify, really. I was thinking that, but I didn't want to put all the images on one page then find out that that only counts as one, or some such!

Cheers, you two :)

Release Something Weekend

Just for clarity's sake, since I've never used the "submit media" option on a project before:

For the media submission category (5 pieces of promotional/concept art), does that need to be five separate media submissions, or can all five images be put into the one submission file (and/or just have all five images saved onto a single image file)?

Release Something Weekend

No game is good to begin with.
It's like seeing a child and thinking that that person will be snivelling, codependant, attention-whoring, crying mess all their lives.
Sure, it COULD work out that way, but it's a bit premature to assume it will based no that fact alone.

This event has the understanding that your work is not yet in adulthood, and may indeed be very different from the final version.

Regardless of that; anything you produce this weekend will certainly not "ruin you". Everyone has projects that go south, so no one is really too disgusted when someone comes up with a project that isn't A-grade material...especially if you're new to the hobby or do it purely as a part-time "for fun only" experience.

Difficulty: Challenge vs Frustration

I'm with mawk; MM wasn't a time limit. It gave you time limits to do specific things, sure, but because of the repeating nature you could be aware well in advance of what was going to happen when, where to be, what to do, and have multiple other options besides that.
I like the word "schedule" for it more than timer, as mawk says.

Although I do agree that some of the longer/more complicated side-quests could totally twist my balls if I missed something or showed up late (or too early...) and knew I couldn't try again without resetting the clock, I at least knew that I wasn't just stuck in a cycle of doing this same mission over again until I got it right. It was more than possible to go "ah, fuck it; I'll go do a dungeon or w/e, and try this quest again after the next rewind", which is what it all boils down to imo.
