Due to situations beyond his control, Ben has more idle time than he should have! "Hands" are the devil's playground and as such Ben is often drawing or diddling around in RPG-maker VX Ace to give his life a semblance of actual meaning.
A social introvert, Ben is NOT a social butterfly! However, he still desires to create forms of expression which incite genuine emotions, raucous laughter, and occasional deep thoughts. (Though often enough he misses that mark and ends up offending everyone instead!)

Why your name?
Nightsavior=
Came up with it in college. During that phase Street Fighter Alpha 3 and DarkStalkers 3: Vampire savior were my two favorite fighting games. It also sounded Goth and emo! Much to my shame, I used to be a sucker for that kind of stuff!
BrokenH=
People often think it means "Broken Hearted" but it actually stands for "Broken Hierophant". I don't mind being called "Broken" or "Brokie" for short!
Fowl Of Doom=
Just because I have a thing for birds, especially chickens and mythical phoenixes! The name came to me after seeing a funny meme of a yellow chick emerging from an egg while on fire. (Not real flames mind you. The chick looked entirely unharmed!)

author=SorceressKyrstyauthor=BrokenHI am not arguing for complete destruction of sexualization in games because that is suppressing what is a core and vital aspect of the human experience. We are sexual creatures. Just like you don't understand those examples, I don't understand the appeal behind yuri, most female comic characters, and many, many outfits over the years. I don't like 50 Shades or Twilight either, for the record. That's not what this is about.
You're welcome to feel this way. Again, you'd probably be surprised the portrayals of the females in the game are quite different but if it's this much of an issue for you I'm not going to force you to play something that might offend you more.
Personally I don't understand it when soccer moms drool over Justin Bieber. I cannot pinpoint the appeal behind 50 shades of grey, justify Twilight as "good literature",or fathom why bishonen yaoi themed slash fics are popular with so many female writers. However, just because I'm not fond of these things (As well as the fact I had to cartwheel around naked as Raiden in Sons Of Liberty) it does not mean such depictions of fantasy men (and boys) shouldn't exist.author=BrokenHOh please. We're not going to help feminism in other countries if we don't fix it in 1st world countries first. We've now reached a day and age where we, as a species, are able to turn around and say "oh, hm, we treat an equal aspect of our species unequally". As much as it would be nice for their to be equality across the board overnight, it's not going to happen. The fact is that it needs to be acknowledged.
I could go at length to argue that judging females simply for being in sexy poses and wearing sexy clothes is still judging them based on nothing more than their appearances or the fact that there are more pressing issues at hand in the real world more worthy of your time than a crusade to bring "realistic armor physics" to the fantasy/fictional medium. However, based on your writing above I assume you are intelligent enough to realize that. Think these drawings are "horrid"? You know what's more horrid? Being a woman in certain 3rd world countries. Y'know, the places where feminism would actually be of use!
Yes, 3rd world feminism would be appropriately placed, but I don't live in a third world country and given you've developed a game and have a computer of some kind, the chance is neither do you. And in the western, english speaking world, females still get paid less just because of the fact they're female. There is inequality amongst males, yes- and that needs to be addressed, too, don't get me wrong!- but the fact is that majority of the portrayals and needless sexism are directed at females.author=BrokenH
Lastly please, stop using the word misogyny without knowing what it means. Portraying females in a sexual way is not the same thing as hating a whole gender. It's funny you bring it up though because Hideo Kojima was recently called a "misogynist" just because he had one sexy female character design. Then people proceeded to argue about realism within a series that has mechas, psychics, nano infused vampires, cyber ninjas, and guys that shoot bees!
I actually was not at all angry by anything you wrote but when you tossed the lame "misogyny label" at me it kind of killed off some of your credibility. Should I call you a misandrist as a rebuttal just because you might have enjoyed certain romance, fantasy, or sci fi novels that had unrealistic sexualized portrayals of men in them? Should I call you a misandrist just because you are arguing with me or do not like something I have created? Of course not. That would be silly!
Look, calling someone a "woman hater" is a serious accusation. The sheer negativity of that label is something no one wants to be associated with. This is why you should really "think" before you sling it at someone like a bunch of mud. Don't like my art? That's entirely okay! Think my art reflects everything about my "real soul" thus I must have a rapey torture dungeon for all my female "conquests"? That's quite the stretch of logic there. (Not saying you've drawn that conclusion but calling what I do misogynistic implies roughly the same thing.)
As an illustrator and writer, I'm not obligated to appeal to you sensibilities. If you don't like my work RMN has plenty of other worthwhile adventures to embark on.
Although it came across that way (and I apologize) I was not directly calling you a misogynist. Your art, however, follows a trend and outline drawn by people who were a very long time ago. Sexualization for the sake of sexualization, completely directed entirely at women, is making them an 'object' and robbing them of the basic right to be considered a man's 'equal'. The reason I became so frustrated was because the art for this game does not have an equal spread in this regard- the women are sexualized and the men are not, and that's how it always is. If we don't question and say "Why?" to this trend, it'll never stop.
No, it's not a term to be thrown around lightly. But Hideo Kojima, in the same line you are following, is designing on principles outlined and defined by people who saw women as objects.
Now, I have not played this game. So I don't know what their personalities are like. But I won't found out, because visually I have made a judgement. You know that 'don't judge a book by it's cover' crap? It's just that- crap. People make a judgement based on the images they see. We're a visual species by nature and your game profile is a visual representation/advertisement for your game. And because your art is following a trend created and perfected by misogynists, that is how it is seen. That does not mean that is how it is, but myself and many of my fellow female developers feel that's how you've painted your game.
No one wants to be called a misogynist, no. It is a horrible term. At current I'm unsure if there's a better blanket term for dehumanizing women through portrayal, but at this point in the world-wide argument it's the term that's used.
It is entirely possible for a character to be sexually aware, sexy, and not be objectified. There are certain portrayals of Harley Quinn that I adore, because she's a very self aware character most of the time. The same goes for Catwoman. But not every Batman woman should be sexually comfortable or aware, and not every woman in every game should be, either.
There are few examples of women who are done right in that regard- my mind's sticking to Rouge the Bat, for pete's sake- and it's interesting to see, really! But when it's every character, in every piece of concept art, next to men who are fully clothed, how else is that meant to be seen, really? Like I said, I doubt every woman in your game is sexually aware and deliberately trying to get into the protagonist's (or anyone's) pants.
Concept and character art should express the character's personality. Fanservice, that kind of thing is fine! On my end of the spectrum, that picture I mentioned- he doesn't run around shirtless with his fly unzipped the entire game. It doesn't fit him as a character. Short-shorts, low cut tops, everything can be done in a tasteful and character-fitting manner, but when it isn't it feels tacky. Do they really enjoy or feel comfortable being exposed like that? If the answer is no, then why did they put on that outfit in the morning?
If your character wouldn't actually put on that outfit if given the opportunity, and can't move realistically in it, then why is she wearing it? That's the real question at hand, and it's an idea to really think about.
On Hideo Kojima's criticism: MGS has never been realistic and I don't expect a realistic outfit for Quiet. But tights would've been fair enough, and maybe a pair of bikini briefs. Have you ever worn a thong before? The problem is that he pushed it into the territory of being uncomfortable when she's an action orientated character, and that's where most of the problem lays. We have characters in MMORPGs with their boobs almost completely exposed, in an outfit that'd never work in real life, swinging around a sword? Pushing the envelope in that regard is fine because games aren't the realm for realism, but pushing it too far results in something that makes females queasy. If it's not going to be comfortable for you to wear, as a male, likelihood is it won't feel any better on a female. This stems into skirts and dresses, too, in regards to combat.
When you say "Don't judge a book by its' cover" is nothing but "crap" that's just another opinion. If you applied everything to your philosophy we should always make our analysis about what's on the surface (without digging deeper) and I don't want to live in a world like that. However, I believe you are meaning it's "crap" only in certain cases so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Secondly, most men who drew like I do DID NOT have a conspiracy to oppress women. Maybe they designed sexier characters to sell more games or sell more comic books (Such as when Cammy was introduced to Street Fighter) but it was mainly to appeal to the predominately male demographic at the time. And as males they drew their fantasies that they found to be attractive. (Just as Stephenie Meyer likes shirtless and sparkling young men with ripped physiques and handsome pouting faces.)
Furthermore, how can you objectify what is essentially an object in the first place? Many of these memorable icons started their lives as concept art, moved onto being pixels, and finally became 3D models. Yes, we may see them as people (Because who doesn't develop an attachment to good characters?) but everything about them is scripted and artificial.
MMORPGS? Either female gamers play as male avatars to avoid being harassed (And to me that IS a big problem. Aka,how real females are treated when online or on a game server.) or they choose to create ridiculously hawt female avatars themselves. (Because most of us want that one idealized character we could never be in real life.)
This also did not stop females from dressing in sexy cosplay (something you claim familiarity with) or stop females from "liking" some of those very same racy designs. (Jessica Nigri comes to mind) Everyone is different and though you can speak for yourself and even get friends to agree with you,it does not mean yours is the only voice out there when it comes to these issues.
As for the whole "We need to fix problems here first" it's a lazy cop out. Your "problems" compared to women in certain parts of Africa or The Middle East are paltry and laughable. You can vote. You can get into politics. You can tell a guy to "fuck off" and get a divorce from him on a whim. If you tell someone else you were raped chances are they will take your word for it with no evidence and they will not even bother with hearing the other person's side of the story. If you strike a man he will be worried to strike you back on account even in this supposed age of equality most men still believe it is wrong to hit a woman. If you go into court for alimony or child custody, chances are you are going to win. (Unless your have a history of mental illness or substance abuse. Discriminating against the mentally ill should be its' own topic though.) If your biggest worry is how "fictional characters" are portrayed within a fictional medium you're rather privileged.
(Don't worry, I acknowledge myself as being privileged too on account though I'm poor, I live in North America so it's nice to have clean drinking water, fresh food,a roof over my head,a pc,internet, and videogames. lol. I wasn't singling you out there.)
I will dial it back a notch though. I have not walked in your shoes,Krys. For example, though I'm a white male I've never had white privilege.(I've always been either poor or homeless) Perhaps you are a female that grew up WITHOUT the luxuries, comforts, and securities most western women have. If that is true then by all means, forget the above paragraph completely and accept a sincere apology!
Concerning the whole "clothes being unrealistic because they can't fit both genders" men are built differently from women. I assume you know that. As such no, I personally could not fit into most clothes most women wear today. Some tranny guys pull it off beautifully but I'm very tall and rather broad in the shoulders. (I also have big feet. Finding shoes in my size even as a man is an epic adventure in and of itself!) I'd need to have women's apparel "specially tailored" in my case. But yeah, some character designers are out there (It's Halloween 24/7 ya'll!) and fetishistic. (Like myself) Yet you also have the people who designed the new Lara Croft, Ellie from The Last Of Us,Faith from Mirror's Edge, and the female protagonist from Portal 2. It's not as if you don't have choices. There are designers who have chosen to have a touch of realism and sensibility in their products. However, I do believe the sexy, obscene, and ridiculous games have a right to exist too. Variety and diversity are good things!

Some remarkable stuff! Kind of reminds me of the early White-Wolf days before Vampire The Masquerade,Changeling The Dreaming, and Werewolf: The Apocolypse became unrecognizable to me. lol.

Maybe the reason Ben is an aimless illustrator is because his art personifies every stupid sexualized comic trope when it comes to women.
No, seriously. The art you have for your female cast is infuriating and I'm not even an all out arbiter for women's rights and desexualization in games. It's just that god damn ridiculous. I'm not going to be playing this game, because the art makes me want to be sick. I'm not even sure what to say to you at this point, because it was a consistent theme throughout all your art, but how about not looking at western comic garbage for female poses and inspiration and doing some research into decent, function-able clothing? Hell, sexualize a couple if you must, but when you have an entire cast of females with their nipples, boobs, butts and vaginas clearly outlined I question your maturity and the content this game is going to have. It's not even realistic sexualization. Women don't bend that way, clothing doesn't ride up like that, and unless your game takes place in the Artic nipples aren't always perky. Or visible.
Gah, I'm lost on what to say, really. Look up http://repair-her-armor.tumblr.com/ or http://thehawkeyeinitiative.com/ and just think about what kind of art and stereotypes you're continuing by drawing in this way. If you're aiming for a RM* playerbase, a check over the most popular games will show that an enormous amount are made by female developers. You are cutting off every female who might have even had a smidgen of interest via drawing like you've never seen a real woman in your life.
And I can tell you right now most of your excuses, including artistic license/freedom, I can draw what I want, it fits their character, etc, etc, etc, etc, are a load of bologna and you know it. I really doubt Amy actually wants to have her vagina clearly outlined. Just imagine wearing a latex sock over your dick, in public. Just fucking imagine that for two seconds.
Sexualize certain characters if you like. Hell, I do! I like drawing guys with their shirts off, and I caused quite a stir because his fly was unzipped. GASP. But when it's every single character, in the most ridiculous of poses, with their anatomy completely skewed, as an actual character design, it becomes not something for visual enjoyment or interest but a visual representation of misogyny and your failure to consider your female characters as people.
You're welcome to feel this way. Again, you'd probably be surprised the portrayals of the females in the game are quite different but if it's this much of an issue for you I'm not going to force you to play something that might offend you more.

Nice character arts! It's weird because you have a character named Ian and he looks kind of like my real brother by the same name. Of course that's when Ian was really young. I have no idea what my bro looks like now. lol. Regardless,my eyes are enjoying these!

Some interesting character designs but the sexualization seems kinda...cheesy and sleazy. haha Hard nips and camel toe and side boob, oh my.
It's true. I'm not the best guy to go to for non-fanservice. lol. Luckily, the pc police slipping into gaming and comic books are letting fly with their Hawkeye initiatives and rants on how "fantasy women" should be dressed more respectively. I guess it's a good time to be a realist. Aka, if you like your characters more "modest" and less "rapey" there are many ppl out there that will support that sentiment with you.
Me? I'm a relic from a dying age I guess. Aka, I never saw the sleaziness in fan-service and I was always a bit more put off by gore and violence. Not that I cannot handle violence. You could say I simply do not appreciate it as much as the typical 12 year old who plays COD and God Of War. It's more of a "guilty pleasure" for me as opposed to something I like 100% with no shame involved. For me adding the "battle blood" on the characters was more risque than making them look sexy. Go figure!

It's bad I misspelled "Cuckoo" my first time writing that line. In an absurd way maybe it added some authenticity the the old military veteran's state of mind. lol.
