What are you thinking about right now?

Resisting the urge to jump back on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice because I'm currently beating my head against a boss and I know I'm going to die upwards of 20 times. And I don't want to go to bed with steam coming out of my ears.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

I'm getting a Dark Souls vibe from that map, and it has me anticipating whatever that is you might be working on.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. So far, after a bit of a tantrum because it's not the next Dark Souls. I've found myself loving this game. Once my mind switched gears to the new mechanics in the game. I had my tantrum after I died the amount of times that's come to be known scientifically as a 'fuck-ton' and sat down to play Nioh. But after a while I just found myself longing for Sekiro again, so I consulted various tips and tricks and decided to dive right in again. The only reason I'm here typing this is because if I go back on it now I won't sleep tonight.

In conclusion. I've been playing Sekiro and you all should, too.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Just doing some work on my game, planning what I want to happen in the story later down the line. Sometimes I'll think up a scenario in my head, think it'll work well in whatever game I'm working on and write it down/plan it out in my trusty notebook.

I'm also trimming down some of the dialogue so that the player isn't swamped with exposition.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I've been slowly making my way through Nioh, hoping to finish it by the time Sekiro comes out so I can have samurai themed gaming year with Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, and Nioh 2.

I recently learned that Doom 64, my personal favourite Doom game was given the Brutal Doom treatment, so I've been slogging my way through that. I know Doom 64 like the back of my hand, and Brutal Doom 64 has made some minor changes in enemy placement, level layout and difficulty to keep me on my toes.

I also got my hands on a Switch, so I'll be slowly building up my library of Switch games as well, adding to the tsunami of unfinished games towering over the beach that is my free time.

Using skills and character leveling to tell a story

Watching that video made me want to give Phantasy Star 4 another try. And now I'm going to try to see if I can notice everything raised in the video.

I need help. A friend of mine has found out their grandfather is going to die. As someone who has autism, how can I be supportive and a good friend to them while they're going through this?

It's very insightful, thank you. This was the only place where I could hope to find answers as google search just brought up how to support people who have autism, rather than how someone with autism can be supportive of others. It's kind of worsened because of, be it a result of my autism or not. I can't grieve. I've lost loved ones and felt nothing. I just accept it and move on. So I can't even imagine what someone else is going through when a loved one dies.

e: also good Unlimited SaGa battle music: ultimate!

Without a shadow of a doubt the best final boss music ever.

Serious and unironic things I like in games, surprisingly are both from Phantasy Star 4. The macro system. A sort of auto battle where you could program a set of attacks for battle, which helped get random encounters out of the way, ant set up attacks for the combo attacks, speaking of which. The second is the combo attacks where two or more skills from different characters in a battle party would trigger a devastating attack. I know Chrono Trigger had the dual tech and it was cool and all. But in Phantasy Star 4 it called for experimentation in battle and could be seen as incentive to use all the characters in battle. So if I were to compile a list of 5 things.

1. The macro system from Phantasy Star 4.
2. The combo attacks from Phantasy Star 4.
3. Tech sparking from the SaGa games.
4. Pre-boss, or mid-boss checkpoints.
5. The duel system in SaGa Frontier 2 where you could either fight as a party or duel a monster one on one. It made for more diverse random encounters.

While all of the music in Unlimited Saga is godlike. I much prefer Battle Theme I, or BT. Ver 8. I was contemplating adding a list of my own, but a joke list of the worst things to put in games. But I didn't want to come across as a twat.

[RM2K3] Need advice coming up with a name for my project.

The one that strikes out at me the most (after staying up way too late deliberating over this) is The Unrevival, it's short and punchy. However. I'll keep it as a working title for now until something else pops out at me.
