Calunio's surrealizations on RMN Summer Games 2011
author=rabitZ
@psy:
I should have specified I was talking about games in general, not explicitly surreal ones.
:)
I think it was pretty obvious that calunio was refering to surreal games.
Also come to think of it, I can't remember a single game that started out with the protagonist questioning where he was :|

Well, the fact is I don't agree with your definition of surrealism : I really do not think it has much to with Freud's Principles of pleasure and reality, in fact I'd say nothing, it's an artistic movement that focuses on the way the mind works and the subconscious in particular (very present in dreams), not how it works in itself from an analytical point of view, but in life.
You can disagree all you like, but historically the formation of the surrealist movement was inspired by Dadaism and freud's fundalmental principles. If what you're saying is true then it'll go against 90 years of research, interviews and analytical study! B)

Very detailed article :) along with the WTF artifice, I noticed alot of the developers relied on dreams as a plot device and actually tried to mold surrealism around the narrative. Relying too much on gaming conventions than actually going crazy with thier imagination, but whatever the case I enjoyed playing through all these games and the way you guys took it head on was pretty inspiring to see!
