STORMCROW'S PROFILE

>look StormCrow

You see not a bird but an American lady who likes other ladies. Oscillates between shy as a mouse and babbling violently, seemingly at random.

I like badasses. I like babes. I like badass babes the best. Okay...actually I like doggoes the very best, but I aspire to make games about badass babes is my point.

I use music from bands and artists in the free games I make: the frustrated filmmaker in me is very enamored of scoring scenes with rock'n'roll soundtracks Scorcese or Tarantino style. In addition to being a time honored tradition in cinema, this has a history in AAA videoogames as well (for a really great use of it, see Bioshock: Infinite). If I was a millionaire, I'd totally license these songs so I could actually use them legally.

Just TBC when does tequila end?

(tequila never ends, tequila unending)

Swap in the Middle with Two

Thanks for the various clarifications and uh...believe me, I'm not going to get overly attached to the first half I'm handing off. I mean, I'm not leaving anyone a pile of shit, I hope, but I'm literally not creating any maps OR any graphics for it so...yeah. Doubt I'll get attached.

Anyway I mainly posted to say that looking at the board of who's joined right now, I have a 2/26 chance of getting randomly paired with someone legendary (awesome!), a 7/26 chance of getting randomly paired with someone notable (rad!), around a 100% chance of getting randomly paired with someone interesting (cool), and a 1 in 26 chance of getting randomly paired with someone "interesting".
Which do I qualify as?

Um, honestly, in my own completely subjective opinion which doesn't particular matter, I had you placed within the 100% interesting group. I didn't name names because I did't want to start like, the ego wars, but since you asked...I answered. (I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.)

"I am not a sane man"

Don't read the books if you ever get the opportunity. They drive you insane.

Well, the FICTION is great and you should read it but if you ever come across an actual copy of the Necronomicon or Des Vermiis Mysteriis...put it down and walk away.

I am taking the answer to "are we allowed to make endings to our first half if we feel the need to do so" as yes.

Is there a rule against making a page for your first half during the contest?
Is there a rule against making a page for your fist half after the contest?

Thanks for the LP! I only watched the first video (so far?)

tl;dr warning

On my speakers at least, the games's volume is turned down way too low. I can't hear much of the music or any of "the rats in the walls" or anything. It essentially ruins the fright factor of the game as the music and ambient noises contribute so much to the ambience, and the sound design is the essential basis of the scares in the game, large and small. So having your volume turned down to almost-inaudible doesn't just give you the impression the game isn't frightening, it also gives the entire LP audience the impression that the game isn't frightening. I realized at 38:00 minutes that you were dealing with some pretty serious mostly unrelated technical issues, too.

This is why even AAA games with seven figure and up budgets resort to pleading with the player to play them alone in the dark with headphones if possible.

This isn't about my game specifically, it's endemic to the medium (LP) and the genre (horror). LPs are not kind to horror games, from here at the lowest level to of indie development the highest profile AAA games and especially everything in between. (Imagine if one's first experiece of Silent Hill consisted of watching some guy play it, nit pick it, make fun of and/or bitch about its failings (and Silent Hill isn't a perfect game by any means)--you wouldn't exactly be primed to play it and be open to it scaring you.)

You've been casually frank with your comments about my game, so I'll be equally casually frank in my comments on your video. Understand it's all in a spirt of jocularity, rather than defensiveness:

This is a game I put together in just two weeks. I'm proud of it, but I'm certainly not precious about it.

In general I enjoy your Calvin voice (Charles was also occasionally entertaining when he briefly slid into a decent Sean Connery impression).

1st Video @12:22: Candles, dipshit! : P
1st Video @16:30: Yay, there ya go!
1st Video @16:58: I appreciate that you appreciate my leeway. I wish I'd given more of it (namely I think I let you leave three lights unlit, I wish I'd made it six). Along the same lines I wish I had not so much removed the Stamina system so much as set max Stamina to 400 instead of 250.
1st Video @33:56: Good guess!! Close but no cigar. It's the second most well known Cthulhu Mythos tome, De Vermiis Mysteriis. But of course you know that by now.
1st Video @AmazonGag: lol
1st Video @37:40: well actually, whatever their incomprehensibly alien minds 'want' would utterly destroy your sanity if you were even capable of understanding it, which you aren't. so it's not as simple as "brains". that's kind of the point (of Lovecraftian horror, a genre perpetuated by hundreds of talented writers in various formats and media).

Thanks for the LP!

Oh yeah, if it matters, I have MV but I've literally never used it for anything. Ever. I'm proficient in every other engine I mentioned owning.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

DOUBLEPOST I guess. Anyway, I was thinking if RMN keeps churning out events I actually want to join at the rate it is, I'm never gonna make any real progress on my serious projects--and I ain't even got no job right now.

This is a cool idea. And I want to watch Reservoir Dogs today! Stealer's Wheel's one hit is forever entangled with Mr. Blonde torturing that cop in my eyes. Oh, and I just noticed the clowns and jokers signs. Very clever.

I have the Don Miguel Extra Super Legal wink wink edition of 2k and 2k3, and legal versions of VX, Ace, and MV. XP ain't gonna happen.

If it helps people to disassociate themselves a bit from being clingy with their games think of the first half of the event as you making part of a game for someone else - it's not your game, it's theirs. You're just making it for them to mess with. The second half is where you get to make what your get yours.

Remember, we're doing this for fun, guys, and a big part of that is seeing how someone else takes your ideas and makes them into something else. Ideally we'll see games come from this with interesting changes and twists, so don't get attached to the first halves!

Sure, and there's nothing stopping you from separately finishing the first half of the game "your way" on your own if you feel the need to do so. Or is there? There isn't, right?

In the spirit of the event, don't be a back-seat driver to the second creators. They can take the game where they like - that's half the fun of the event. In fact, let's just say that you keep your fingers out of the game pie after it gets handed over. Make it something of a surprise, eh?

So, are we going to know who we're partnered with before the exchange, or no? I'd assumed no but I wasn't sure. I was just wondering if we were allowed (during the first half of the event) to tell our partner things like "hey just a heads up I'm using xyz graphics" or "hey just a heads up i'm using xyz scripts". Not so much back-seat driving as just trying to make someone vaguely aware of what they're getting their hands on. But obviously if we're not going to know who our partners are until the exchange, we literally can't do that (not just like, we're not allowed to, like it's impossible).

Thanks for the feedback, bro. Hope you enjoyed some of it on some level, in spite of the many (some quite understandable) complaints.

Not that it matters, because AFAIK I'm the only one going so far as actually (conspicuously) drinking the booze that matches the theme as I write my reviews, but out of idle curiosity, why all hard liquor and no beer, wine, cider, etc?

(on a mostly unrelated note i got so fucking wrecked on apocalypto and cuervo last night oh my god)
