I really don't think GW died because of its generics.
Both GameJolt and itch were made after this site, so what's the excuse there? Carving a niche has helped in what way?

RMN is unfitting? :P
The domain is rpgmaker.net, which is wrong in that: 1) not all games here are made in an RPG Maker program OR 2) not all games here are RPGs. It's a bit incorrect either way you slice it.

I personally like the font ._.
Not a TERRIBLE font, but the outlining makes it look worse.

Are you scoping the joint out planning a coup?
Thought about it. RMN has a decent userbase and some good stuff, but would it make sense to try and get back in to drag it to a different "place"?
Also I think it's pretty understood I find the name incredibly unfitting.

With the way the web works on mobile these days, you can get a fantastic and very performant experience. Making sure the design is responsive in all aspects is the first step.
In the case of chat, though, you'd want to have folks opt-in to that on mobile. Can be a bandwidth chewer and could bother folks.

Yeah, Slack is great because it has an app on my phone AND it is not blocked at work (unlike IRC, which is) AND I get notices on my phone when people mention my name.
Yeah I don't think any solution would work unless it was a 100% good mobile experience. Browsers can do notifications no problem these days.

Ditching the portrait and "where do you want to go?" windows will free up some space. You'll have to reorient the map more to the left and shrink the menu windows. The menu window should have double-lined items so it can be thinner.
