It's only for the map editor.
..the map editor part is the only reason people would want to resize the editor window.
because it's using a special library for it.
This is a problem under your control. You can try getting the active window handle HWND and hijacking it using the WIN32 call that changes window style. You can insert a response to the window being resized event and then add a call in there that resets your library to the new resolution (if you really want to keep with this library).

I like how they made the logo all METAL complete with the spikey serifs and the chrome shine on some of the letters. \w/

you can't resize the window after opening it with Gosu library.
I assume there's a part where before you init the library in your code. You can get the resolution of the user's desktop screen and automatically calculate a good size, and then init with that.
Even so, because it is the editor, people are going to have problems with not being able to resize their workspace since every single toolkit ever had a standard resizable application window.
but I would recommend not using rpg maker rtp in any screenshots so legal issues with enterbrain don't come up even before a release.
It's actually OK here because its just for demonstration purposes. However, you cannot bundle it with your engine downloads nor use these screenshots on something like the engine's web page. Your circumstances may be slightly different, so you should always ask a lawyer to be sure.

Hey, this a WIP don't worry dude. x)
Best time for critical and constructive feedback. Dunno why you think I'm worried, though.
For the tile window, I don't want it to hide the map. I think 5 squares width are enough, and if sometimes you need more just use the arrows.
RPG Maker 2003 had 6 and later ones are 8 wide. 5 is just too small. Make the editor window larger, resizable, and capable of being maximized to desktop.

This looks awkward. You aren't dragging the view with the mouse? And there isn't a smooth right click drag camera change?
You should just have a toolbar with all the buttons there (having to click the arrows for what you want and you don't even see what all the options are).
The windowed tile palette is strange too, just show the full range and have it scroll up and down maybe, having this small window view would get annoying after a while.

...RMXP had/has something for this, it was called "priorities...
RPG Maker XP had a lot of options in its map editor, but you had to micro a lot even to make simple maps, it was tedious. I kind of understand the fully automatic approach, but the MV one looks like it will be too oversimplified.

Are you talking about a heightmap ? Something like this ?
No. Block tile map. Like some of the PS1 RPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire III, Grandia. etc. I've got an example of what I mean here and here.
I tried this for a worldmap test and it was really painfull to map with it. I want to stay in a simple way.
Unrelated to what I meant, but you can easily turn fractal noise into world maps.
If you want a 2D world map generated from noise techniques like that one, just set thresholds for sea, land, and mountain tiles. Don't generate all the levels of the noise pyramid for a simple way to eliminate the noise that sometimes happens. It'll get you some really good world mappey looking maps.
For random biomes, you could try separate noise maps for conditions like rainfall, foliage, etc. and add logical comparison tests (when specific maps are between specifics levels at the same place) that could paint biomes over the world map for deserts, forests, etc.

I just realized only kentona has submitted more things than I have. Though I'm behind by 200.
I don't recall submitting much of anything. What is that counting?

Heck speaking of layer stuff, are we still stuck with short characters that don't work right if they're more than two tiles tall? (i.e. in VXA by default if you stand in front of like a lamp post, your character can poke through star priority tiles)
This is actually not possible unless you straight up have a fully 3D tile world and its capable of drawing everything sorted correctly, and it chops every movable sprite by the tile's grid and draws each resulting square fragment according to its proper Z layer. Sorting the events by Y (every RPG maker engine ever does this) means you can ignore the case that two events differ only slightly in the Y or Z directions.
The result is an engine that is completely bizarre and using it will send anyone into an MC Escher fever nightmare.
I can understand that they chose the normal approach. Just map your tiles carefully and you'll be fine.
