Yeah, but how on earth do you even come close to beating it? The damage from Ninth Dimension is 8000 and up. What sort of level should I be to take on DM? Heh, I'd kill for a Scan spell XD
You could be level 99 and never survive his attack. The battle is based on luck and whether he wants to use Ninth Dimension on you or not. The key strategy to defeating him is just hit him as hard as you can, as quickly as you can, and you will beat him (His HP is not as much as you think)

Final Fantasy : Mystic Quest Remastered
author=Animebryanauthor=darkdesigngamesI've dealt with the Norton problem. I had the settings to ignore the file but it still flagged the file. But it really crossed the line when it flagged & removed the game.exe. That's when I snapped & decided it was time to put the Norton Antivirus down, just like Old Yeller. Anyway, after I download the 1.4 patch will I still be able to continue with my save file or will I have to restart the game?author=AnimebryanI'm trying to duplicate this issue myself but its working for me. I'm looking at the event now.author=KenjiFayukeI'm having the same problem. Btw, I'm also having trouble with my Norton Antivirus blocking & deleting the RGSS202E.dll file.
Edit: After I beat the boss in the tree the tree tells me that he wants to teleport me out. He doesn't teleport me out there and I can't move or open the menu.
Norton is very funny about executable compression, I've had it flag RPG Maker VX before on many occasions. Simply allow the file through the ignore list and the problem will go away.
EDIT: I've found the cause of the problem. Strange how it didn't affect me during playthroughs, I will fix this immediately and will try to get the patch out as soon as I can. (The patch would include some of the latest changes as well, which is a bonus!)
P.S. How did you implement those battle backgrounds without switching to VX ACE? On your youtube account when I suggested it you said you like swirly backgrounds just the way they are.
Norton isn't compatible with many software :(
No, you wont have to start over.
A very quick script that I put together that stops the swirl effect with a global switch then loads the external bitmap into the battle scene, however there's limitations as for each area that the player moves to, a event is created to change the background image for that area. It was a pain in the neck but eventually I got it to work without the hassle of completely redoing the project in Ace!

Just to let you all know that I'm currently updating all game text that will enable you to change Benjamin's name when starting a new game, like you could in MQ originally!

Yeaaaaaaah, #2 was my own fault. I avoided entering Bone Palace since I figured I'd get my ass kicked... but then I remembered that Tristam joins you in there and was much higher level, oops. I want his Life Drain skill, it's insanely kick ass! XD
:P Wait till you get the bombs :P

Few things I've noticed so far:
1. In Level Forest there's a slime enemy stuck behind some trees because there's no route to him. The trees don't have an above-hero tile to symbolise going behind them, which means you can't access.
2. Holy crap the enemies do a lot of damage in the Desert Area, gone from being 5-30 damage around Foresta to 100-150 damage in the Desert.
3. No sleeping in random beds. I guess this is offset by the free stays in the Inn though.
4. Battlegrounds aren't there any more?? *shock*
5. NO CONTINUE?! That was one of the more distinguishing features of MQ; the option to continue back at the start of a fight if you're defeated. MQ was a tough game sometimes and this one seems to be even tougher :D
Either way, the game is still brilliant and I really am having a great time ^_^
1. Thanks, just looked at the map and noticed it, stupid me LOL :P
2. Yeah they do because at this point you will have tristam with you, it's also to make the journey across to sand temple that little bit harder, but yeah I could reduce it a bit
3. XD I never got that concept so I put the inns in. :P
4. I'll add the battlefields to my to do list. Although there's random encounters I could make battlegrounds quite easily and make good rewards. Thanks for that suggestion
5. Sadly I'd like this in there as well but it doesn't seem possible to do that with the RPG maker engine. I may find a way though.
Keep your suggestions coming in, they are great :)

After you install the game, you change the registry of pretty much every RPG maker made game to play in fullscreen at execution. I find that a bit tedious. But maybe that's just me. I think having the game to mimic keyboard key sequences (Alt+Enter) to achieve fullscreen seems more reasonable. Now all my RPG maker games start in fullscreen =\
This was only done for people who may not know how to do this themselves. I found it annoying when I tested this game on another computer after building a huge installer only to find out it will start in a window by default. Then I had to build the installer all over again just to include the registry file. :P

I got the latest patch, and have had a few battles that worked. However one near the chocobo forest gave me an error like cannot find graphic/grassland and crashed, if i see it again ill copy it down.
EDIT: Unable to find file Graphics/battlebacks/grasslands01
OK, thanks for letting me know.

Obviously I haven't gotten that far yet, so it might well just be already in, but how about the Dragon Claw? The one you use to latch onto distant objects and pull yourself towards them?
~edit~
Okay, I've been playing some more and I was thinking, since you're using the original soundtrack and not fan remixes (like from OCR or what have you) - why not simply use the MP3 OST? MIDI sounds okay and you've done a great job of arranging the soundtrack, but it does still lose some of that quality compared to the SNES SPC original, or the CD/MP3 OST.
I'm sure people wouldn't mind a larger download if it meant having pitch/tone-perfect audio :D
Either way, the remaster itself is amazing! You can really see the effort and attention to detail that has gone into creating it. I'm having a great time! :D
I did want to do that and include the OST but unfortunately I don't think it's legal to do that. The midi files technically are not square property but the arrangement is, but since it is original work (and not their mp3s) it is allowed to be included in this game.
Thanks, it did take alot of effort, and still is with all the new suggestions :P
Btw this guide really helped me out while making the game http://somesingawful.com/flea/letsplay/ffmq/part1/. The comments where especially useful on improving storyline elements compared to the original.
