Ah hey thanks! When ever I try to do digital painting, it ends up with a real painting-like feel. I think it gives this project a nice feel, although I have troubles getting the same look to smaller pixel tilesets..

JosephSeraph, that looks really awesome, if you're doing a whole game in just one week, what are doing cutscenes like this then!!? That's madness! But if you can pull it off, that's impressive! I really like the style and sounds interesting (anything with yume nikki being mentioned, catches my interest)

Pleased to meet you!

Actually i don't recall this monopolo fiasco... <_< .. >_> so let's just say I was neutral. Might have been during my lesser activity period or something.

And lol, dunno about my wisdom and veteran leadership. I know nothing about these "new" engines like VX and VX ACE :D but I'm motivated for sure! I'll try to work with the project I have atm, but if it fails for some reason, I've been thinking about switching to 100% making graphics in future. We'll see. Thanks anyways! I feel welcome (:

Pleased to meet you!

Hey sure am! I want to get back to the scenes 8D
And thanks (:

Using Chance well in games

This is an interesting topic as the game I'm designing at the moment has a big role for chance. I'm making a game based on a sort-of-pen-n-paper-RPG I came up with few of my friends. In the game I threw a coin for every action and event happening. Guess wrong and things go horribly wrong, guess right and you get great rewards. This works well, because I never intended the game to be very long.

Now trying to translate this to a video game is difficult because I'm worried it's going to get frustrating fast, but at the same time I wish to keep the ruthless rules intact. Also as the game got further my own sympathy played a role as I didn't want to kill off characters with just a toss of a coin anymore seeing as people invested few hours into them. How to do this in video game format?

One way I figured to work by this, is that I give enough warnings to the player in the way of enemy patterns, enviromental tips, etc. If he/she still wants to go through, it's going to be 50-50 chances.

One bad example for this topic would be Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. I think it's close to unplayable these days without some mods because the chance of an attack actually hitting the enemy is really low. The combat gets really tedious fast.

Luchino, what's wrong with the palm trees? They looks just fine to me. Nice screens otherwise too!

octopaca, I think that green room looks maybe too plain? Although I get a feeling it's supposed to be like that, which is fine I guess. The other screen with those drawings on walls looks more intriguing.

EDIT: oh sht, top of the page!? I guess I'm gonna release first shots of my project in that case (:

Just the first graphic tests. This is very much WIP

I had to hide the other screenshot because it's some morbid stuff, watch at your own risk, just make sure you're alone in the room D:

Pleased to meet you!

Let's get something corrected; I actually like orange the fruit but there is something ..wrong in associating myself with the fruit. as an item of eating purposes I like it.

I used to go by the name Orange00 in gamingw I think (I used it here too for a short time), but I was always a small fry and more of a lurker apart from my periodic activity spurs. I do recognize some names though from those days. kentona for example sounds awfully familiar (in a positive way, no idea why I used "awful" there)

oh and it fills me with great warmth seeing you people use ~ instead of cold and systematic -

japanese pronunciation is great addition also ;)

Pleased to meet you!

I sure am glad. You see orange- got multiple meanings. It can either symbolize the colour orange (which i greatly prefer) or the fruit orange (which i consider more of an insult), also it's pretty close to orangutan (which isn't all that cool either sadly, so let's just stick to the colour)

RMN is pretty familiar place and I like it here.

Pleased to meet you!

Hello!
You can call me orange-, although I would have preferred orange~, but you know, life is full of limitations, just like RMN seems to have some (:

So anyways, I'm a long time rpg maker user, dating back to Don Miguel's board with rm2k. I migrated to gamingw and eventually came here. I've been passive for few years now, but I'm trying to get back to things now with a project on the way already.

I like japanese stuff and I also like drawing. In graphics lies my biggest weakness, as I always tend to concentrate on those and never do any coding and actual game making.

I'm pleased to meet you!
